If an artist uses auto-tune, it doesn't mean they don't have any talent. What is the explanation behind the success of auto-tune songs then? Diddy had been a veteran in the rap game, he is starting to use auto-tune because it is a trend, and I think he is going to make money with his new album. It doesn't mean that he has no talent does it? All rappers that have been using the auto-tune started out rapping and had been successful in the past. It was very smart in T-Pain that he found this tool to help his music career, and it has turned out to be a trend for others in the industry. Even if these artists can't sing with their natural voices, they still created and wrote melodies that they can sing, and auto-tune is a tool. What is wrong with that?
After all that you've said and ending with your question, the answer is:
Integrity.

The auto-tune is the most transparent mask for lack of talent in the history of all music. With guitars you can get pedals and such to change the effects, you can use distortion to make you sound better than you are but you still have to know how to play the guitar. I could speak into an auto-tune and it'd sound like something T Pain or whatever he's called would record and release. You don't need to have talent although I'll give Kanye West props, he's the only person I've ever heard who is a shit enough singer to make even the auto tune sound terrible.

Auto-Tune is clearly in the same level as Lip Syncing !

It's Ali G, not Borat. Same actor, different character.
EDIT: Jae's right.

I suspect it to be MikeDwyane.

People, auto-tune is the new form of hip hop, it is transforming the original to something new. True, if Tupac was alive he wouldn't like this, but so what? If he didn't like it, it doesn't mean others don't like it. Jay-Z seems to be the only person that is saying that he is against auto-tune but all the other big names didn't say anything. I don't see anybody being able to do music with auto-tune randomly, like if you sing something via the auto-tune it doesn't mean its as good as what T-Pain does. What could Jay-Z do other than make a song about the "Death of Auto-tune"? If one guy can't accept this, it doesn't mean everybody else in the hip-hop world would hate it as well. If you hate auto-tune so much, just wait till it dies out. No one could make people stop doing this. Is it unethical to use auto-tune? I don't think so, if it is just used by untalented people then explain the artists that had collaborated with T-Pain (T.I., Lil Wayne...). The auto-tune produced sound is still music, isn't it? Then wouldn't it be different than lip-syncing? Anyone can lip-sync like these idiots. If lip-syncing is at the same level with auto-tune, these people wouldn't have to lip-sync, they could make their own auto-tune song.

I love it when people answer/argue their own arguments without even realizing it.

That's because they are talentless hacks. Apparently speaking in rhythm wasn't enough for them so now they are using auto-tune to try and forge some sort of bearable singing voice.

Talentless hacks. I don't think Lil Wayne even knows where he is 90% of the time.

You have a point. People are stupid enough to buy albums.
tee-pane wrote:Is it unethical to use auto-tune?
Of course not, but it compromises the integrity of singing. It's like being a baseball player on steroids using a corked bat.
tee-pane wrote:if it is just used by untalented people then explain the artists that had collaborated with T-Pain (T.I., Lil Wayne...).
They're business people who capitalized on the auto-tune trend because they saw that people were stupid enough to purchase albums?
tee-pane wrote:The auto-tune produced sound is still music, isn't it?
It's not music. It's sound. I don't know if I would call it singing either because... well, have you seen American Idol?
tee-pane wrote:Then wouldn't it be different than lip-syncing? Anyone can lip-sync like these idiots.
Lip-syncing has nothing to do with speaking into an auto-tuner. You're comparing apples and oranges.
tee-pane wrote:If lip-syncing is at the same level with auto-tune, these people wouldn't have to lip-sync, they could make their own auto-tune song.
Britney Spears lip sync, but she doesn't use an auto-tuner. That's her voice you're listening to. When Kanye West "sings," you're not really hearing his voice.

One of those ultra talented artists at work:

Was Little Wayne just randomly plucking the guitar strings (one to two at most) and pretending to play the guitar?
I admit I have listened/watched quite a few guitarist but I never know how to actually play the instrument, but I think Little Wayne was pretending in that video.
If that's the case, he's crappier than I thought.

I don't even know who any of these people are.

It's better if it stays that way. Ignorance is really bliss in some instances.
Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:56 pm
I could never stand lil Wayne and all those damn untalented "rappers". Jay-Z brought my mind to Hip Hop and for me still is one of the most talented writers (with commercial success).
I hope that Hip Hop really changes soon because the last 1 1/2 years were just so bad for every Hip-Hop fan ...
And for me personally ... Im pretty disappointed with the new Mos Def album. At least he kind of stays with his old sound. And dont get me wrong, I love Mos Defs's sound .. the last two LPs were sick, but "the ecstatic" does not really find a fan in me.

http://www.realestniggas.com/hip-hop-ne ... -nba-2k10/NBA 2k fans and auto-tune haters, you may have to listen to the auto-tuned track on 2k10. lol.

I hope by that time, someone would figure out how to change the music in the game (for pc of course).

So much music these days and voices you hear are only computer filters turning shit into money. It's not like auto tuning is the first popular filter used in hip hop. You had chopped and screwed, which even 2 pac was using on some songs. The problem with auto tuning is not the filter, but that the music scene turned into an atm machine without a soul.

Only if William Hung used an auto-tuner...
Tue Jun 30, 2009 6:07 am
That sounded decent despite the autotune. Just shows you that Mr. Hung has talent.
Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:37 am
Oh God, that actually sounded better than Kanye's singing. He must be fucking awful.
