good day! i'm a basketball afficionado but the thing is im quite small for my positon as a center thats the problem whem im taking up taller players. I just mastered my ala-Boozer fadeaway jump shots to prevent to be block but actually im not used to it im having terrible field goal percentage so I decided to change it and make my move ala-Duncan but again the thing is I can't face up coz my defender is 3~4" taller. So I'm still looking for a more perimeter shots but to no avail. I'm averaging 8.9ppg 7.3rpg I want to raise my game and makes it more productive. In the end, when I am facing this kind of trouble I just do some dipcidu moves or in US term they call it circus shot! whew, right now I'm beginning to practice some of Al Jefferson moves. Hope you can comment and suggests. Thanks so much more power for this forum! (Y)

Btw, Im playing here in Singapore an amateur player.

Weight: 235lbs
Age: 23

Last year for my amateur league trying to try out for the national team which the team having trouble in its size/length against China and Philippines.

If you want to be like Duncan, face-up with the backboard and not the basket.

yes im using the backboard but the problem is I can't face up due to my height shortage. Al Jefferson moves I think is much more suitable.

Don't face up straight up, this way it'll get blocked. Try fading and using the backboard. Difficult, but if you can practice it and make it your own, should work.

you're tallish, use your height, always go up strong and never fade back from pressure.

Practice a few goto moves and learn what works for you.


Personally, I like to bait my defender. I like to make them think I don't want it in the post by passing out a few times. Then to get by them all I have to do is throw a fake pass and spin right by.

another great thing to practice is your post moves that dont use a dribble. For instance fake left, turn right, shot fake, if he jumps you can dribble and dunk it, or go into the lane with a hook.


just dont fade away, once players realize you do that you'll get little bastard guards come in for the easy block from behind while you are fading.

You should practice facing the basket when you have the ball and using moves out of the triple threat such as a jab step forward and a dribble and hop back to gain room for your jumper.

Like Jaosming said you can use a pump fake when your back is to the basket by faking that you are doing a fallaway, from there you can start your dribble and and use your momentum from the fadeaway fake to hop back while facing up into your shot.

If you feel stepping back is hard or not working, try driving a couple steps and then step out and pull up.

Learn the sky hook. It's incredibly effective and easy when shot correctly. Most players don't shoot it because they feel that they look funny while doing it.

You will need to pound into your defender sometimes to get some room if you want some inside shots. Giving them a good bump so they end up with their weight on their heels can by you space and time to get off a shot without worrying about their length.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys..

I think I go with the post moves without dribbling so that I can manage to turn left or make my pivot foot works harder which can make my defender away.

Right now I'm really practicing the baseline drive coming from the post but if baseline is locked I'd rather intend to go for some jab step then semi hook.. Looks much better though. (Y)

just dont get stuck under the hoop man, know where you are

if you get under there, keep your composure, dream shake it on em and either pass or shoot.

just, going baseline without knowing what your doing, can get ugly

Im trying to perfect some of hook or scoop shot from the baseline but ofcourse I'd understand how will the defense collapse and that's the time for some nice pass to a cutting teammate. Its like having a lot of options underneath. I'd make sure I'll master some of Al Jefferson moves but for passing ability I'd go with Brad Miller's.

I was short for the longest time until a 7th grade growth spurt [ah, the nostalgia] and always found that an elevated hook shot or a Tony-Parker-esque "teardrop" shot seemed to work the best at that time.

yeah and some NBA fundamentals it really helped me a alot since I'm a PG I watched NBA Fundamentals:Passing and it really helped me!
