Top 10 Worst Teams 2000-2009

Postby Andrew on Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:03 am

Original article.

1. 1999/2000 Clippers
2. 2004/2005 Hawks
3. 2000/2001 Bulls
4 .2002/2003 Cavaliers
5. 2008/2009 Kings
6. 2007/2008 Supersonics
7. 2007/2008 Heat
8. 2002/2003 Nuggets
9. 2004/2005 Hornets
10. 2007/2008 Knicks

I can't really disagree with any of those selections. I'm sure there's others that could get the nod, but those were some sorry teams.

My personal opinion would be SO raptors after Vince left. They will get in playoffs in 2018/2019 season  Team with bad luck.

Totally agree with this list. I remember the Nuggets team well, as it was the lowest ranked team in Live 2003. :P

They made the playoffs in 2007 and 2008.

The Raptors team that let Kobe drop 81 points... Yeah you can say that Kobe was on his A-Game that night, but I can't recall any team that rotated as terribly as that Raptors lineup. Oh well, that's Sam Mitchell for you.

Everything was terrible about that team and they only won 20 something games that year. You know you're fucked if you have Mike James dropping nearly 20 a game for your team.

I'll do it similar to my "top non-championship" list. Remember that before 2005 there were only 29 teams.

1. 2000 Los Angeles Clippers
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200015-6713-6997.8 (28th)110.1 (29th)Derek Anderson (16.9/4.0/3.4, 3.4)Michael Olowokandi (9.8/8.2/0.5, -0.8)-10.73 (29th)
200919-6318-64102.3 (30th)111.7 (27th)Marcus Camby (10.3/11.1/2.0, 5.2)Baron Davis (14.9/3.7/7.7, 0.6)-8.46 (29th)
200823-5921-61101.2 (28th)109.1 (19th)Corey Maggette (22.1/5.6/2.7, 6.9)Quinton Ross (4.1/2.3/1.2, 0.7)-6.56 (27th)

2. 2005 Atlanta Hawks
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200513-6916-66100.6 (29th)111.1 (29th)Josh Childress (10.1/6.0/1.9, 4.6)Boris Diaw (4.8/2.6/2.3, 0.1)-9.62 (30th)
Atlanta's easily the worst team of the decade, but only once have they only been truly terrible. The rest of the early part of the decade are a bunch of 26th place finishes.

3. 2003 Cleveland Cavaliers
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200317-6516-6696.5 (28th)106.7 (24th)Carlos Boozer (10.0/7.5/1.3, 6.1)Darius Miles (9.2/5.4/2.6, -1.4)-9.58 (29th)
This team had two near all-star caliber players (Boozer and Ilgauskas) who both played 81 games and 2000+ minutes. Ricky Davis also played alright. The team also had Miles, DeSagana Diop (36% shooting), Milt Palacio (47%), DeJaun Wagner (47%), Tyrone Hill (47%), Chris Mihm (46%), and Bimbo Coles (38%) all log 500+ minutes. Some like Miles and Palacio played as many minutes as Boozer.

4. 2000-2002 Chicago Bulls
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200017-6515-6794.2 (29th)104.6 (15th)Elton Brand (20.1/10.0/1.9, 7.2)Randy Brown (6.4/2.4/3.4, -0.8)-9.23 (28th)
200115-6716-6697.2 (29th)107.3 (27th)Elton Brand (20.1/10.1/3.2, 6.0)Jamal Crawford (4.6/1.5/2.3, -0.9)-9.09 (29th)
200221-6118-6498.2 (28th)107.6 (24th)Fred Hoiberg (4.4/2.7/1.7, 2.7)Charles Oakley (3.8/6.0/2.0, -0.5)-8.52 (29th)
200423-5923-5996.6 (29th)103.4 (16th)Kirk Hinrich/Jamal CrawfordKendall Gill (9.6/3.4/1.6, 0.4)-6.69 (29th)
Okay, so Hoiberg wasn't the Bulls actual most valuable player that year, Brad Miller (12.7/8.4/2.1, 4.4) was and Ron Mercer was the worst (16.8/3.9/3.0, -1.1) but Miller was traded at mid-season. Yes, the Bulls traded the two highest PER players on the team at the time for the right to pay Jalen Rose the maximum.

