kinda funny that when I signed him to the Celtics in 2k9 the game automatically gave him #8 as well
EDIT: i got the celtics newsletter today, it said he will be wearing #8, I didnt actually look at Robert's link.

oh well, let the ride begin
Opinions are my own.

Interesting to see how it turns out. Hopefully the Celtics made it clear to him that he's not going to be their "go-to" guy.

Let the experiment begin, best of luck to both sides. If he can make it through the remainder of the regular season without pulling the same old stunts, I think that will be a decent measure of success.

The stephon signing is great for the celtics! They have a good scorer and a nice passer, now teams are going to have a lot of trouble against a good gaurd in rondo, and a very good gaurd in marbury. Its good to see garnett and marbury back together again. But the celtics still need a better forward than mikkie moore, he isn't enough but, i guess thats the best thing the celtics could do. I don't think now that anybody in the west can beat boston, i thought the lakers or the spurs especially the lakers would win it all, but now because of marbury i'd have to say the celtics. But pierce still needs help at the small forward spot. Are there though any other quality big men that the celtics could have signed that are in the free agent market?

There won't be enough chance for him to screw up the rest of the team. If he plays well, then it benefits the Celtics. If he stinks it up and complains, the Celtics will just bench him and just go back to whatever they were doing the whole season.

If he does pan out for the Celtics, that'll be pretty damn scary.

At this point I'd say Rondo is more valuable than Marbury, so I'd suggest you've got it backwards there. I don't think Marbury makes them unbeatable by any stretch of the imagination, as Adrian Wojnarowski wrote in his column his not a career winner by any stretch of the imagination and the Lakers in particular have been playing too well this year (even putting aside their season series victory over the Celtics) not to be given a chance to beat the Celtics, Marbury or not. The Celtics already have a better power forward than Mikki Moore, too. His name his Kevin Garnett and he'll be back in time for the Playoffs where he's likely to be playing 40+ minutes a game.

But that's what's been said every time he joins a new team and it's turned out to be the same old story. One would certainly think (and hope) that being on a contender and having a chance to resurrect his career would allow him to develop a different mindset but he's only human after all and as a species we tend to get stuck in our ways, especially when we can't or won't see where and how we've been at fault in times past. Let's give it some time, we need to let the "Honeymoon" period end because the fallout won't occur straight away.

Having said that, it was a good debut for Marbury, effectively slotting into the role that was expected of him and so far he's been saying the right things. Like I said if they can get through the final couple of months of the regular season without incident then things are looking pretty good and I'll certainly put up my hand and admit I was wrong, that he's at least been able to avoid self-destructing in the short term. But at this point I think being skeptical is certainly justified given his past,

Of course, I don't think anyone would argue against that, as Marbury just seems like a big experiment for the Celtics at the moment.

I would like to see Marbury playing well again, although I am also skeptical just like most of people. Let's just hope he's a changed man.

This is a terrible move that will likely be the difference that helps the Cavs and/or Lakers over the top this year. Just because he was good a few years ago and was available does not a good signing make. It won't make a huge difference, but Marbury's presence is just enough to muck up the superb guard rotation.

Don't let an incendiary 8 points in 13 minutes performance fool you.

Ha! I thought Steph was a changed man when he first joined the Knicks. There's a reason teams eventually tire of his act - why would it be different here?

Being a Celtic hater, I hope this experiment blows up in their faces.

That is the saving grace of the move for the Celtics though, if it fails it's no issue for them to sever ties with Marbury.

Which would be kind of a shame as it would likely overshadow another Celtics' title win rather than merely being a "subplot".

Does this mean the Celtics are going to turn to shit again?

I suppose since Marbury won't be the starting PG, he won't be as much as a focal point, which could dull his somewhat kryptonite effect he has on teams. I'll be interested to see how this works out as well.

Marbury would just play the same role Cassell did last year for Boston =\

That's what reduces the risk for Boston, if he doesn't work out they can cut him and move on. His ability to "destroy" the team has perhaps been exaggerated but by the same token so has his ability to help them. Yesterday Jalen Rose was praising the move no end on ESPN, all but suggesting the Celtics are guaranteed to repeat and that Marbury's past problems are irrelevant.

That's the whole point. He wasn't brought in to be the star or even a starter, that's Rondo's role.

It was one game. He hasnt played in almost a year, he's backing up a superior player. Should I go on? If you're expecting him to get 40+ minutes per game, then you are going to be ridiculously disappointed.
