Which zone is most effective against players driving to the rim?
I've tried 2-3 zone and 1-3-1 zone and both times, the offense can walk right into the paint for a dunk.....
Also, what ways have you guys found to force the offense to shoot? (Using what defensive set i mean) currently, the only way I can get them to shoot and not drive is to leave them totally open purposely

I just play simple man2man defense.

fullcourt/halfcourt press,
and double team all their go to guys as soon as they touch the ball.

Like Jowe, I prefer to use the halfcourt press, double teaming if they feed the post. I also prefer to control my big men on defense, so that I can better react to opponents driving into the paint.

I guess I should be putting high pressure and double teaming the other team's best scorer. They usually kill me. Especially Ray Allen.

Andrew, I also like to control the big men to prevent opponents driving to the paint, but mostly I end up with blocks, meaning a huge number of blocks thus having an unrealistic game.... .

I control either a big man or the PG, for the most part, whether I'm using man D or a 2-3 zone. The 2-3 seems to work pretty well against human opponents online as a change of pace. I like to mix-up my D to keep the opponent off-balance. For example, if the game is tight or I am behind at the start of the 4th, I'll switch from the man D I've been using the whole game to a 2-3 zone to get some easy stops.

Not half-court man-to-man I switched it to the regular one. Players seem to the basket before worrying about their man more and I find it stops fast breaks.

Zones piss me off.

Using Half-Court and double team on whoever is dangerous. Works great sometimes. Today I managed to stop Phoenix at just 60 points.

and yea, full court press and doubling the point guard once he gets the ball is very effective, but i find that rather cheap , u have to time it right though, otherwise he will just pass it to an open teamate and he'll just drive for a dunk or layup.

Well, i THOUGHT i was playing good defense, controlling Ray Allen all the time and having him double team the go-to guys....then Quentin Richardson scored 49 points on me today....so much for my confidence

I think best defense is man2man with doubling the big man on the post when he took the ball with the nearest guard, not to catch the ball, but 4 prevent him to play in the low post.
It works good, I think, but not too much online: some players in post shoot just when they took ball, and u don't have the time 2 double them.

i'm just using 2-3 zone / man 2 man .... depends on the line-up the opponent is using .... if he has 3 point shooters, i'll use more man 2 man .... in 2-3 zone, i'll just use a shotblocker that goes in and out the paint so he will not be called for a violation, and i challenge every jump shot my opponent makes ....

i also use full court press that's why i'm averaging about 11 steals in a gme ....

I use 1-3-1 and 2-3 shifting zone they work good.

to completely shut down the offense in the paint:use the box-1.the only prob is that this often leaves some perks for an open three.
i like running a full-court press then switching between box-1 or 3-2 shifting zone after the ball has reached the halfcourt line...double teaming the point guard and double teaming the big men on the posts once they get the ball

Double team everyone. Works for me. Keeps the scores realistic. Really, it's not as crazy as you think. You will give up some threes, but for the most part, it will work. Anyway, many times, by the time your second defender reaches the offensive guy, he's already passed it, so it doesn't really act as helter skelter as you might think. Otherwise, the computer will just take you off the dribble all night.

Well, you can prevent them from driving, just "push" them, as in moving your player towards the player with the ball so that he bounces off you
