Also, I'm just trying to figure out how to shoot again....when you shoot how much of an 'arc' are u supposed to make...and I'm still trying to figure out how to play good defence...or wat is good D???

I dunno how I got into it really. I played maybe once in my homeland. Soccer was the sport back then. When I got here I played a few times at the "Language Centre" where I learned English, then at primary school, and pretty soon I had one of those little plastic hoops in the house and a mini basket outside that you hang up on a fence or whatever and I was hooked. First full NBA season I followed was 93/94. The kids at school told me about Michael Jordan and the NBA. I was an addict, plastic hoop in the house, hoop in the backyard, always played at school after I started, basketball video games, magazines, and anything that was on tv. Couldn't get enough. (y)

In about the year of 95 I would guess (grade 4) I started to play, but I have no idee really of how I first started.
Anyway if it wasen't for my bigbrother I wouldn't probably play ball, or at least I would start much later.

My father got us a small shitty basket to play with in our cold attic, we played quite often there against eachother. It was great, we not only played against eachother but also with eachother, we pretended to be different NBA teams, like Atlanta Hawkswith Steve Smith, Mutombo and Mookie Blaylock.
I remember that it took a while before I could dunk, I evan had problem to do proper layups. My bro dunked like hell all the time, and I couldn't do shit, that sucked. Anyway I got later big enough to also do slams, and today, weee, I can dunk better than my bro ever could :P .

I got curious to the nba the same time Live '95 came out, and then after watching a couple of "NBA action" show, I got hooked.

Magic Johnson visited Poland back in 1995, and suddenly there was Lakers basketball all over the tv. I really really enjoyed watching those basketball games, even if I never played the sport. The Lakers became my favorite team back then, and I decided to play ball myself with my brother on some High School courts. I remember we were pretending to be players, I always picked Eddie Jones and Cedric Ceballos back then, while he chose Karl Malone. I always dreamed of the abbility to dunk, and that dream came true at age of 14 :P

uhhhhh, thanks osf?

I was flipping throught he channels one Saturday morning in grade 2 (1996) looking for some cartoons and I saw basketball on TV, I'd never seen it before so I asked my mom about it. She said it was basketball and told me a few of the basics (you dribble, pass, try to get the ball in the hoop, can't travel, the kind of rules that a kid in grade 2 would understand.) and I was hooked from there.

For me, it just sort of happened when basketball became more popular in Australia. I can't really say how, when or why; but whenever it was and however it happened, I remain a dedicated fan. :)

My first taste of the NBA hit me when i was about 1994-ish, i was about 6, 7 or 8 or somethin. I had a next door neighbour who was older than me and was heaps into basketball, we used to play together on those little plastic hoops. i thought he was really cool. and i wanted to be like him. So i played basketball a lot, got a huuuuuuge collection of basetball cards and i loved it. (Y) then about a year later i made another local friend who was about 4 years older than me and he had NBA Jam on SNES. (Y) I was always Charlotte and Suns because their colours were purdy. :D My fav players back then were Glen Rice, Shawn Kemp, Michael Jordan (of course), Shaq, Charles Barkley etc. Yep i loved the NBA and i knew shit all about it, never saw it on TV. Then for about 4 years i didn't really do much with basketball. Just played at school with mates. Anyway when i was 10 or 11 i got really good, always beating my friends and my teacher asked me to play in her son's team. So i started playing bball in an organised league. (Y)(Y) And i'm still playing with that Kid to this day. (Y)

Then I really got into the NBA in 2001. i got a PC demo disc from a mate that had a demo of NBA Live 2001 on it. I looooved it. So i got the full game for my birthday. (my first live evarrr) and i looooved it so much, i knew every player on every team off by heart! All from this game, No TV or anything. My PC got connected to the net for the first time in 2002 and one of the first things i did was go play live01 online. i chatted to this guy who reccomended NLSC to me.

That was when i first came to NLSC! as soon as i got there i downloaded an updated roster (i couldnt believe that was possible! haha) and i joined the forums straight away. Ben was a real asshole to me as a n00b. :P Tales was a champ.

