I think the insecurity thing comes into play when you look at what kind of tattoo it is. if ít's like a face of johnny cash on someone's arm, it's not likely connected to insecurity. but if it's a kind of tattoo that is supposed to make the bodypart it's on look better, then it could very well be insecurity related.
and speaking of tattoos. doesn't the mouth on k-mart's (funniest nickname ever) neck look pretty gay?
Well NBA players have a big chance to show their tattoos to everybody so it makes sense to have tattoos with this kind of job. Why do you need a tattoo if you cannot show it to anybody.
But looking at the coke sniffing dunk contest looser and the other guy who really no one gave anything about until he tried to change his style I guess that tattoos may be a sign of insecurity.
I was curious about the reason for this specific type of self expression. that that's what it is is rather obvious. I wanted to know the why. not the what.
if nba players start sporting lip and eyebrow piercings and wearing scarfs or some other shit during the game, we can talk about that then. but I was just wondering about tattoos for now.
It could be a sign of insecurity but probably no more so than a piercing or some other fashion statement.
Exactly. What about all the players who shave their head. Many of them may be getting the receding hairline problem so they rather shave it all (I remember Barkley was the first one being vocal about this), wouldn't that be insecurity as well? You can generalize that concept to many looks and visual expressions.

seeing as all people are basically the same, I guess a lot of things I say can be considered as generalisations. doesn't make them any less true or fitting though.
