Lawrence Frank fired

Story

Management has made the decision to fire Frank, a move that will be carried out when the team returns to New Jersey after Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the sources said. Even if the Nets beat the Lakers, Frank is still expected to be fired.

Seems kind of pointless to wait another game, especially if the highly unlikely event of getting the first win of the season against the Lakers won't change anything.

Saw this coming, I'm now actually rooting for the Nets to break the NBA record for most consecutive losses even though that maybe too mean.

Just a matter or time until it happened. The upcoming schedule for the Nets allows them to break the record. :P

It's official.

Frank will not coach against the Lakers on Sunday night, when the Nets will have a chance to tie an NBA record with a 17th straight loss to start the season. New Jersey assistant Tom Barrise will coach Sunday instead.

Yahoo! Sports first reported early Sunday that Nets president Rod Thorn had made the decision to fire Frank. Thorn was expected to meet with owner Bruce Ratner on Sunday to inform him that he would replace Frank on Monday, but sped up the process after news of Frank’s imminent dismissal became public.

Makes sense. If his fate was decided, no point delaying the inevitable.

Wondering who will they hire.

EDIT: They should bring in Byron Scott,it wouldn't be a bad move.
He Likes to develop young guys, and gives good playing time to them.

I have a gut feeling that New Jersey beats the Lakers tonight. Can't say I'm surprised by the firing. I wonder if Avery Johnson will ever get another coaching job.

I read somewhere that they want Kiki Vandeweghe as the new coach... they'd be the Golden State Warriors of the East coast if that happened.

That will only happen if Kiki plays for the Nets.

It was about time :P Maybe a Scott comeback or Avery Johnson as Lamrock said, that would be nice.

Avery Johnson is a good coach..... but will anyone really want to step in and take over this team? Im guessing they will go with an interm coach until after the regular season.... then make a push for a good coach before free agency. A lot of good FA's next year... they will need a good coach to help bring one of them to Jersey. Dwayne Wade Maybe? Cross City Rival for Lebron in NY?

I also highly doubt whoever ends up as the interim coach will be the permanent replacement beyond the season, unless they do a really impressive job. Otherwise, we can safely assume they'll pursue someone like Avery Johnson or another high profile coach when the season is through.

It was only a matter of time, the Nets have had a horrible start to the season and it's really only natural that the Net's try and look like they're doing something about it by replacing the coach. I agree with Modifly, I want to see history in the making and watch the Net's claim the "worst start to an NBA season" crown.

Wasn't Avery Johnson the same guy that lobbied the Mavs to trade Devin Harris away for Jason Kidd? He isn't too keen on playing young guys either and I think most of the Nets talent is probably under the age of 23.

I thought Mark Cuban was the one who pushed for the Kidd trade to happen. Harris was also starting for Johnson in Dallas and playing over 30 minutes per game his last season and a half there. As for Johnson not playing young players, where do you get that from? There weren't that many young players on those Mavericks teams that should've been playing more than they did, no one was being held back.

I've also read the reports that Kiki will get the job if he wants it. Well, 0-17... I wonder if it will be 0-18 after the next one.

Speaking of Harris, I thought he was going to save them from all these loss, but they even eneded up losing against the Kings by blowout, probably it was their only decent shot to get out of this streak for awhile.

Dallas is up next, so chances are they'll be in the record books by themselves with 18 losses to open the season. In an odd kind of way, I think there's some added pressure on their opponents now as I'm sure no one is keen to be the Nets' first victory this season. Forget teams challenging 72-10 this year, the Nets could very realistically challenge 9-73 the way they're playing.

That'll probably be the final insult, missing out on the top pick even with the worst record and hence best odds of getting it.

If it weren't for such occurrences, you wouldn't have Derrick Rose. :)

It seems like it was both Cuban and Johnson who decided on that. I don't really know where I got the younger players thing lol, that must have been something I read.

Fair enough, I thought it was more Cuban pushing for the deal as Harris was starting for Johnson over Jason Terry but I guess he was at least open to bringing Kidd in.
