really really fast game?

This morning I had a very funny experience. I usually play at game speed 55, which is a not too fast setting.
But when I started the game, the players whirled around the screen as if the game speed was set to 300. It was extremely fast. I then readjusted the game speed to 20, and then it would feel similar to 55 in my usual games.

I tried rebooting the comp, same problem. *shrug*

Ideas?

Well believe it or not. I actually had to turn the puter OFF. No power.

I don't know why this would happen, but it seems like the computer hypers totally ocasionally. Funky.
