Well I obviously haven't posted here in about a month, and I haven't dieted for about a month. I don't know I'm upset cause of my body and I'm disgusted looking at myself and I'm so unhealthy, but I lack the consistency to continue going, and the motivation. I don't know whats wrong with me, I'm going to try to diet again tomorrow but I need to stick with it. I feel like such a failure.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Either you do it, one hour a day, 3 days a week, or you keep moaning about how out of shape you are. Pick one.

I think it's Doobie's self-loathing that's setting him back. Until he learns to appreciate himself, even his fat self, there's no progress for him even if he tries.

Doobie, I think if you got someone to diet with you or exercise with you, it would keep you motivated.

January 13th 2009

I went up to 227 now. I really don't understand how, still no soda or shakes. I have gone to taco bell twice but I've kept my eating habits under control. I haven't really excersised much either I'm getting too that again tomorrow. I'm kind of dissapointed but I will keep trying, I've been eating better and less food as of late but I don't know what's going on. Tomorrow I will begin using my APP on my phone called Lose it. Its a calorie counter, how many calories should I consume per day? It also told me if I lost 2 pounds per week I will achieve my goal on June 22nd, my goal is July 1st. Any advice? And I need some heavy cardio I can do at home, cause the Gazelle for 45 minutes doesn't really work.

- How many hours a day do you sleep?
- Heavy cardio at home? Buy a treadmill. Not an option? Join a fuckin' gym.
- Taco Bell? Seriously? Seriously?

Seriously?!

Listen, I've pretty much given up on you...but here's another idea for you to try out. Try eating "clean" during the weekdays and you can eat "unclean" on the weekends. This is a smaller and much more achievable goal for you. Don't pig out though, be normal for fucks sake.

It's really simple, eat enough, eat healthy, have your heartrate at an elevated level for atleast half an hour a day (if you want to lose weight, you should atleast do an hour for you to actually vaporize fat cells) and sleep enough.

Find a balance in your life before you hit an age where your metabolism will work against you and you'll be an obese person for the rest of your life with a clogged heart & other ailments to worry about. You don't want that, do you?

What do you use as motivation by the way?

I question my motivation sometimes, I just want to be the way I was and live a healthier better lifestyle. I want to be better for myself and get back into basketball shape. Money doesn't grow on trees Jackie, I can't afford a treadmill nor a subscription to the gym, I am saving up on the gym one though, its 500 for a year.

You work on Wallstreet, have a big ass TV you plonk your ass in front of and eat the amount of junk food you eat...and can't find a cheap gym subscription?

Okay. Whatever you say Doobie, whatever you say. :|

Sadly, I pay rent and bills as well jackie, haven't started the job yet, and the tv was a gift from my mother.

You're right jackie, you are honest and blunt with some harsh words but I need to stop making excuses. I honestly can't afford a gym subscription or a treadmill. And it's really cold in the winter, but I will live off push-ups sit-ups and my gazzelle for now instead of watching tv all day. You are right. (Y)

One of my coworkers lost 20 pounds on nutri-system. She was always keen to tell us how much she lost everytime she lost some. Before the diet, she was a snacker. She had her bag of chips that she would periodically eat through. If you have ever seen obese people walking and eating or driving and munching, you know what I am talking about. She also had big meals because her boyfriend could cook. When she went on nutri-system, she ate smaller meals, but more frequently.

So instead of 3 big meals, replace them with 4 to 6 smaller meals. This way you are eating more frequently, and with that, your body will increase it's metabolism. Add a workout routine, whether it be jogging or basketball or weight lifting, or a combination.

The reason you may have gained weight is that you are eating less, or "under control" as you put it. When you do this, you starve the body, so it holds on to what it needs, and slows your metabolism, causing weight gain. Not to mention that you are putting off your exercises, just like your body is putting away the fat so it can use it another day.

Here's a cardio/pilates video you can go along with, it's 50 minutes long, let the ad play at the beginning.

Insert some squats in your routine. It's guaranteed to get your heart rate up. The number of reps is up to you, as long as you do it to a point where you can feel the need to really breathe hard or how much you legs can take it, then you can stop.

Start with the squat to jump start "the burn" of your routine. You can also add a minute or 30 seconds of continuous jumping jacks with the ball of your foot the only one touching the ground. You can insert those two between your push-ups and sit-ups to ensure that you maintain your heart rate at an elevated level as Jackal said.

You can do that squat form or you can raise your hands sideways while you go down. You can also put your arms behind your head. Your choice, just make sure your back and legs are in proper form like in the pic.

Judging by your porn thread, here's motivation.

Jackie, honestly I aprreciate you being on my ass about this, especially you being in this position yourself. I am back down to 222 now and I realized that I have to do this now before its too late for me. I got the best years of my life ahead of me, I'm only 19 I don't want to die young. I have maintained a strict diet since Sunday and I am planning to keep it that way. I am going to start excersising today, and starting tomorrow I am going to wake up earlier. Waking up at one in the afternoon just destroys my balance. Thank you all for advice, I won't let myself down. The first two are pics of me now( this morning as soon as I woke up.

This last one is me a year and a half ago (only full body pic I could find.)

I am being serious and you guys could say what you want. Advice is always accepted, so is negative criticism. I am achieving my goal for myself only and I won't let what anybody says bring me down. I am 222 in the first two pics, I was 190 in the last one.

One question? About how many calories SHOULD I consume a day to have a succesful diet? Combine it with exercise and stuff. As soon as it gets warmer out I will start jogging every morning for atleast half an hour to an hour. Maybe take a day or two off a week. As of now its in home exercises and Gazzelle while I watch TV.

Thanks Pdub that site helped a lot man.

So it says I should eat 2700 calories a day but to lose weight I should consume 500 less. I am eating 2000 a day and exercising. I am sore today from pushups but I am doing 30 mins on the Gazelle, sit-ups and squats. I am avoiding fried foods of all kinds and my meals are spread around 5 a day.

I suggest playing social/competitive sports....I have trouble motivating myself for exercise unless their some competition involved....good move to try & lose the weight before metabolism slows down....I'm quite a bit older than you & my metabolism has well & truly slowed & it is a lot harder....

but since the start of the month, I'm down 10 pounds, I'm playing competitive indoor soccer once a week, competitive basketball once a week, walking/jogging the dogs about 6 times a week, cutting out soft drinks (if I do have them, they are sugar free ones), cutting back junk food & trying to cut back on size of portions, & last but not least, dramatically cutting back my alcohol consumption....

it's not easy & you will have your setbacks, but you've just gotta keep with it....I've been at same weight the last week as my body seems to be rejecting losing more weight & holding onto it, but if I keep at it, weight will slowly continue to drop....

but yep, my suggestion is competitive sports (and no, not baseball, more like squash, tennis, indoor soccer etc)....and cutting back on alcohol....and eating better....all basic stuff I guess....

Just what X said. Im far away from fat, but every winter when there is a two month break in the soccer season I start to gain about 4-5 pounds and I just cant get them away until soccer training starts again. Those individual sports do not have any motivation, especially if you wanna loose weight instead of build up muscles.

Playing soccer - or in your case - basketball, gives you more than one reason for working out. Meeting guys, having fun playing and whilst doing that, loosing weight. Further its just a regular work out. You cant say "I dont want to play today" since your team mates are expecting that you come to play.
