Is this year's playoff series one of the most unpredictable?

Postby mvpshaq32 on Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:45 am

I, myself, have not seen any season's playoff series to be as surprising and as evenly matched as this one.
As we've seen already, there have been several surprising Game 1's with Bulls over Celtics, 76ers over Magic, and the Rockets shutdown of the Blazers.
This year's matchups have closed the gap in terms on each team's chances advancing and I highly doubt there will be any sweeps, except possibly the Cavs-Pistons and Lakers-Jazz, but even then, it doesn't seem too likely.
This is what makes the NBA fun to watch again. All I want to see is two teams settling it in the court and ignoring all this crap that goes behind the scenes like about the refs or who Twitters during half time.

The NBA has gotten to the point where all teams are pretty much equal except for the two elite teams the Lakers and the Cavs. They are the only shew in for their own conference finals.
Allen Iverson passing on family values:

A.I.: son, what you doing there?
A.I.'s son: practicing my math for my test tommorow
A.I: practice? practice? we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test - practice. we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test, not the test - practice.

Though they lost in a fluke game to the Sixers (see: Sixers/Pistons 2008), the Magic could probably also be put in the shew-in category. Game 1 only means so much. It isn't uncommon for a couple fluke first round game ones, and I think that after the game 2's have been played, and most of the series are tied, people will realize that this year is nothing special.

76ers did a good job, but it wasn't their win, it was Magic's lost! so Magic would win this, any way!
and what about Bulls, Rose is just AMAZING, and i'm starting to believe that amazing happens this year and Chicago become great team not next season, but now, by winning Champs!
only god can judge me

Let's not get too excited already. The teams just played first game of the playoffs. Besides, there were a few surprises already, but I don't think there is going to be much more of a surprise than Baron's Warriors beating 1st seeded Mavericks a few years ago. You also know Allan Houston and Sprewell took the Knicks(8th seed) to the finals, and the year AI reaching the finals, now those were unpredictable.

Anything could happen since all West teams have been close or close to equal, while some East teams are plagued with injuries.

i mean considering where ai is today, it is surprising, he was the mvp of the league from the best team in east that made to the finals in 2001. i guess i just wanted to mention ai since i'm bit obsessed that i am not seeing him in uniform. :?

Let's be fair, a good game that included knocking down long jumpers. ;) That's turned quite ugly before.

I wouldn't say it's been too unpredictable or the most unpredictable after a couple of surprising wins in Game One. After all, that's all it's been: a couple of surprising wins. If heavy favourites get knocked out within the first two rounds and upsets extend to series victories then most of the predictions will be out the window but not after one game. I suppose it therefore has the potential to be an unpredictable postseason, but so does every other year.

C'mon, the Rockets' "crushing" of Portland in Game 1 shouldn't be a surprise. They just lack experience. Although I'm a Rockets fan, I would say that the Trail Blazers will return strong in Game 2 because they won't allow any team to blow them in their own floor.

But the Rockets are fully aware that the Blazers will be better prepared for game 2, and they also know that this time it wont be as easy as it was so the Rockets will return strong in game 2 as well.

I for one expected a more competitive game to set the tone for the series but the Rockets picking up the victory wasn't too unbelievable.

sauru still hates that scenario. He hates any team winning it all unless their name is the Celtics. Or he's just pissed that his team is to be eliminated in the second round.

I'd forgotten Judd Apatow wrote it. Definitely not one that's mentioned alongside his other works.