Anyway that's how i found out it was a boyle and not a pimple... wait... no that's how i fell in love with NBA. :)

This was completly responsible for bringing Basketball into my life, long time ago now!! It probably saved my life as well, i was young, stupid and hanging around with the wrong crowd. I was stealing everything, taking drugs all the time, on my way to the lock up. When i started playing ball i sorted myself out. Damn i miss playing

well hasnt this board been nostalgic recently

well, i got hooked when i first arrived in Australia 13yrs ago, everyone was playing and watching and raving about some dude named Michael Jordan. So then i got hooked and when i went back to Poland they had 1 game a week + "NBA Action" and the best ever bball mag called "Magic Basketball" which i used to buy all the time. I had cable which showed 2,3 games a week as well, that was heaven for me. I was a bit of a Bulls fan cos of MJ but when Grant Hill arrived on the scene i like him and started to follow the Detroit Pistons and have ever since. But i really loved NBA and still do and i will never be able to get enough of it........literally.

As a kid i had a plastic hoop but on the first shot that snapped, and then the backboard did too so my dad made me a metal version of that, which i still have, and i could dunk it and hang off it and it wouldn't snap. (i was like 28kg's then though). Now i have a proper Bball ring and area to play on.

I LOVE THIS GAME

Anyone heard of "Slam Dunk"? It's a really excellent basketball comic series that was all the rage some years ago in Japan. Well, I was living in Japan some years ago when Slam Dunk was all the rage. Japan has a really prominent comics culture so my friends (inspired by the comic) were playing basketball every lunch and I decided to join in even though I wasn't really familiar with Slam Dunk at the time. That was how I started but I never really improved because obviously, the level of basketball in a elementary school in Japan isn't of the highest quality. My career (career?) really took off when I came to Canada and got into community leagues, school teams, etc. Yeah, I love basketball. However, my skill level haven't been able to keep up with other people in my highly sports-competitive school (we're one of the top-ranked teams in BC) so I'm not in the senior team this year. Maybe next year, though... :?:

I think it had to be the fifth time around that I saw Space Jam...

Just kidding, I think it was 95-96. My neighbors got a basketball hoop and I think I used it more than them. Then I got really into the NBA Finals. Af first my favorite player was Shawn Kemp but I was young and fickle, and that would change to Gary Payton. It hasn't changed since....

Well, it first happened about 6 years ago. I played little league bball for the first time ever. I sucked! I'd hit the left side of the backboard(and nothing else) when I'd shoot freethrows. I had fun though. My coach was like 20 or something and he could dunk, so in practice when we'd warm up we'd ask him to dunk and stuff.

Anyway like 2 years later (I improved hella lot) I focused most on rebounding. I'm black so I could out jump most of the whie kids. The refs said I was one of the best rebounders he'd ever seen. We lost all our games that year (Y) but at least I learned how to shoot. (I scord a total of 4 pts that year  )

Then in my last year of little league my dad coached. I didnt think we'd be that good, but we won the championship. There was this kid on my team who could(and still can) shoot lights out! You had to put a hand in his face to stop him, even though he could still score on you.

I started following the NBA the last year MJ was a Bull. I wanted the Jazz to win. Then, when MJ hit that buzzer beater I was mad and went to my room and cried.. Then I payed even more attention when the Knicks played the Spurs. I had to cheer for the knicks. I was pissed, when (I think) Mario Elie nailed an Off-Balance 3 while falling out of bounds.

When Live 99 came out my dad got a demo. I played it constantly. It was only one half, but I loved it. Later I got a dreamcast and like 20 games! NBA 2k1 was one of them. I played that all of the time. Most of my knowledge came from itl. I remember baron davis being rated a 73 or 79 or something. I'd pick the Raptors and get him all of the time. He'd turn into a star in like 2 years.

I've loved basketball for as long as I can remember. I can't remember not knowing who MJ was. I watched all of the games of the Finals every year, I was a Jordan fan (my favorite players were Grant Hill and Shawn Kemp, but I told everyone it was MJ.) I mostly just watched the playoffs. In 2000 or 2001 or something I became obsessed with the NBA, I spent hours every day on NBA.com or ESPN.com. And now, I still do.

I remember this little yellow basketball hoop I got when I was 3, it only could go up to about 8 feet. I could dunk on about 4 or 5 feet when I was 6. I had a lot of fun having mini dunk contests with my friends. My favorite dunk to do was the tommahawk. I was a Julius Erving fan, even though he was retired before I was born. I had a Dennis Rodman jersey, lol.

I had NBA on NBC 98, and some 1997 Konami NBA game for N64. I finished seasons with the Sixers and the Hornets. Those were my only NBA games until 2002, when I bought NBA Courtside 2002 for Gamecube. Then I got Live 03 and then Live 04.

When I was 5, I was the best baller in kindergarden (what an accomplishment.) I could cross anyone up, and could hit a three on anyone--wait, maybe that's my imagination.
