LeBron to change no. in honor of Jordan

Basically, LeBron said that nobody in the NBA should wear no.23 to honor Michael Jordan. That's why he'll stop wearing no.23 starting next season. He also said that he's likely to switch to no.6, which is the number he wears when not playing in the NBA, for instance the Olympic.

Thoughts?

heard this on ESPN this morning. shocked by the IMO stupidity. everyone wears it in tribute to MJ yet you arent supposed to wear it to honor him.
Opinions are my own.

Nice gesture I suppose, but unnecessary. I don't think there's any harm in wearing a number in honour of your favourite player growing up, it's a fitting tribute as it is.

And Chicago, where LeBron wouldn't be able to wear #23. Just throwing it out there. :shifty:

11 teams use the number 6 currently. If you are a fan of:
Denver (Arron Afflalo)
Milwaukee (Andrew Bogut)
New Orleans (Bobby Brown)
Miami (Mario Chalmers)
Charlotte (Tyson Chandler)
Portland (Juwan Howard)
New Jersey (Courtney Lee)
Washington (Mike MIller)
LA Lakers (Adam Morrison)
Dallas (Quinton Ross)
Detroit (Ben Wallace)

It would seem you are out of the lebron sweepstakes barring retirement/free agents.

Warning: heavy sarcasm in this post. Viewer discretion is advised.

He realises he won't be the best number 23 to play the game. If that was the case, number 6 doesn't seem right as I immediately think of Bill Russell & then Dr. J.

Not quite sure how he could possibly "realize" this.

I know Jordan is widely regarded as the GOAT, but even so, this is just disrespect to the other legends of the game. If this somehow became a rule, it would basically officially make the GOAT claim indisputable and discredit the play of the Mikan, Russell, West, blah blah blah. Chamberlain raped the league for years, but that doesn't mean everyone should stop wearing 13. Getting your number retired should be more than enough respect.
