There was some talk ESPN Radio a while ago where Mark Cuban rejected the trade from the Clippers of Baron Davis and Chris Kaman for Jason Kidd,How could he deny that! THAT'S THE BEST TRADE DALLAS WILL GET FOR WHAT THEY HAVE RIGHT NOW!!!!

Jason Kidd is in the final year of his contract for Dallas at roughly $21 million. Camby has another year to go with his contract and Baron Davis has like a 5-yr deal with the Clippers.

It seems that Cuban wants as much salary cap space as possible for the Free Agency this off-season (or the 2010 offseason), because with Kidd, Dallas has like 5 other players who'll be free agents at the end of this year. As of now, Dallas is near $35 million over their cap room, and they'll be able to cut about $26 million of that off assuming Cuban doesn't want to resign anyone.

It's pretty obvious that Dallas most likely won't make the Post-Season, so there's no point in trying to spend more money. The best way is to start fresh, trade for 1st round picks, young players with upside, and expiring contracts and get ready for the 2010 free agency.

Dallas is doing good 31-21 and currently in 7th and I am sure they'll make the playoffs unless Mark Cuban messes it up or injury happens to Dirk. I am just wishing Dirk doesn't get involved with Jinxdrew's Karma.

Starting fresh is good but Dirk isn't getting any younger. If Mavs wants to keep Dirk, that might not be a good idea. Kaman and Baron definitely could upgrade the team, and if I was Cuban, I'd have taken it.

He's obviously more interested in trimming the payroll and making a run at the free agent class of 2010 though that would've been a good deal to make. It probably would've been less of a risk to make the trade though, I just have a feeling that most of the stars are going to stay put in 2010 and a lot of teams that are clearing space are going to miss out.

A lot of teams probably also think that a lot of players will opt to stay put, but with the free agent pool of 2010, you can't not try.

As a GM I'd rather clear the space and have the money than to have not tried at all. But yes, a lot of teams will be disappointed no doubt.

Of course, there is nothing wrong to chase something big, but I agree with Andrew that it'd have been rather safer to get Davis and Kaman. That is undoubtedly a sweet deal. I think Baron himself alone is a better player than Kidd at the moment and Kaman as a bonus? You get two upgraded starters at the cost of one declining star. If this news is true, another miss call by Cuban. Dirk has been phenomenal as usual this year, but I don't think he should be too happy about a record. Why not do some favors for your franchise player right now before he gets too old rather than taking a bigger risk.

True...nothing ventured, nothing gained. All the same, if a good deal is right there on the table should you really pass it up for a what-if, especially when there's still another season before all those players are available? At least have a plan B, especially with Nowitzki also able to opt out in 2010.

Also very true, but I don't see Dirk going anywhere. Cuban and him share too good of a rapport I think.

I still think its a good trade, I'm with Andrew, I think a lot of teams are trying to clear cap space and in the end will only be left holding their dicks. Think about it you screw over two or more seasons in anticipation of 2010 and what happens if you don't get anything.

It could be worse of course, if nothing else those teams will have cleared cap space and should be able to come up with a plan B but some of them might be scrambling to do so. The Knicks' future right now seems to be completely tied up in LeBron and co testing the free agent waters that year, but even if they were to miss out on LeBron they'd have a shot at someone else and would've cleaned up a huge mess that previous regimes had created or at least contributed to.

With everything Ferry has done to make Cleveland better, it sure would suck major nads to see BronBron elsewhere. I'd geuinely feel bad for Ferry and Cleveland.
