Game Fails to Load

If you don't know your specs already, you'll need to find out about your PC's components (video card, sound card etc). Going into the Device Manager is probably as easy a way as any. In Windows XP, you can right-click My Computer and select Properties, then go to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. You'll then be taken to a list of hardware currently installed on your PC including Display Adapters (your video card) and so on. You'll need to make a note of these specs so that you can then search for drivers. For example, if you have an nVidia GeForce card, you'll need to download the latest drivers from nVidia. If you have a Radeon card, you'll need to get their drivers. That's easy enough to Google or you can go straight to their websites.

I've updated the only driver available under Display Adapters but it's still not working... Could it be some sort of settings problem?

may i ask what your videocard is?

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE

Shouldn't be causing many problems since it did work before I reinstalled Windows. I don't recall making any changes to the hardware, though.

What about other drivers? Your sound card, for example.

It doesn't show a sound card in Display Adapters...

That's because a sound card isn't a Display Adapter; I just mentioned that as an example. It'll be under a different section, Sound, video and game controllers.

Well, like I said, I recommend updating all your drivers. Check out that link I just posted for more information. Otherwise, you might want to take a look at this:

I don't use it myself but the Driver Detective software mentioned in that article might be the best way to go if you're not experienced in updating drivers as it will scan your hardware and then check for the latest drivers for you to download. It could very well be your sound card that's not installed properly and causing NBA Live not to start.

I need to purchase it in order to have it check the latest drivers. I've tried Google and it doesn't come up with any updates for my sound card, although Driver Detective does say that it's "out of date".

What does it say about your sound card? Does it just say "High Definition Audio Device" in Driver Detective as well or does it give a manufacturer/model number?

Driver Cure says that the company is IDT, my version is 6.0.6000.16386 and the newest version is 6.10.6052.2

I've tried searching for the new one.

EDIT: Okay, I've found my Drivers and Utilities disc from when I bought the computer and successfully installed the SigmaTel whatever driver. The High Definition Audio Device has been replaced and I'm going to try the game again.

EDIT II: Seems to work now. Will try a full game later, but it hasn't been failing to load anymore.

Sounds like that might've been the case then, that the sound card wasn't installed properly. Good luck.

Okay, the problem has returned. I played without any problems through last night and a bit this morning, but it's now the afternoon and it's not loading again...

If a simple restart doesn't work, try updating your remaining out of date drivers (if any). If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure what else to suggest as the problem is obviously with your computer and not the game. Perhaps seek further advice from a computer tech in your area as it doesn't sound like everything's been installed properly after the format.
