Knicks re-sign David Lee

1 year deal for around $8 mil

Not a bad price, though I still see him walking next year when he's an unrestricted free agent. As such, Walsh's plan of pinning all the Knicks' hopes on getting LeBron, Bosh, Wade, Amar'e or whomever they can sign (and preferably a second noteworthy player, most likely) better work out or they'll be left with a thin roster and likely at least one overpaid third tier "name" when it's all said and done. I'm impressed how quickly Walsh has been able to shed bad contracts (and if he can't get rid of Curry, I'd call it borderline genius) and I admire his guts and confidence in snagging a marquee player in 2010 but without a Plan B, there could be a spectacular crash and burn.

That's not to say they won't have any chance of keeping Lee and no doubt they'll try to do that regardless, but I imagine there'll be no shortage of suitors. I think Lee is definitely worth around $10-12 million a year which I believe is what he was asking for, there'll be a team that's willing to pay him that if the Knicks won't.

Supposedly, Curry lost 40 pounds. That's like throwing a chair off the deck of the Queen Mary.

Easier said than done. Few teams would be willing to take on a contract for around $11 mil per year that runs through 2011 when so many teams are positioning themselves to make a bid for the big names next year. Similarly, the teams that will be over the cap regardless probably won't have much interest either.
