questions

Postby ThrashMetalFan on Sun Apr 19, 2009 6:26 am

Overall, this is an excellent patch.

However, I have a few questions, comments, and concerns.

1) Where do you get your depth charts from? I refer to cbssports.com and some players that are listed as, for example, 4th in the lineup, are 2 point ratings ahead of the 3rd man in the lineup in your rosters. This can be sort of an inconvenience, considering that cbssports.com is probably the most reliable, accurate, and up-to-date listing of depth charts on the web.

2) Why is Yi Jianlian's name listed as Jianlian Yi. I understand that Chinese players' last names are technically their first names, however this is not the case with Yao Ming.

3) Why are certain players unable to have flashy dunks/participate in the dunk contest. A few include Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, and Russell Westbrook, Joe Alexander. The last two were eligible to be in it, but lost in the NBA.com fan voting, so them not being able to even participate or do flashy dunks in the game, is a cause of concern.

Otherwise, great patches as usual.

From the boxscores themselves. Although I do make allowances, I generally go by how many minutes they're playing on a regular basis. NBA Live doesn't have the best substitution logic so you have to do what you can to try and get it to give the right bench players the most minutes. So yeah, I base the lineups on the boxscores and stats of the latest games so if a regular starter is coming off the bench in the latest couple of games, the rosters will reflect that.

As for the allowances I mentioned, those are things like keeping Michael Beasley as the sixth man even though in some games he might end up playing the second most minutes off the bench. I do check the depth charts but I find they don't always work out well in trying to work with NBA Live's substitution logic (or lack thereof ;)) and they don't always recognise current injuries or who's actually getting the most minutes.

ThrashMetalFan wrote:2) Why is Yi Jianlian's name listed as Jianlian Yi. I understand that Chinese players' last names are technically their first names, however this is not the case with Yao Ming.

It's done so that "Yi" will appear on the back of his jersey. I still haven't been able to figure out how to do that without reversing the names, if I find a way I'll definitely switch it back. Unfortunately right now it's one or the other, correct name on the back of the jersey or correct name in the roster listings.

Players need a dunking rating of 80 for the game to recognise them as eligible for the dunk contest. As for the range of dunks they perform, that's governed by their dunk package. The dunk packages are not without their limitations and there isn't a perfect package for every player in the league so sometimes I've had to go with the most appropriate one I can find. I've got a stickied thread for ongoing support of dunk packages though, so if you do see anyone who's performing dunks they shouldn't or not performing dunks you think they should or you have any specific suggestions of dunk package values for specific players please let me know.

I like the thread except for in dynasty mode every team is way under the caps space. Is there a way to turn this off or any other solution u have. I cant sign any free agents or make and trades.

Hi everybody, I'm new here. I downloaded the new rosters, and now I can't play a game. When I go to play now and it finishes loading, the game crashes. It also happens on dynasty when I'm about to play a game. didn't happened before the roster patch. Any help? Thank You, for the updates.

Kwame Brown is definitely not in the Lakers in the patch; he's been with the Pistons since v2.0, the first release for the 08/09 season. If he's appearing on the Lakers then the patch has not been loaded properly. Trust me, I would've noticed by now (or someone would've reported it) if I'd left out that transaction. ;)

I've tested the patch thoroughly and there shouldn't be any crashes. If you're using a custom aiact.viv file, please try restoring the default. I can't guarantee that the rosters will be compatible with all custom files as I didn't use on in the creation of the rosters. You might also want to try clearing the contents of your workingdb and currentdb folders.

Thank you, I wanna let you know that I can now play the game, it just took a restart of the computer, dont know why, and a different game, couldn't play against Orlando. But know some of the players faces are different, like only literally black and white, or the color of the basketball, and I cant hear the announcers. Any ideas? Is it my computer??
Really thank you for your time, have a good day.

No, that means the art hasn't been installed properly resulting in a missing texture error. Please check out Faces Troubleshooting.txt for more info on how to fix that up. Glad to hear the crashes were resolved after a restart. :)

No problem, hope you can get it sorted out and if you're still stuck, let me know and I'll see what else I can suggest to help resolve the art problem.

Andrew's rosters are used with the default's aiact. He can't guarantee compatibility with others. You can try though but remember to back up first.

Ok i'll try it. Thanks sir Andrew for your roster patch. I've been using your roster patch since NBA Live 2000. Back when you still use batch files
to install the updates. :D Thank you very much. You're freakin awesome. (Y)

Hey Andrew, my apologies about the Kwame Brown thing, you were right.

Anyways, I'm wondering if you know a lot about DB Commander.

Is there anyway to update the Years Pro by 1 year for every single player at the same time so I can create players for this year's prospects (Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, Hasheem Thabeet, etc.) without having to do it for every single one separately (it would take forever!)?

Not as far as I'm aware. I always do it manually since not everyone in the database needs to have their Years Pro increased.

hi andrew and boys, I'm an Italian boy, sorry for my english i don't speak it as well as i like nba. Today I've installed the Pc game, NBA LIVE 2008 but after installed your patch (version 2.9) just after playng a match (every kind of match) at the end of a quarter (it could be the first, more often the fourth) the game collapse to the desktop, and there's the windows message :" Nba 2008 was closed after a dangerous error".
I don't know what's the problem i think the patch, beacuse i've played one match in the morning without patch and there aren't problems. Maybe i didin't install correctly the patch? I did just this: click on the install.exe patch-file and after that (despite maybe there wasn't the need because i didn't start a dinasty mode) I click on fix primacy_fix batch file.
I don't understand why the crash happens cause the roster are installed weell..
anyway i hope in your precious help, thank you for the reading.. :)
