how do you stop the pro hop and big guy layup

Wed Jan 21, 2004 5:50 am

The first - mostly the CPU guy takes the ball in the corner, i press and hold take charge, he makes a dribble, a giaaant hop and makes the layup. My guy is just in the posision of taking charge and sliding from the corner right under the basket.
The 2nd - cpu's C or PF gets the ball in the post, instantly turns around and makes a technically perfect lay up from one foot, and the man is for instance Ilgauskas or Dampier and it looks just silly. As the defender i'm holding the take charge button and my man slides a bit and then falls. The layup isn't even adjusted (when i'm doing a layup defended it's always this hopeless falling-over shot which goes in once in 10 times.
How do you deal with such ultra unrealistic plays ?

Sorry for my english, could someone tell me how do you call it in english when a baller stops dribbling, takes 2 steps and jumps from one leg ?
In polish it's called 'dwutakt' which translated would be something like 'two tact' or '2 step'.

Around the basket, raising your arms (holding up on the right analog stick) or jumping to contest the shot is the best way to play defense. If you want to take a charge, I've also found that raising your arms is more effective than using the Take Charge button.

Good call, Andrew. I've found (online at least) that "take charge" is pretty useless against star players (heh, just like the real NBA). How many times have I been clearly out of the circle and established only to be run over by TMac or one of his ilk. Heck, Steve Francis has dunked over some of my big guys taking a charge. I know the guy's got mad hops, but come on people! :D

I'll try the "arms-up" some more.

A propos, how the heck do you stop the dribble penetration of the big stars? It seems like anyone who can wiggle the Freestyle controls fast enough can get to the hole for an easy dunk. OK, maybe I just stink, but any tips on not stinking?

BTW, how fun is it to take a charge when someone (online) tries to post-up at the three point line with a little PG? :) Good as a steal... (I learned the hard way so I'm allowed to enjoy this little form of torture)

When big men get in the post, I have my gaurd come doube him up and try to have my forward check the player my gaurd is supposed to check or any immediate 3 point threat. When some fool tries to used the po hop on me, I just hold my hands up and the player that is prohopping will do some adjusted shot under the rim and brick.

i find the easiest way to stop the pro hop or drive into the paint is to get one of your players and plant him in the line but dont hold the take charge button just make sure he stays in the lane with his hands up and you should b able to screw over the cpu. Well thats one way i do it. If i cant get a player in the lane i just get some to try swat the ball out as the cpu player goes up for a jam or lay up. most of the tme you can swat the ball away.