For what it's worth, these teams are so bad you could literally pick multiple LVP's. In 2000 you've also got Dickey Simpkins, Will Perdue, Chris Carr, Corey Benjamin all playing major minutes with ORtg's below 90. In 2001 you also have Mracus Fizer, Benjamin, Bryce Drew and Dragant Tarlac to choose from. Oh, and 259 minutes of something called a Dalibor Bagaric that shoots 30%, has a PER of 3.3 and ORtg of 65.

5. 2006 Portland Trail Blazers
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200621-6116-66101.1 (30th)111.9 (28th)Steve Blake (8.2/2.1/4.5, 2.7)Darius Miles (14.0/4.6/1.8, -1.0)-8.91 (30th)
How did this team get overlooked? Oh, look, a familiar friend as our LVP.

6. 2009 Sacramento Kings
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200917-6519-63105.5 (25th)114.7 (30th)Kevin Martin (24.6/3.6/2.7, 4.9)Donte Greene (3.8/1.6/0.5, -1.1)-8.59 (30th)
Okay, so Donte Greene didn't play 1000+ minutes (Hawes is next) but he was just so bad last season I had to include him.

7. 2008 Miami Heat
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200815-6718-64100.5 (29th)110.0 (26th)Dwyane Wade (24.6/4.2/6.9, 3.2)Daequan Cook (8.9/3.1/1.3, -0.4)-8.53 (30th)

8. 2001 Golden State Warriors
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200117-6517-6597.8 (28th)107.4 (28th)Antawn Jamison (24.9/8.7/2.0, 6.9)Erick Dampier (7.4/5.8/1.4, -0.5)-8.11 (28th)
200019-6320-6299.8 (27th)108.4 (27th)Donyell Marshall (14.2/10.0/2.6, 3.9)John Starks/Larry Hughes-7.62 (27th)

9. 2008 Seattle SuperSonics
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200820-6219-63100.5 (29th)109.5 (22nd)Nick Collison (9.8/9.4/1.4, 4.7)Jeff Green (10.5/4.7/1.5, 0.2)-8.04 (29th)

10. 2003 Denver Nuggets
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200317-6517-6592.2 (29th)101.3 (6th)Juwan Howard (18.4/7.6/3.0, 6.0)Nikoloz Tskitishvili (3.9/2.2/1.1, -1.0)-7.41 (28th)
"Anyone who played in the backcourt" also would have been acceptible for LVP. (Junior Harrington, Vincent Yarbrough, Chris Whitney, Rodney White, Shammond Williams, Kenny Satterfield, your various 2003 Denver Nuggets backcourt starters!)

And a couple honorable mentions:
2004 Orlando Magic
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200421-6122-60102.7 (13th)110.4 (29th)Tracy McGrady (28.0/6.0/5.5, 8.5)Britton Johnsen (2.1/2.3/0.6, -0.6)-7.25 (29th)
Johnsen didn't play anywhere near enough minutes, but for some insane reason was the opening day starter, stayed there for the first three games. Then he suddenly came back in this game late in the season which is now a top favorite boxscore.

2006 New York Knicks
Yr.W-LPythagOffDef"MVP""LVP"SRS
200623-5924-58104.0 (23rd)111.0 (26th)Jamal Crawford (14.3/3.1/3.8, 4.5)Maurice Taylor (6.3/3.4/0.8, -0.5)-6.30 (29th)
42 seperate starting lineups.

Some others pretty bad teams include: 2009, 2001 and 2004 Washington Wizards, 2008 Milwaukee Bucks, 2002 Memphis Grizzlies, 2008 Knicks, 2005 New Orleans Hornets, 2008 Minnesota Timberwolves and 2005 Charlotte Bobcats.

Knicks have been a joke the past eight years. We are officially the LA Clippers East.
