LeBron Thinking Twice In Signing A New Deal With Cleveland

New York Daily News wrote:LeBron not sure if he will sign new deal with the Cavaliers

Was LeBron James(notes) making a fashion statement or a statement about his future when he wore a New York Yankees hat during a press conference Sunday in Cleveland?

James was sporting a grey Yankees cap Sunday when he said he doesn't know if he'll sign a contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, according to the New York Daily News. The choice of baseball caps will cause many members of the Cavs' organization and their fans and continue to fuel speculation that the NBA's reigning MVP will leave his hometown — and perhaps sign with the Knicks — following the 2010 season.

"I don't know," James said Sunday in Cleveland. "I haven't thought about it just yet. I'm just going to take time off from basketball and not think about contracts or the game, period. I'll relax with my family; we'll figure out once it comes from them."

According to the Daily News, James is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 18. He also has the option to exercise the final year on his contract or wait until next summer to become an unrestricted free agent. The Cavs can offer James the most money, while the Knicks, who will have enough salary cap room to sign James, can offer him Madison Square Garden and the chance to earn millions in endorsements off the court.

Nothing new here. Biggest chances to win he's got in Cleveland. He'll stay there. All that NY hype is based on.. well, on nothing.

This is getting ridicilous. Every forum that has something to do with basketball, wether it is a Cavs' fan forum or whatever teams' it is, LeBron has more threads about him that the teams' best player himself. Icon..

I guess he will try one more year with Cleveland, if they can't get anywhere, he will sign with New York. The Yankees hat is nothing special, a lot of different people wear it. I want to see him go elsewhere if he doesn't win next year.

Small cities like Cleveland, just keeps having trouble keeping a super stars like Lebron. Some pros play for the love of the game, but eventually, job is a job. More money, more opportunity, more fame, it all just leads to something better, which I think it also relates to more chance at the championship for the bigger cities since it can easily attract players. All you saying, Lebron is dick if he relocates, I bet all u would do same to where you work right now. wouldn't u move from ur crappy school if harvard want u? but then i hated francis and yi when they did that so... oh well... i wouldn't blame james anyways. ny is just a lovely city.

I'm not surprised, if I was LeBron I would seek a team with a supporting cast that doesn't choke in the playoffs.

Winning 66 games for almost nothing except for the MVP trophy definitely got him thinking.

Question is, which team is that? A team that can give him a good supporting cast that gives him his best chance at a ring and at the same time giving him max money that he deserves?

NY as the best chance to win it all? You could say Clippers, and I wouldn't be more surprised.

New York will have cap space... But they won't have quality players...

The team with cap space first need to sign another superstar (Boozer, Bosh) and then LeBron. James won't be so stupid of signing with another team that will take 2 years to became a caliber team

Remember when the Celtics pushed for Garnett? They first traded for Ray Allen, that allowed Garnett to say yes

But there's a problem again. Name another superstar, who would sign with NYK and wouldn't care about their record. If they don't get someone really good via trade, I doubt their chances in 2010.

I really hope he stays in Cleveland, he is the only hope left for this small city. If he leaves I hope he is going to Houston Rockets. Yeah, man. Big optimism.

NYK has Lee. Besides, one superstar like Lebron should easily attract other great players especially when he's in NY. Not that I want him to end up in NY, but just saying...

It might as well have been, the speculation is nothing new and neither is James wearing a Yankees cap. It isn't a done deal until he signs on the dotted line but for now I'd rate Cleveland's chances of re-signing him a little better than they were at the beginning of the year, even in the face of being eliminated by the Magic.

I really don't understand all this LeBron-to-NY talk. The Knicks are an even worse team than Cleveland. Mike 'Antoni's (no D) brand of basketball is entertaining to watch and makes for fun regular seasons, but it never leads to playoff success. If Bron does leave Cleveland, he'll do what Clyde Drexler did and go to a team that's already good so he can get a ring.

I'd like to see him stay in Cleveland and win there, but since the GM's idea of "improving" the team was to go out and get Ben Wallace, Wally Szerbiahmadinejadiack, and Delonte West it's probably safe to say that management is too clueless for that to happen. Cleveland looks a lot like the Chicago Bull teams in the 80s that were nothing but Michael Jordan and a bunch of random nobodies like Dave Corzine and Orlando Woolridge. In fact, if these Cavs were playing back then, they'd get swept by Larry Bird's Celtics every year just like the Bulls did. I hope I'm wrong and Danny Ferry and co. do something intelligent in the next couple years to give the Cavs a serious shot at the title, but so far it looks like Ferry is about as good a GM as he was a player.

The LeBron-to-NY speculation pretty much hinges on him being a Yankees fan and the Knicks being a big market (and the rumours about his Nike money doubling, tripling or whatever in a bigger market). That's not to say it couldn't happen but he's going to get a huge payday no matter where he goes and he's still going to have a business relationship with Nike so it's likely he's telling the truth when he says he wants to play for the team that gives him the best opportunity to at least contend for a championship year-in, year-out. Right now, that could be Cleveland.

OMG!!!! Sorry moderators, but I have to say this. You are a fucking moron. Bulls have 6 championships hello?????????? They had Pippen, Kukoc and Oakley, oh yes and Rodman later. Pippen came in Chicago in the 80's so shut the fuck up and go learn something about basketball. You remember the first time MJ retired Chicago was about a 55+ win team, damn I hate people like you. Remember when Jordan dropped 63 on Celtic's in the playoffs. To quote Larry Bird after the game, "That was God disguised as Michael Jordan. He's the most awesome player I've ever seen...he was getting his points in the flow of the game...scary". And that time they got swept, he was just a freaking kid!!!!! 90's Bulls beat prime Celtics on any given day!!!!!!!!!
