Celtics sign Mikki Moore

Postby Robert on Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:03 am

The Boston Celtics have signed free agent forward Mikki Moore.

Danny Ainge, president of basketball operations, did not disclose the terms in Tuesday's announcement.

The 7-foot, 225-pound Moore was waived by Sacramento last week. He spent part of the 2002-2003 season with the Celtics.

In his 11th NBA season, Moore has career averages of 5.9 points and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 54.8 percent from the field.

He has appeared in 15 playoff games, averaging 10.2 points and 5.3 rebounds and shooting 54.5 percent.

Boston wants a big guy with a big body to back up their current centers but why choose MOORE? MOORE is just tall man with a thin body and he looks like this

Moore is a decent enough pickup. Garnett will be back with plenty of time to spare before the Playoffs and once the postseason begins he's no doubt going to take minutes back from the bench so it's not like Moore is going to make or break them when the chips are down. He's another capable frontcourt player they now have at their disposal.

Moore had just 1 good year with the Nets and he received a multiyear contract at the full mid level exception... WTF?

He's just a journeyman... He's not even a 1/8 of last years PJ Brown

Wow, the Celtics went from Brown to Moore. (N)
Why didn't they wait a little longer and see if Joe Smith got buyout and try to sign him?

Because Smith has already stated he is not accepting a buyout.
Moore had just 1 good year with the Nets

He was pretty much as good the next year with the Kings. And had played as well in his stint with the Jazz. (Wasn't too shabby back in his Pistons days, but that was before the new defensive rules so he wasn't as useful.)

He'll be a good addition to the Celtics because he's a very efficient scorer. He'll take minutes from Davis and Scalabrine up-front improving the Celtics offense. And since the Celtics defense is so awesome, he won't hurt them and they'll probably find a way to use his length in the system. (Something New Jersey and Utah did, but Sacramento had no clue on.)

Further to what Ben said, it doesn't seem PJ Brown is readily available anyway since he appears to have finally called it a day.

Doubtful, certainly no more than the seemingly impending signing of Stephon Marbury.

Yeah and like I said with Marbury I don't think he's gonna screw up the chance of playing on a championship team

You never know. He's screwed up every other chance he's had, there's no reason why this time must be different simply because he's on a contender. That's not to come down too hard on him because we human beings are stubborn creatures but we can also learn from our mistakes and it doesn't seem like he has. Thus, I remain skeptical.

Well, he didn't "screw up" in New Jersey, he just used a good year to get more money in Sacramento. He had the role of a talented producer off the bench in NJ and in Boston, he'll have a similar role.

.....Oh. In that case -- agreed. Even though to a certain extent I do feel as if Starbury's tendency to alienate his team, his coaches, and his fans has been stretched by the media as a NY tabloid story.

With all the stories that have followed him throughout his career I doubt there's too much exaggeration. If it were isolated incidents earlier in his career then maybe, but there's too many former colleagues telling the same story.

Then again...Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas aren't known as particularly player-lovable coaches.

Flip Saunders and Mike D'Antoni don't have similar reputations though and it's not just the coaches we're talking about here. At this point in his career, with all that's happened and all the stories that have been told, it doesn't seem like much fabrication has taken place.
