It's pointless to argue anymore. You drink health wrecking coke i drink water and green tea. That's it. (Y)
You think that those products are fine then let it be. I think they suck, and that's it.

I don't drink cola.

I was questioning your claims and your continued lack of sources. You declared a "fact" and then never supported it. It wasn't a difference of opinion. You made up some crap, a number of people asked you to support it and instead of providing any support you attacked the supposed motives of anyone who found anything that ran against your beliefs.

a key lapse of logic in this thread...Since when is the majority correct? 90 countries saying it doesnt make it true.
Aspartame being 'safe' (in small doses) also doesnt mean its healthy..it just means it won't make your body crap out on you after 1 dosage.
Also: over long term use aspartame can build up toxicity in your body. But we're talking years and years of drinking it. Nothing in any soda is healthy. They are truly effin delicious to me though so i will drink them until its a choice between soda and death.

Well, if you're ascribing that view to me that'd be a lapse of logic. vinceair made a bunch of claims, shadowgrin made counterclaims with sources. vinceair has yet to provide any sources for his conclusions. His only counterargument seems to be that anyone who disagrees with him is paid off by BIG SWEETNER.

Especially since the only sources I could find were homeopathy lunatics, people ascribing suddenly paying attention to their diet and health management entirely to cutting out soda, cultural warriors, or people trying to sell me their book who sound a lot like Kevin Trudeau.

In this case the majority are saying "at normal levels, aspartame is fine, but you're it injecting it in massive doses daily you might have a problem" and the minority says "THEY'RE LIARS PAID OFF BY BIG SWEETNER AND WANT TO KILL US WITH POISONS! AND I CAN PROVE IT BY MAKING MORE CLAIMS!" That could be true, but that doesn't refute what they're saying just impugns their motives.
Aspartame being 'safe' (in small doses) also doesnt mean its healthy..it just means it won't make your body crap out on you after 1 dosage.

Nobody said it was healthy. But, what's the dosage where the presence of aspartame becomes toxic and destabilizing? Nobody seems to have the answer.
Also: over long term use aspartame can build up toxicity in your body.

I don't think you can "build up toxicity" but again, where's the sources?

A major problem is that you'd need a longitudinal survey, not a measure at death's door and asking how much aspartame they've consumed. Or the studies they've done now where they ask people how much they consume in one year, then track five years if they get cancer. None of that's causation, just correlation. You'd need to isolate control groups of equivalent base risk and then study them over their entire lives with different aspartame consumption but everything else exactly the same. And since humans aren't the same, and money is finite, this kind of information is difficult to acquire. Plus it's only been around since the 70s, and it's not like health has gotten worse since 1973 even though I bet aspartame consumption has grown exponentially.
Nothing in any soda is healthy.

Water? Although I guess that doesn't count, since too much water will kill you quickly.

We spend too much time trying to discover elaborate and complex bogeymen instead of being rational and following common sense. The dangers of aspartame are not "toxins" or "poison" but are the same as any sugar or other substance abuse, it conditions your body to accepting that level, gradually increasing tolerance and/or requiring more consumption eventually destabilizing your diet/life.

In most cases where soda consumption would correlate with negative effects, I suspect you wouldn't have a hard time finding at least ten other health management problems with that person outside of soda consumption. It allows people to abrogate responsibility due to the "health bogeyman of the week" which changes or goes away in a few months when there's a new one THAT IS KILLING US ALL.

Coke is not a health drink, it is a recreational drink. It has been deemed safe to drink moderately as long as a person is keeping a regular diet by getting their vitamins and minerals from other liquids, like juices.

It can also provide a boost for athletes as the carbohydrates provide fuel to deliver glycogen to the muscles, but is absorbed better if diluted in water or gatorade because the high carbohydrate amount absorbs slower in the stomach and may pull in water from other parts of the body to dilute it, dehydrating you. A good amount of caffeine can simulate the release of epinephrine and maintain blood-sugar levels, both of which can improve muscle activity.

True, can't argue with that. That's why I wuv you Gonzi.
But you clarified it yourself, and benji too. No one said it's healthy, not even what I quoted say it's healthy, just 'safe'. I'll just assume that what you meant are some people who mistakenly think it's 'healthy' becaues they have an alternative to their excessive sugar consumption.
Aspartame isn't a natural compound so no one should be surprised if it's not healthy. Heck, even natural things our body need/produces can't be healthy if in excess or abused too much.
IMO, it's not about if it's healthy or not, it's how much you take. Even exercise, which is healthy for you can be 'not healthy' if done too much without giving your body the chance to rest and recover.

Have you ever heard of independet research? Those researches usually reveal harmful effects of those "healty" products.

Ordered articles= bunch of money to scientists pockets. :lame:
Independent research articles= All true nothing but true. (Y)

That's a lot of faith to place in independent research, which as others have pointed out is not necessarily without their own agenda. In any event, I don't think anyone's arguing that soft drinks are healthy, but rather the idea that they're a lot of hidden danger in them. And even if it's true, the straightforward risks of consuming a lot of soft drink are well-known without having to look for anything sinister.

And since I feel like making a Simpsons reference...

One of my friend's parents are chefs at Chinese restaurant, and they told me that the food are too greasy to eat everyday. They're Chinese, yet they don't eat like that often. :)

Most places that aren't China make food that isn't "real" Chinese, especially in North America, but adapted Chinese cuisine. I love finding a place that cooks more "true" Chinese, but then everyone hates it because it's not the "Chinese" food they expect.
