On a similar note:

Wade says he’ll stay if Heat a title contender

MIAMI (AP)—Dwyane Wade(notes) will remain in Miami on one condition. He wants the Heat to become a championship contender again, the quicker the better.

Otherwise, he might need moving trucks next summer.

The reigning NBA scoring champion, who can opt out of his Heat contract after the 2009-10 season, said Monday that simply getting to the playoffs “is not enough” to satisfy him anymore, and that his long-term commitment to Miami hinges entirely on the franchise getting back into the mix for the title trophy he hoisted just three years ago.

A bit of a tall order for a rebuilding team and somewhat surprising as he has already won a championship, but I guess he's not content with just the one and I can certainly respect that. I would've thought he'd stay put, perhaps sign a three year deal similar to what Tim Duncan did in 2000 but perhaps there is some cause for concern.

The Heat should sign Andre Miller on the MLE. Beasley is learning to play SF anyway, so JO, Haslem and Beasley would be up front and Wade and Miller in the back. Plus a young and promising bench (Cook, Chalmers, Anthony, Moon, Quinn, Wright.). Maybe that will encourage him to sign an extension.

Yeah, getting a PG should be Miami's number one priority. If they can't sign Miller, maybe thay can trade for Hinrich...

... Or just get Iverson

Well, I'd say they already have a promising future with some good young players who still have a lot of potential to reach. The question is whether the Heat will reach a level where they can legitimately contend for a championship anytime soon, since by Wade's own admission reaching the Playoffs isn't enough for him. If his patience is wearing that thin, the Heat will probably have to hit the 50 win mark and at least get into the second round to make him feel comfortable with staying in Miami.

I am really hoping to see Wade getting one more ring, as him being the main guy on the team. If the Heat loses him, that'd be the worst day. Whatever it takes, the Heat needs to do it all to keep him.

However, I don't think we'll be a championship contender anytime soon unless major changes happen. Beasley, I don't think he'll ever turn out to be dominating inside force. I think someone like Amare should do better for this team if we ever can land somebody like him here.

i am hoping that'll happen instead of AI going to Memphis...he'll be a starter with Wade, they won't have to worry about the ball handler or the lack of defense as Wade provides both pretty well, and they'll have a second offensive option who can create his own shot and take pressure off Wade until Beasley develops into the superstar he's hyped up to be

The Heat might as well give it a try. It won't make them frontrunners to win the championship this year but so long as they can get a couple of steps closer to it, that has to bode well for their chances of retaining Wade.

Great win. Wade, Beasle, and Neal trio each had more than 20 points. Wade's going to deserve MVP for sure.

Anyways, 1 win 81 mores to go.

Despite not signing any player of significance (unless you consider Richardson one), the Heats are up 3-0. Maybe Haslem coming off the bench was a good move for them.

Yeah. Other than the fact that those 3 wins are from Knicks, Pacers and Bulls, I'm happy. I am not sure if we have enough firepower on both ends to win against top teams yet though.

Yeah, since Olowokandi left.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

The Suns easily could be in top 3 if they were in East I think. Anyways, it's going to be very interesting, how we are to stop their offense. Two of the unbeaten teams going at each other. My money's on Miami, 110 to 82. :D

That's much more realistic, I doubt that they can beat either Orlando, Boston or Cleveland. Miami will beat them by 6 points, just wait and see.

We just don't have a luxury of Wade struggling against teams like PHX and that's what happened tonight. Haslem playing more important minutes over our starting forward Beasley says enough about this time. We're shallow. Unless Beasley starts playing like a PF, I think we will see more Haslem than we anticipate. Tomorrow, it's WAS, so 4-1 start doesn't seem too bad at the moment.

I think it'll be a tight match-up against the Wizards and a resurging Agent Zero. His performance hasn't been too bad, and so long as the Heat doesn't give up the points they've built (like they did with the Suns), I say the Heat will stand a chance.

Mate, the Heat won the game and it turns out to be a tight game as I had expected. Wade scored 40...

It was too close though... way too close. Good thing I broke your jinx before too late.

It seems Wade really needs more consistent second fiddle players.

I agree on that one. Here's keeping my fingers crossed that JO and Quentin will provide that consistency to take the scoring load off Wade.

With those players as Wade's supporters, first round exit or at most second round exit seem to be a destination, but with Shaq as a second fiddle, Wade was able to win it all. I don't think this year is going to be anywhere near that year, but I'm hoping for second round realistically. That is of course, if JO and other key players become more consistent and take some burden off Wade's shoulder in preparation of the playoffs.
