Donatello is a character from Teenage Ninja Turtles. Donatello did you choose your name after that? Just asking..

Unsure if you've gone on your trip yet, but some of the things I did during the 14 hour plane ride was basically played some games/watched a movie or two on the laptop, slept for couple hours (though highly uncomfortable if you're flying economy), and caught some of the inflight movies. Also listened to the iPod for several hours as well. People around me on the plane were also either on their laptops, readings books, or sleeping.
Getting a portable game console like the DS would definately too help pass the time. Enjoy the trip.

Didn't you fuck off yet?
Hey Jing! What's up man? A 14 hour plane ride? Ugh, screw that. I can hardly stand short flights.

14 hours isn't too bad. It's the three straight 7-8 hour flights with two 2-3 hour stopovers & no layovers (from London to Brisbane) that hurt. No sleep, no legroom, no good. You get to a stage where you're too tired to watch movies, read, play games or sleep. Wish I'd had my Nintendo DS when I did those flights.

Sounds a bit like the flight to and from New York. Loved my time there even if it was brief, but those were a couple of brutal flights. Of course, sometimes the one hour flight to or from Brisbane seems to drag, though it beats the 12 hour drive.

I'm thinking about getting the HP Pavilion DV2-1140ED. It's 599 euros.
It's 1.6 Ghz, 2 GB ram (which I want to expand to 4 straight away), 320 GB HD and a 512MB video card (ATI Radeon 3410).
Click for specs.
It's 12.1 inches and the main uses will be watching TV Shows/Movies and general school stuff. No heavy duty graphics games, some 720p + 1080p movies/shows mostly.
Now my question to you more experienced folks is if the movies will play smooth without any lag and stuttering. It's 1.6 kg's too so quite lightweight, just what I'm aiming for.
Give me some input computer fellows.

It's not likely going to play 1080p stuff unless you have a program that uses the Radeon for playback. Battery power sucks, I read.

1080 not playing is not a problem, 720p playing would be nice though. (Most of my stuff is 720p, smaller filesize.)
I read that about the battery too, 4 cell...which is why I was going to e-mail HP and ask which battery is also use-able for the laptop. Taking an extra battery on board seems like a logical decision.

Grab pair of dumbells with you and do seated curls, then you don't miss your biceps workouts
Just kidding.
Interesting movies are the solution.

Exactly my thoughts. Maybe you should change your nickname now?
Good thing that there's no vinceair to start his religious crap all over again about this.

Thanks to Pdub for taking a look at that laptop for me.
I decided to get the HP Pavilion 3600 series laptop. (Click.)
It's a step above the other laptop I mentioned, 13.3 inch screen, 4 GB ram (expandable to 8), 2.0 Ghz processor, 320 GB HD, 512 MB dedicated graphics card (GeForce 9300M) and plays 720p + 1080p smoothly. It's pretty light too at just under 2 kg's.
It's also handy that an HDMI out and the little remote that gets stored in to the card slot is cool too. I have a 4 cell battery and bought an extra 6 cell one. Now I'm just loading up shows and movies.

Ask your HP dealer/support if they still use that same cheap thermal wax in the laptop's CPU, so you'll know why your laptop died on you for no apparent reason a few months from now.
Or if they do still continue to do shite with their laptops that
cause serious trouble like what
they solved and settled in the past

I never knew my HP laptop might have an issue like that. Anyways, I am extremely happy with my laptop as I have been using it for about year now. I had no problem at all, and it's usually always on, so I think those fails only happened to a few people. It's the heat I'm more concerned about, as it could get hot sometimes if you abuse CPU or video card. I grabbed antec notebook cooler and problem solved. By the way, I think that HP 3600 is a great laptop with a great spec.
