All-Star Friday 2009

Postby Andrew on Sat Feb 14, 2009 6:43 pm

Pretty good start to the 2009 All-Star Weekend in my opinion. The celebrity game was fun enough due to the antics of the Harlem Globetrotters taking part and it was about as serious as it needed to be. It was also cool to see a few former NBA stars in there though it was kind of painful watching 'Nique jack up some of those shots; the mind was willing, but the legs and the shooting touch weren't being co-operative. I was hoping he would throw down at least one dunk though much the same as he did in the 3-on-3 contest in 2003, that would've been something to see if he could have pulled that out of the bag at age 49. In the end it was alright though, good enough for what it was.

The Rookie Challenge was one of the best in years though, you still had players trying to get a little fancy which is fine in a game like that but I really enjoyed the competitiveness of the game too. It really seemed like both teams wanted to put on a show but also wanted to win and compete from the opening tip. Durant's record setting performance was impressive in the context of an All-Star event, it's a shame a couple of those late threes didn't go down and he didn't break 50. A shame Oden couldn't take part though.

I still think it's too early to say that, also Grant Hill had six impressive years before his chronic injury problems struck.

I would've liked more if the Rooks had won. Really disappointed about Rose's performance. Happy for KD for his record.

Looking forward for All-Star Saturday :)

I just saw the Rookie game ... good game actually. But what I really enjoyed was LeBron as a commentator in the first half. Usually I don't like him that much for some reason, but here he was really good. And he was knowledgable. Sometimes the others were wondering how he knew this stuff, without having notes infront of him ... I just thought "well guys, if you keep using the same phrases over and over and over again in your broadcasts, of course somebody picks up on them. Throw a couple of them out there, and usually most of it sticks for every player you are talking about" ... sure knowing Durants shooting percentages on top of his head is not just throwing phrases out there, but still .. :D It was fun ...

Good to see Durant schooling the kids.

Shame Oden couldn't play. That was a big let down. I am just wishing he ain't gonna be next Kandi Man. Really!!!

I somewhat expected Rose to perform better as well.

Same here, but you could watch the ASW on internet, e.g. you could try www.justin.tv , I think there will be quite a few channels that will show the events.

I really enjoyed that too, it was a nice change of pace to have a couple of current players (LeBron in the first half, Gasol in the second) doing some guest commentary on the game.
