Haha, stupid Butch and his lame ass hairdo. I regret never killing him now...
Yeah, it's a good idea to keep a couple of separate saves just in case. I allowed the ghouls to take control of Tenpenny tower right after getting my suite there, but I didn't think they would actually slaughter everyone there, which meant that I would not be able to keep purchasing stuff for my suite from "Le Chic" (the "Lover" theme is pretty funny), so I decided to roll back to a previous save...

Meh, I never keep more saves per game. Its a world of consequences, whatever you do, It's done. You can't fix it. You won't be able to revert back and elect McCain, if Obama does something stupid.

Well, yeah, but one's real life and one's a video game. One has the luxury of being able to go back to an earlier point and do things over, no shame in doing that when it allows you to a) try out all the different things you can do without having to play through the game up to that point over and over again or b) restore from a recent point if you get completely stuck so you don't have to play through the whole game again.

I wouldn't do it in a sports game, if I lose a game then I lose a game but in a game like this where there's lots of different stuff to try and it takes a while to build up your character, explore the map and complete quests (equalling a lot of gaming time) then starting over from scratch is usually a last resort.

I got an off topic question. I was looking forward to the game before it launched, and then I heard bad things about it from friends such as bad combat, and inconsistent framerate (maybe just on PS3). But now I see all this hype about the game again, game of the year and such. So i dono what to think.

So question for those who have played the PS3 version, is it really that terrible? And for the general, is the combat really that unsatisfying? Like i don't expect it to be like CoD, I'll play it just because of the different pathways you can take (i loved Oblivion for the most part). But if the combat is really that brutal I dono if I could keep playing.

Dono whether I should rent it, see if i could borrow it from a friend (I don't like borrowing games from this guy though) or just buy it.

It obviously doesn't have the great FPS mechanisms that games like Far Cry 2 or CoD have, and combat can feel a bit awkward at first, but it really is not that bad once you start experimenting with different weapons. I haven't played the PS3 version, but I don't see why it would be so much different from the PC version in that regard.
If you liked Oblivion, chances are you'll enjoy F3.

The combat system takes a bit of getting used to but it's pretty good once you do, and you can always play it like a FPS here and there as well (not a bad idea when you're in an area with a lot of mines).

I've been playing around with a few of my saved games, going back to certain points and trying different paths just to see what happens (including blowing up Megaton) though having finished it and seen a few of the possible endings I still think I'll put it aside for a while...perhaps after I've tried out a few more things. ;)

I think I made a mistake by playing it for the second time right after I finished it the 1st time around. I should have waited a few weeks or months to play it again I think, since I ended up uninstalling it after getting the issue I mentioned a few posts above.
But it was just too good, I had to create a new character and try a different direction right away...

I think I'm definitely ready to put it aside for a bit. I've tried a few other things, blew up Megaton, got a couple of saves going where I'm on a bad karma path and also played through quest where you return to Vault 101 but I think I've finally had enough of it for a while. I probably finished it just in time though, what with the Anchorage DLC being released this week and further packs coming in February and March. I might give it a rest, download those when they become available and then play through them.

Downloaded Anchorage and gave it a quick look. Interesting, but considerably more difficult since you can't loot dead enemies and you start out with a silenced 10mm pistol. Cool concept though.

I ended up finishing the game at level 18, which really disappointed me. I think the next time I go through it, I'm not going to pay any attention to the main story until I've either reached 20 or I've felt like I've explored as much as I possibly can.

Good idea, I'm thinking of doing the same. It's worth exploring the Capital Wasteland and finding stuff you missed in the first play through and you get experience points for discovering new locations anyway.

I still enjoyed the first two games better (How I love Rose Tinted Glasses).

But I still think Bethesda did a solid job. Just finished killing everyone in Tenpenny Tower with the ghouls.

Plus we've got a whole bunch of mods that are going to come out which = EVEN MORE PLAYING TIME.

I'm playing on the 360 so I don't have the benefit of the unofficial add-ons but I'm looking forward to more official DLC.

I managed to use ENBseries to find a solution to make Fallout 3 look cool while not giving a FPS hit.

I'm using the special Nba Live 08 Enb, which has an effect ini file. I don't even use the ENBseries INI, just the effect INI to make it look like this.

No I am not using Bloom or HDR on the right.

Cool effect but I'd prefer the original myself.

Re: Fallout 3

Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:49 am

Yeah, there's a lot of mods that completely change the overall color pattern of the game and I think they don't necessarily do any favor for the game's ambiance. The original greenish/brownish one is quite amazing, and when combined with some mods that add sharper, hi-res textures replacements, it's just hard to ever press "exit" in this game...

Re: Fallout 3

You guys might not like it but I LOVE IT!!!!

1) It gives a good alternative to FPS killers.

2) The night and tunnels are much more realistic. I constantly find myself using the pipboy light because it's extreamly dark, it always keeps me on my toes.

I see where you're coming from and like I said, it's a cool effect but I'd still prefer the original. To each their own. :)

Why can't I use my wireless logitech controller in this?

Re: Fallout 3

Seems a lot of ports these days leave a lot to be desired.

I've been running through another playthrough recently, focusing on doing all the side missions and exploring places I missed in the first playthrough. Once you rescue your father, it's as good a time as any to stop the main quest, leave him in Rivet City and get back to exploring and side quests.

Yeah, it definitely goes pretty fast after you've gone to Rivet City and chosen to continue with the main quest.
Sadly, there's no way to know that unless you've completed the game once. The ending especially took me by surprise...

Re: Fallout 3

I was hoping for an Oblivion-like ending, where you could continue to do side quests after the main quest. What was funny wasMoira or whatever her name is in Megaton, you can still do her quest when she becomes a ghoul if you blew it up.

Yeah I noticed that too, which is handy. You miss out on some other stuff though so if you do decide to do that it's important to finish up your business there first.

An open-ending with side quests intact would've been nice. I did read that the ending is supposedly not canon though and that one of the DLC packs will offer the true ending, though that might have just been a rumour.

Having played most of Fallout series from day 1, this is somewhat disappointing that they completely deserted retro look and feel of the game. I'm not saying Fallout 3 was disappointing, but I hope Bethesda will also continue to make series that are somewhat similar to previous sequels.
