Former NBA player Rodney Rogers honoured

Paralyzed former Wake Forest and NBA player Rodney Rogers was honored before the Demon Deacons' football game against Elon.

Wearing a black Wake Forest jersey, the wheelchair-bound Rogers received a standing ovation as his career highlights were shown. Accompanied by former Wake basketball coach Dave Odom, Rogers was mobbed by the players as they ran onto the field.

The 38-year-old Rogers injured his spinal cord riding a dirt bike in November 2008 and is a quadriplegic. It was his first public appearance at Wake Forest since the accident.

I honestly don't remember reading about that last year, seems like someone would've posted it. I'm sorry to hear it, though it goes to show why NBA teams are adamant about clauses in players' contracts prohibiting them from riding motorcycles and the like, what with all the money that's invested in them.

Perhaps his finest moment in the NBA:

Wow I had no idea he was paralyzed  he was an old favourite of mine in NBA Live/2K. What a shame, he once shot 43% from three which is pretty impressive for a power forward. I remember the 9 points in 9 seconds as well, Tonny Jensen did something similar here in the NBL playing for Canberra  maybe not quite as impressive.

Yeah I'm not sure how we missed that. It's not as though the trials and tribulations of retired athletes go unreported. :?

I read about his unfortunate accident a while back on another basketball forum. Shame, because he sounds like a top-notch person. Good to see him honored by his alma-mater.

I remember this guy when he was still in New Jersey Nets he was more of a shooter than a banger inside the paint considering he has a huge body

The moment I heard about his injury, I was saddened by it. It's good to know that his accomplishment is being acknowledge by people.
