Just wow, I never thought he would admit it.
"Back then, [baseball] was a different culture," Rodriguez said. "It was very loose. I was young, I was stupid, I was naïve. I wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time.

"I did take a banned substance. For that, I am very sorry and deeply regretful."

Better to admit it than deny it. The young ang stupid card does wonders.

Oh yeah, of course he only used it in Texas because of "pressure". He already had the Arlington effect behind him, and it's funny how all that pressure disappeared once he went to New York.

He'll still probably be the greatest player of the generation, but I think Griffey Jr. owns the untarnished version of that now.

Former pro wrestler and Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura is claiming Bud Selig should be indicted the same way Vince McMahon was in the early 90s, pointing out if McMahon can be indicted over steroid use in professional wrestling which is not a real sport then Selig should be indicted over the steroid use that has taken place under his watch (Story @ Fox Sports). Of course, with McMahon there was also the allegations that he was illegally distributing steroids to his employees which as far as I'm aware isn't the case with Selig, it's simply something that's happened during his tenure as commissioner.

Bottom line: Would you care if a policeman, fireman, doctor, teacher or astronaut were using an illegal substance. I know I would and all of those professions, along with a professional athlete were titles that I aspired to be when I was a kid. If it's wrong for the former, it should be wrong for the later. I have two kids now, and what am I supposed to tell them when they watch a guy "break" a record by cheating. If I condone it in sports, then I can't deny it in say, school. When I was a kid, those issues were nonexistent. If a guy was caught using, he was in big, big trouble. Consequences make for better competition, and better role models. And that spiel about how athletes use to "even the playing field" is nonsense. The playing field would be equally "evened" if there were more drug screens and stiffer penalties for those caught cheating. I just find it difficult to watch a game and always wonder "I wonder if that guy made that tackle or hit that homer because he was on something, or simply because he's talented." Too bad I'll never know.
