Manny Pacquiao Vs Ricky Hatton

What's unintelligent with that? That's the time when the people are really drawn in and all eyes are in their TV sets. If they placed the ad right before the round, chances are people are not yet watching. People go to pee or do whatever it is during commercial breaks so if they place it in between the actual show, there's no escape. We'll see the ad whether we like it or not. But I understand you, I think you're just annoyed and can't find the right word to say and the coolest word to say for you is the word "stupid", pretty much like Manny Pacquiao's "you know and I mean" when he's lost for words.

From a short term marketing standpoint it may not be stupid, but in the long term it's still stupid, market-wise, because the airtime of commercials actually exceeded the set standard, but since the broadcasting station isn't under the jurisdiction of that particular goverment agency which handles such things, it got off the hook. It now has potential to be barraged with legislation, bad news for adverts, if it does happen. What we just all need, more legislation.

Stupid because the sponsors and broadcaster didn't have the insight to plan the airtimes just in case that the fight might be short or not last past three rounds (which is the accepted norm for a short fight). The number and length of commercials could have made a 12 round fight seem like 24 rounds.

Stupid because I was already sick and tired of the cut-away long commercials during the singing of the national anthems and the entrance of fighters. Tom Jones' rendition of God Save The Queen wasn't even shown, it would be understandable if the singing of the Star Spangled Banner wasn't shown also as some sort of support to Pacquiao or nationalism but only the God Save the Queen was left out. Does the singer of God Save the Queen have to be part Filipino as well just to for it to be shown, like that with the U.S. national anthem? What's up with that? So much for respecting other culture.

That has been the case before in the 90's here, but not this much. The current media-praising Pacquiao gets is overwhelming to the point that it sucks.

Many Filipino athletes have been world champions multiple times yet they just pass by like they didn't achieve anything. Just one-day news, the following day, it dies.

And of Manny? It's already one week since the Hatton fight but it's still on the news. Heck we don't care if Manny's mom said "I ain't rich" then you'd learn from the news (which is not really news, it won't matter to the common Pinoy) that she's on LA shopping while Pacquiao is in his suite.

These media folks should at least tone down the Pacquiao thing.

If that's "how it goes" then that's "how it goes" today, and not before.

I would call it stupid if it is. Like Artest confronting Bryant. Manny is in the level of the LeBron James, the Michael Phelps, the Muhammad Alis. I know you don't like to admit that but that's a fact. It's not just the media is praising him too much but that's "how it goes" right now. He's an international figure already.

What, you're a moderator now? The discussion is still within range. The fight is shown locally, Manny won cleanly as hell, Hatton fell on his back and his eyes rolled back. Fantastic win, but the ads, commercial breaks, six-straight fight replays to fill the airtime, just isn't right.

I'd like to see him go against younger fighters. Now if he goes after Coto, then it will be another blowout. I've read somewhere that Chavez Jr. is interested in fighting Manny.

I don't care that you like being barraged by adverts. All I know is, I hate those numerous commercials, and other people feel the same way as I do (accdg. to the major broadsheets, TV and radio news that are not Pacquiao obssessed - mostly AM radio).

Actually my point was, Manny is just a boxer. Whatever he does outside boxing is beyond our concerns, and his "nationalism" is worst than a wrestling gimmick. The songs he sing about our Philippines and about being Filipino? They're part of it.
