Top 10 NBA "Feel-Good" Moments 2000-2009

Postby Andrew on Thu Sep 17, 2009 10:34 am

Yeah, that one is kind of off-the-wall. Article

1. Maurice Cheeks helps Natalie Gilbert sing the National Anthem
2. Zo returns
3. Charles Barkley races Dick Bavetta
4. Shaq and Kobe reconcile
5. Spurs' Hack-a-Shaq prank on Shaq, Poppovich's reaction
6. Warriors upset Mavericks in 2007
7. Timberwolves honour George Mikan in 2001
8. The dunk contest returns
9. Grant Hill plays 82 games
10. Mike D'Antoni hired by Knicks

Well, what can you say about such a list? A lot of them don't really stand out as "feel-good" moments to me (particularly number ten) but I did enjoy seeing Zo make a somewhat successful comeback and win a championship with Miami in 2006. Likewise, I thought it was good to see Grant Hill resurrect his career, first with the token All-Star appearance in 2005 and then remaining relatively healthy in Phoenix, leading up to appearing in all 82 games last season; he's another one who had a tough break. I didn't see the Mikan tribute and didn't remember it until reading about it but it certainly was an appropriate gesture.

The reaction I have to this list is:

At least he got number one right. Everything else should be numbered 5 or lower. I like the Hack-a-Shaq prank too. I don't feel "good" about anything else on the list. Especially the fake Shaq/Kobe thing, the Warriors, or Mike D'Antoni.

Yeah, I like #1. First time I've seen it. Very heart-warming. The hack-a-shaq thing I like but not exactly feel-good. I guess the Grant Hill and Zo comebacks count but the others are quite questionable.

I hadn't seen number 1 before, so was good to see it (Y)

The Grant Hill return to health was nice

Kevin Garnett winning a title last year & his reaction was a pretty feel good moment

I'd put Nash's first season back with Suns as feel good moment for the league

Zo and Grant Hill stand out. And the number 1, hadn't seen that before.

I remember how Zo blocked 5 shots in game 6 of the Finals off the bench in like 10-15 minutes.

Lebron and Shaq dance-off should be on the list. :P

Yeah I enjoyed that as well. After sticking it out with Minnesota all those years, it was nice to see it all come together for him with the 2008 championship.

My only feel good moments were the Rocket's 22 games winning streak and them getting out of the first round for the first time in twelve years.

Wade winning it all and becoming MVP could be on top of that list, otherwise very enjoyable list. :)

How was the biggest flop-fest of all-time something to celebrate? I mean, how could you watch that series and honestly think that the Mavs were treated fairly?

I have already erased that series from my memory. It was disgraceful as you well know. As far as I'm concerned, that Finals may as well not have happened.

I enjoyed the rarity of the series, having two first time finalists and a first time champion. Can't argue that there weren't some questionable calls though, to put it mildly.

Allen Iverson passing on family values:

A.I.: son, what you doing there?
A.I.'s son: practicing my math for my test tommorow
A.I: practice? practice? we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test - practice. we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test, not the test - practice.
