FPS About Right?

Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:44 am

I am running NBA 2K9 on my XPS 1530 laptop and get about 25-35 FPS during gameplay...all maxed including player models. Crowd at medium. Here are my specs:

XPS M1530
2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
nVidia 8600gt 256 MB video card
Windows Vista Business

Is 25-35 FPS about right? Some guys have said they get upwards of 60 fps with similar specs. I understand it is a laptop but my core temps usually get up to about 88 and I always get the same performance in game. It feels like something is holding it back. Is there anything that can be done to improve my framerate, if possible?

your graphic card doesn't have enough memory (only 256MB). Processor and RAM are fine (Y)

that's only my opinion

you're false. on my 8800 GTS 320MB works everything on high and player models very high 1650×1050 and 8× anisotropic

but that 512mb should be paired with a card that can tap that amount of vRAM (say 7900GTX/X1900XT and above)..and thats at higher resolutions too..otherwise, id go with graphical horsepower over vRAM (ie 8800GTS 320mb is better than a sub 8800 card with 512mb vRAM)

I see cards like the 7300GT, 8500GT etc with 512mb vRAM and i say WTF?!
