Hornets trade Chandler to Thunder (Trade Rescinded)

The New Orleans Hornets and Oklahoma City are closing in on a deal that will send center Tyson Chandler to the Thunder, according to NBA front-office sources.

Two sources with knowledge of the trade parameters told ESPN.com that the deal is likely to be completed later Tuesday.

Although the entirety of the package New Orleans would receive for Chandler was not immediately known, ESPN.com reported early Monday that the Hornets -- who are looking to move Chandler mostly for financial reasons -- were in talks with the Thunder on a trade that would net the expiring contracts of forwards Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox.

The Thunder also possess numerous draft picks to sweeten trade packages, including five first-round picks in the next two drafts.

No you haven't ... its been confirmed on nola.com and espn.com ... and its just a fucking awful trade. I don't mind trading Chandler. I don't mind trading him for Wilcox and Smith. They are not great, but at least they are big men. But what I do fucking mind is not getting a first round draft pick in return, but rights to some scrub 2nd rounder ... GRRR. We just got hosed on this one ... DAMMIT.

Pardon my french ... but I feel robbed right now and can't really express in that way on the Hornets message board :D.

 Wow, I'm shocked. I was hoping those trade rumors were false. I really liked the Paul - West - Chandler trio.
Hornets' season is over. Another bad decision from the front office. Aside from drafting Paul, every decision Bower has made has had negative consequences: Signing Peterson to a bad contract, Signing Posey to a bad contract and yes, signing Stojakovic (who wasn't going to get any younger) to a hughe contract. And don't forget that Bower couldn't find a good rebounding big man to come off the bench without trading their starting C.

Yuck...

At the Hornets' Tuesday morning shootaround in Oklahoma City, West told the New Orleans Times Picayune that he was hoping his team would resist the trade interest in Chandler.
"I don't know if that's somebody we can afford to lose,'' West told the newspaper. "So I'm not sold on that idea. You just don't find a 7-foot-1 athlete like that and he's the only 7-footer we have. Especially if we're planning on making a run into the playoffs, we're going to need size to compete with Portland, San Antonio and the Lakers. I'm not sure that would help us.''

Your 2010 Oklahoma City Thunder:

C: Tyson Chandler
PF: Blake Griffin
SF: Jeff Green
SG: Kevin Durant
PG: Russell Westbrook.

That's a scary starting 5. If they could all play for the entire 48 minutes, then the Thunder would be going deep into the playoffs.

i forgot Russell Westbrook played for the Thunder. They're starting to become interesting. May be I should use them in my 2K9 association instead of the 'cats.

Not in '10, but in a couple years if things pan out injury wise, and for their bench, they could be pretty good.

the way tyson chandler was playing its not a MASSIVE steal, but he is a still a solid inside presence.

Cap relief aside, this just doesn't strike me as a good deal for the Hornets. I guess everyone wants to take their chances with 2010 and the economic situation is going to lead to cost cutting and belt tightening but from a pure basketball point of view, just not a good deal for the Hornets to make. Great move by the Thunder though, they clear the logjam and trade up, without having to give up a first round pick.

Chandler was always injured anyways, so I don't blame them....although they admittedly overpaid for Stojakovic & to a lesser extent Posey, which doesn't help matters....

I guess this means that Sean Marks probably won't be playing as many minutes at C & PF positions, which is a shame, as he's starting to do alright (N)

I'd agree with the others though, the Hornets should've at least been able to scoop one of the Thunder's lower 1st Round picks in the deal....either way, Presti is doing well....shame this wasn't happening in Seattle (N)

There apparently were concerns with the long time health of Chandler. The Hornets got burned before by Grandma Johnson, Baron Davis and especially Jamaal Mashburn on that front ... so cutting their losses now, when Chandlers trade value is probably at its peak sounds like a decent idea.

However ... I am still pissed, that they couldn't get Presti to throw in one of the 5 :!: first round picks he has over the next two drafts. Like I said before ... I don't mind trading Chandler, and I think Smith and Wilcox are decent pickups, what makes this deal flawed is the picks ... or lack thereof.

If they trade for one of the Clipps Centers they will be in the same situation as with Chandler... So it makers no sense to trade fot them

Even thou Hornets got solid players with Smith and Wilcox, there both power fowards (both 6-10). Who will be the center? Hilton Armstrong? He's a solid player, but in the Playoffs...nada. On the other hand, Joe Smith is a veteran and he brings tons of experience to this ballclub and Chris Wilcox is a great player, if he would get more playing time (David West is a bit better :D). And Chandler is having a injury-full season, so he hasn't made much impact this year.

And this trade most likely was just to clear their salary cap because of the economy crisis.
(Sorry for my bad English) :D :D :D

The Hornets probably just want to clear some cap space, both Wilcox and Smith have expiring contracts. And from next season Paul's salary will be much bigger than now.

Wilcox has pottential and I think he might become a useful player with Paul as his point guard. Smith is an experienced veteran and he can also play some solid minutes as a role player.

But now the Hornets don't have a decent s5 center. As someone mentioned, Wilcox and West both are power forwards and they're not great defenders either.

The Thunder have picked up a good defender who will help them on the boards and defensive end for sure. He isn't good on offense, but the Thunder don't really need a scorer, so I think it's a good trade for them.

CP should really be disappointed with management. Him and Chandler were close buddies and they played great together.

TheBigEasy-
Chandler was hardly at his peak this year. that was 2 years ago probably. that's a pretty big slap to Chandler's face though- getting traded for expiring contracts. apparently Hornet management thinks Chandler's production was a direct a result of Chris Paul awesomeness instead of Chandler's "improvement" or "skill"

i think Tyson will get eaten up in OKC. he thought West was chump on defense- meet Jeff Green who has the size of a SF. the young-ins he will play with can score but not every pass he get will be an alley oop. Chandler still can't finish in traffic and is very robotic when he has the ball.

i think it's a bad trade for OKC but at least they didn't give up their 1st round pick
