Sports or Not?

Are these sports. I'd post this in other sports but they may not qualify.
How about bowling? Is it a sport. I think so.
Cheerleading-No. I think if cheerleading is a sport, then refereeing is a sport. There is no competition in cheerleading. People dont pay to see the cheerleaders, they pay to see the game.
Nascar(Race-car driving) Tough one there. I say yes even though no real energy is used.

There are Cheerleading competitons(Regionals, Nationals) so there definitely is competition if you're one of those hardcore cheerleading schools.
I guess driving could be a skill. My mom's a very good driver though she goes slow. I'm not sure since I've never been in a NASCAR car(though I've never done cheerleading either).

Is Curling a sport?
Even though I live in Canada now and have embraced much of this culture, I still don't understand why Curling is such a big thing in this country (and some other countries too). I mean, I've never played it so maybe it's unfair for me to judge but I think it's pretty safe to say that basketball, soccer, hockey, etc. are much, much, much, much, much, much <and add about 31 more muches> more legitimate sports than Curling.

Gameplaying is almost a sport today. You train to get better, team play is important and you are in different competition there you can earn money.

Cricket = not a sport.
Curling = not a sport really. Great way too look like a goofy mofo however.
Internet posting... definately a sport! We're keyboard warriors, ready to sling words at eachother at any given moment. Sometimes I slam my fist on the desk in rage! Moderating is like officiating. Andrew is David Stern!
The parallels are there! Your fingers get quite a work out. One day I'm going to make some girl very happy as a result of the superior athletic ability of my fingres. I handle the mouse like no other too. I can move it from left to right so quick... I crash the computer.
I'm lame, but that's why you love me.

I don't consider cheerleading a sport. It's an exhibition, like dance. They have cheerleading competitions but they have rock paper scissors competitions also. It's always fun to get in this discussion with young women.

I consider a sport to be any type of competitive, organized athletic activity.
Competition is the key element of a sport to me. Cheerleading and dance are primarily exhibitions. The basic point of it is to jump around and yell to raise the crowd's spirits with no real defined goal. The goal is not the purpose of the activity...the exhibition is.
If you never had another cheerleading competition again people would still be in cheerleading...same for dance.
If you outlawed all forms of basketball competition...basketball would cease to exist. Competition is the key element.
Now some people may say track and field is not a sport by this definition...because if you outlawed it people would still run. That's obviously true but competitive running...for different distances etc and the other aspects of track and field are built around the competition. You wouldn't see much hammer throwing or 10,000 meter running if the competition ceased. Track and a field is a primarily competitive activity unto itself that is seperate fom running. Cheerleading competitions are not separate from cheerleading.

Oooh, me and a few friends of mine at school invented a game we like to call (but also would like to come up with a better name) RPS2. It's much deeper than the traditional Rock Paper Scissors and quite addictive, too. We have our own little league going with games mostly played during lunch, and I'm proud to say I'm first in the league at 5 wins and 2 losses (a match would be up to 10).
Fire defeats all of Rock, Paper, Scissors, but is defeated by Water (which is neutral with Rock, Paper, Scissors), which is defeated by Lightning (don't ask me why the Pokemon parallel) but Lightning can be defeated by any of Rock, Paper, and Scissors. But the real gamebreaker is the formidable Dinosaur, which defeats EVERYTHING but can only be used after it is awakened by the appearance of two or more Lightnings. I highly recommend this game to anyone, but please be sure not to take all the credit for the creation of RPS2 (working title).
