Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

If you have ideas pertaining to a reimaging of the site, feel free to contact me (email/PM at first please)
Consider this a collective brainstorm.

Let us bump this. Since I need to relaunch and reimagine it yet again.
How does the site need to be reworked? Should it merely provide patch hosting for the entire community (we have 1TB of bandwidth a month of which less than 1% get used)? Should we make it a news repository? Dynasty journals?
Should it just go away and leave things to NLSC, FileFront, RapidShare, etc.?

News and dynasty journals, though you do not personally use them, are always a good way to bring in and keep members. The site can coexist with the NLSC, since this place is down half the time during the playoffs, and it extends to 2K. It is really a shame that 2K9 won't be coming to PC.
I would recommend making some actual forums so the members have something to do there. I'm not sure exactly what you want to make out of the site. A patch hosting database? An NLSC rival?
Depending on what you want, I believe I can actually be of some help, since I've ran sites.

i remember the old dotorg(y) as if it were yesterday. I remember I liked the graphics at the forums with the different players. with all that space, it could easily be a patch hosting site (even though patching isn't near at its popularity as it was back in the day) but it could host some healthy alternatives to the NLSC.
with your stat crunching, you could probably post some interesting articles on different aspects/players in the NBA. for example, recently your posts about Kirk Hinrich vs. Chris Quinn was an interesting argument and the All-star comparision was fun to read too.

Whatever people think we need, and NLSC cannot/will not do.
I suggested patch hosting because of NLSC's issues in that regard, and our essentially unlimited resources. And I don't know if the way the NLSC is setup (information repository) if it would pursue providing dynasty blogs. (In contrast to forum threads.)
Where the community "leaders" want it to go will determine what software choices I make to run it.
Oh, and I'd be open to letting lots of people "run" it. I don't want to actually run anything, I've always wanted to pursue a "user generated"/"Web 2.0" model for it.

Agree with QBaller.
Dynasty blogs would be a good use of the space. Especially the long and graphic heavy ones. A reliable forum is something that can be provided as well.

Dynasty blog, interesting. Using HTML maybe instead of the current PHPBB code or whatever NLSC is running on at the moment. Would allow more flexibility with regards to layouts for dynasties. I'm all up for it.

I like that idea.

I like that idea.
2nd that, even though that is what you were kinda shooting for as is.
If I ever was going to get back into patching I was going to host it at your site and link to it from here since people bitch endlessly about filefront.
With the season starting up, it would be a perfect time for you do to news stories with all your stat stuff.
A true web 2.0 style would be a great thing to pursue if possible and I think another forum would be good as well. BUT, I dont even know why the last forum died (and I miss the old old forum because I need some resources on live 2004)
Sooo, yea, I think you should redesign your current site as is right now (maybe just customizable color schemes). Promote the fact that anyone who signs up can post news, get some articles up yourself then spread the word and whatnot at OS, mixmakers, sportsgamer, pastatown wherever the fuck else. Convince some of the "older" experienced members here to post / comment. And for sure find a way to let people run a HTML or more advanced dynasty. Keep filehosting/older live patches.

With that much bandwidth, retaining the hosting service for patchers would be great. I don't have anything else to suggest at this time but the other ideas that are being floated in this thread sound pretty good to me.

Now that NBA 2k9 is coming out for PC, nbavg.org is a lot more relevant. I think it should offer similar to what NLSC offers, except more NBA 2k focused.
News, patch hosting, forums, articles.
You could even merge benjistats into the site as an added reference of interest for visitors, and also regularly update your rosters based on the benjistats you talk about in the articles you could potentially make. For me, it would be interesting how all your justified stats translates into ratings (NBA 2k / NBA Live) i understand.
I see nbavg.org as an alternative to NLSC, like it used to be. Except this time the 2 sites can focus more largely on different games, whereas before it was the same game.

Big Big Big Big Ben Benji Benjiver MC Benjiver Big Ben, Whats upp budy. I remember you from back in the days with the Microsoft inside drive basketeball. That was garbage or what I refer to as boo boo. Then We had NBA Live of course wich I will refer to as boo boo. Now we have NBA 2k9 which awesome and delightful to the land. It has blessed us from the curse of boo boo. Our ingreatful former slave owners and braingwashers have lost a hold on the market by puting out boo boo. Ea sports soon will need a government bail out. I could see the headlines for producing boo boo, ea sports is cutting 200 jobs and will only have 3 employee Tim Lutz, the graphic dude and boo boo. However don't hang your heads down to low because the world has been shook up in the first round. Oh yes it was a one hitter quitter and we now have a new. a new, a brand new A double s spanking Champee yon of the NBA Basketball World. Introducing to some and presenting to others the Undisputed Heavy Weight Champion of the World: NBA 2k9! ...................................
Thank you and everyone else who is envolved in getting a new site that is dedicated to the Great NBA 2k9. Also big ups to Andrew for being a by partisan Human being and for not being a NBA LIVE whore monger. I have no talents that I can add to the new site, but I will pass the word in my part of the free, uncivil or unsanctioned world. All the bars, all the strip clubs, all the whole holes in the walls will know, without a shadow of a doubt that the new sherrif is in town. He the one with KG on the cover. I am my own faithful and true witness, that there is no other truth teller than me and anyone else who say anything other than what I say is a liar!
No more to boo boo and as Jim Rome, the Man of loosers and the somebody of nobodies would say, OUT!
That's really not a compliment and if you think so then you belong in Jim Rommey fan club.

Thanks for posting Blacksmurf. It's always good to see you come out of the woodwork to rant nearly incoherently.
