Jaycee Dugard Kidnapping

I'm guessing at least a few people have seen this in the news in the last couple of days. For those who haven't, Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 when she was 11 and has been kept as a sex slave for the past 18 years before recently escaping and turning in her alleged kidnappers and captors, Phillip and Nancy Garrido. An 11-year-old California girl kidnapped in 1991 while waiting for a school bus has been found alive, and a convicted sex offender is accused of raping and fathering two children with her while he and his wife held her captive in their backyard.

Despite the shocking revelations, the discovery of Jaycee Lee Dugard brought sudden relief to her family 18 years after their young girl disappeared.

Dugard had been kept with the two girls, ages 11 and 15, in a series of tents and sheds hidden behind the Antioch, Calif., home of Phillip and Nancy Garrido, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday at a news conference. The couple has been arrested on several charges stemming from the discovery.

It really is an appalling story. The Garridos have pled not guilty and Phillip has even alluded to this being a heartwarming story, which sickens me. Personally, I hope they're both locked up for life.

I think there was a very similar case a few years back in Germany. That shit is so crazy, you could not even make it up.

I hope they're locked up for life too. Even if she is found alive and safe, she could be suffering from Stockholm syndrome, not to mention countless other trauma issues. I wouldn't be surprised if she's suffering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder. She's going to be in counselling for life, so really, not good news at all since the rest of her life will be a struggle for "normalcy."

Absolutely, from what I've read that's something she's already dealing with and as you said, will no doubt continue to deal with for life. Hopefully the Garridos will never be able to harm her or anyone else again.

Awful, awful people. They definitely deserve multiple life sentences.

I think the biggest concern is if she won't harm herself or her kids. Her kids will be screwed up too, unfortunately. Nothing's worse than trauma when you're young because it carries with you as a permanent scar for the rest of your life.

I agree, though hopefully she will get the help she needs and brighter days are ahead for her and the kids. If the Garridos walk free or are able to exploit some kind of ridiculous loophole however, it will be - in the words of the late, great Gorilla Monsoon - a miscarriage of justice.
