add own nicknames in the game

Can I add new nicknames to the game?? I want to change Penny Hardaway to Anfernee Hardaway and give him Penny as nickname!!

I opened the nicknames.dbf and added a line with Penny on it and a new number etc and also changed the players.dbf like it normally should be, but in the game there is no nickname!

Can someone explain to me how to get it to work??

I made a list of the 195 nicknames that are assigned to ID's but there doesnt seem to be an easy way to add your own nicknames this time around. Some interesting ones on the list not used in the game. This might be of some use to folks for creating there own players or whatever:

you can use nicknames with created players but not with patched players. I had a player with that had a nickname as soon as I created a cyberface patch for him and changed created=f in the dbf the nickname no longer worked
i've tried using the "audionick" field which they have left in the dbf (last year's nicknames were in the audionick field) and still no results.
it should be as easy as changing the number in the nicknameid but nothing happens.
and I'm tired of hearing number this of that when we should be able to use the nicknames.

btw has anyone noticed the squiggly symbols in the id7 field for created players, wasn't it always empty for created players?
