my player suddenly experienced a growth spurt...

Postby teddyboy09 on Mon Jun 08, 2009 10:21 pm

Okay. I haven't played this game since...I think one of the last Albys' updates. And every update, I transfer the original players I made (with arm tat, cyberface, leg tat, portrait...the whole shebang) from the old one to the new with little to no errors, none of those errors as odd as this one..

I just decided to play this again because I had new ideas for jerseys, so I started playing after I made said new designs. Lo and behold, my player (who is me) is now 6'6"! From 5'9" it went and got taller. I was like, "huh?" I tried changing up the height in appearance.dbf but it's not working. I'm still real tall. Now, if that happened in real life I really wouldn't mind but this is puzzling.

Anyone have any idea what went wrong? I'd really appreciate it. :D Thanks!

Check your players.dbf is there any player with the same player ID as your created player.

Nope. I did delete some players from the players.dbf a while back so I don't know if my playerid has duplicates with any other player's, but from what I can remember, I don't think I had any playerid that was the same as anyone's. If that is the case, though, what should I do? I already deleted old entries and even though I keep changing my player's playerid (to see if that could work) nothing changes.

Thanks for the response, though; will inform you of anything else I can find while tinkering with this. It's been a long time; I feel a little rusty. (lol) I just want to prepare everything so when I get the urge to play after the Lakers win the 2009 championship (yes, they will. they SHOULD), I'd just open the game and play.

As a rule, you shouldn't delete players from the databases. If you want to get rid of them out of the active rosters, change their TEAM to 32 (the Retired Pool). As it is you've got a situation with the databases that's kind of difficult to fix, basically you'd have to check to make sure all the ID numbers line up between players.dbf and appearance.dbf without any discrepencies but I personally would be inclined to start over from a backup because that can be pretty messy and time consuming.

Okay, thanks I'll try that. I just gotta find one recent backup I made.

Odd question that would probably not be connected to this problem, but just a thought. If a playerid order in players.dbf was, say, 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, and in appearance.dbf it was ordered in some random sequence like 1003, 1000, 1002, 1001. Would that do anything different to anything? Because I think I transferred records from appearance in the wrong order as I did in players. Just would like to know if that could have played a hand in this mix-up.

Would it work, though, if I:

- "retire" said player through the dbf
- create a new player with the old one's normal height
- give new created player the old one's playerpkg (the 7-letter name code to be able to use a cyberface and arm & leg tats)
- with the new entry in appearance.dbf, edit new created player's entry (all you have to do is place -1 on faceid right?)

or would that just amount to nothing?

Thanks again!

I'm not sure actually, I've always kept the two databases in line with one another. So long as there's a corresponding ID number in each database it might be OK, but I wouldn't be surprised if it caused problems (if only mixed up data).

Okay, I've started to try creating a new player and just give him the old player's plyrpkg and whatnot.

Thing is I couldn't find that one tutorial from the old nlsc site where it's discussed in a step-by-step manner how one can make a created player into a regular part of the roster, with his own cyberface, arm & leg tat, portrait and the like. If anyone can help out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
