My good game

Postby Colin on Tue Jul 08, 2003 12:17 pm

This isn't exactly a franchise but I played a game on superstar today and actually did really well. The settings were, superstar of course, 6 minutes, offensive fouls at about 3/5 on the bar and Defnesive at about 2/5, all rules on. I was the lakers and played the Kings. Only difference in the rosters was that I (PF 89 ovrl, outside shooter) was on the Lakers as I thought it be impossible without someone else on the team. It started off really competitive and was within about 10 points (for me) the entire first half. But i exploded in the 3rd quarter and went up by 19. I was shocked at how easy it was, except for the free throws. Then in the 4th it got close, really close. My backups fucked the game up for me and I was up by only 6 points with 57 seconds left and Sac had the ball. Hedo Turkoglu (unstoppable) penetrated and got fouled and made 1 of 2 to make it a 5 point game with 43 seconds left. I grabbed the rebound and passed to Kobe who got trapped at half court and threw it to keon Clark who passed up to Mike Bibby who made a layup. 38 seconds left and I'm only up by 3. I take the inbounds and dribble up with me, my team passes it around getting it away from the double team for 15 seconds, than the ball comes to me and i shoot from 3, it goes in (a change from most stories.) Now we're up by 6 with 23 seconds left. Bibby comes in and makes a lay-in. We pass it way up the court to Kobe who gets doubled whcih leaves Fox wide-open for a lay-up. He makes it. Back up by 6 and Christie comes down and gets clocked by Fox, Kobe goes up and dunks. We're up by 8 with 9 secodns left. Peja comes up and misses a three, I get the board and dribble up without getting fouled, they were actually trying, and dribbled it out. We won. it was a very exciting game, the only downside was free throws.

I took a few pics but I can't get them smaller than the required 65K at elite data systems without loosing the information. But this is what was on them. I, as in me, had 41 points, 12 boards, shot 4-5 from 3pt land, and made 3-13 ft's, 80% from 3 and that from FT is one of those problems everyone experiences. Oh and I am rated 88 on three's and 85 on FT's. Chris Webber hacked me on almost all of those 13 ft's so he had 5 fouls and was not a factor with 4 points. Kobe had 17 and Shaq had 18. Shaq also had 15 boards, and we out rebounded them somehting like 42-12 by getting 20 offensive boards. There's another problem EA has to fix. That's it for my long post. I might even post about a few more games I play.[/img]

Nice report Colin. :) I too find Superstar to be a good challenge - but simply too frustrating when it comes to free throws.

Agreed there Andrew. I mean, something's gotta give. In order for you to face challenging games, you gotta shot like 45% on free throws... That's what happens to me in my Cavs franchise. (N)

I have to say, for me FTs in superstar aren't that big problem...really....i have games sometimes with 12/15 or I even remember a game where I shot 18/19. Normally I'm above 70%! :D

Dunno, I'm shooting 43% on my franchise... On the 4th, they seem easier to hit, though.

I have a new least favourite Live player...Chris Whitney.

I was playing an all-star game in my franchise (same rules as above, but all-star diffuculty and 7 min. quarters,) here's a quick look at my fantasy draft Laker squad.
C - Tyson Chandler - blocks everything
PF - Tim Thomas - has range and quickness, ideal Live player
SF - Quentin Richardson - makes open shots, mostly quicker than opponents
SG - DMase - shoots about 75% because he only takes dunks on the break
PG - ME!!! - 92 overall (so I exaggerated on my strengths ) I'm a good shooter, lotsa assists, athletic, can't rebound, according to ratings can't block, but because of Live I lead the league with 4 blocks per game :D
No more descriptions
C - Eddy Curry
PF - Drew Gooden
SF - Tayshaun Prince
SG - Deshawn Stevenson
PG - Rafer Alston

PF - Lonny baxter
PG - Juan Dixon

Now, I almost never play, and in half my games I can't stop mediocre role players and quit. I've only played 10 games, and won them all. Although the hardest games have been against lower-half teams. I easily beat the only other unbeaten team, yet only won by 5 to the Andre Miller led 0-9 Warriors. The game I'm about to bitch about is against the Rockets. From what I can remember they're team is...
C-
PF - Eddie Griffin
SF - Rashard Lewis
SG - Cuttino Mobley
PG -Kenny Anderson
-::-Bench-::-
C - Todd MaCullogh
PG - Chris Whitney
PF - Edjuardo Najera - He was unstoppable on offense
some others who I've forgotten.

It was a close game throught out, within about 7-8 points most of the time, then I blew up in the third quarter and we were up by 23 points. Then my backups couldn't make layups and dunks and it was a 2 point game with 4 minutes left and I brought my starters back in. This lead was mostly gained by Chris "I scored 15 points in the 4th quarter, even though I only average 2.8 on the season" Whitney. Well he had a barrage of threes and hit about 3 in the 4 minutes with my subs on. Then I came back on and scored 6 straight points and dished twice to put us back up by 12 with about 2:30 left. I was feelin' good about myself. Then Whitney hits a three with the league leading blocker and Tim Thomas in his face. And then give it up to Cat who hits another, and then the lack of ability to throw a lob made DMase try to throw it through Rashard's chest who grabbed it and got a fast break dunk. 4 point game with 1:50 left. There's no scoring the next two possesions, then Chris Whitney hits another three and I call my second to last time-out with 1:20 left. I get it to Tim Thomas on the block who get an opportunity for a four point play, but misses the free throw. Then I block Kenny Anderson, who for some reason came back into the game at my TO over Chris Whitney whose circle was flashing more than a strobe light. And pass to DMase on the run who bricks the dunk. Now there's :45 left and it's a three point game for me. Kenny Anderson fakes me out i land on top of him for the foul and an opportunity to shoot 3 free throws. He makes them all. Now there's 0:35 left and I try to run down some clock and get the shot clock on my side so I can dribble the ball up court should they score. They're doubling whoever has the ball and I keep passing around then with 28 ticks left I'm wide open for three, 3-3 on the game and I brick it. I pause the game. I scream and yell into a pillow, very good muffler BTW. Then un-pause and watch them uselessly work the ball around the perimeter accomplishing nothing. Then they attempt a shot with 17 left on the shot clock, block, with 15 block, with 13 block, with 11 I foul them and they get an extra 3 ticks. BLAST. I bring out the pillow again. I yell. Pillow goes under the desk. I un-pause and they put the ball into Eddie Griffin with 8 left. 7 left, 6 left, 5 left, shoots blocked, I say Yes! The Desmond runs over the ball without grabbing an Cat grabs it. DAMN!!! 3 left he dribbles, 2 left he stops at the top of the key, and shoots, almost block it, but I don't. And it's nothing but net. I pause, fuck the pillow I run around stomping and screaming, yelling obscenities about everyone, then I bring my focus back to the guy who made the game close and yell about Chris Whitney. Then I go back and get angrier about not making my player be able to run up court, and about the ability to almost never pass it upcourt when your two players are waiting. So I pass to me the shot misses. I say, no way that bs will count and don't save. Some might say that's the cowards way out, but that stupid cpu is so stupidly stupid. If you read this whole post be proud of yourself. That's a lot of reading. Pat yourself on the back.[/b]
