Doc Rivers excited for the season, younger and improved Celtics
October 2nd, 2012, BOSTON

The Boston Celtics have moved on from Ray Allen's departure, they are now ready for training camp and their quest for Championship Banner #18. "It is sad, it hurts us that a friend, a brother, a family member is gone, lost. But we have got to move on, we got to focus on to the next season and put the past behind us." Coach Doc Rivers answered following the question on how he felt on Former Celtic Guard, now Heat Ray Allen's signing with their conference rival, Miami Heat.

And then Doc was asked about looking forward to the next season, "I'm excited, Paul's excited, everyone is. Especially with our current roster, Jeff (Green) and Chris (Wilcox) returning, and also acquiring The Jet, I'm excited. I feel like we can still compete and contend for a championship, but we all know it's a tough go with the Heat in our conference, the Atlantic's also tough. And out West, there's the Lakers and Oklahoma, don't forget San Antonio. It's tough like it always has been, but we'll get through, I know. But we're still in good shape for another title." he replied.

The Celtics have acquired former-Mavs, Jason "The Jet" Terry in FA and Courtney Lee in a trade during the offseason, both will be a good fit in Boston. The Atlantic sure is a division to watch, and people believe Boston is still a contending, elite team.

Rumor: Greg Oden reportedly interested to play with the Celtics and Cavaliers
Image

2007 Draft 1st Pick Center Greg Oden has been reported to have the Celtics and the Cavs as the 'apple of his eye'. The 24-year old big man told ESPN, "Man, I've been waiting on playing again. I have never been so anxious on being inactive, not playing for almost 2 years. No player likes to be injured for so long," he said.

Oden has missed the past two season due to a series of knee injuries. "If I am gonna make a come back, I'm eyeing to play with either of these teams: Miami, Cleveland and Boston. But my best choices are Cleveland and Boston, I wanna play with up and coming star point guards, like Kyrie and Rajon." he continued.

If Oden returns, for sure he won't be a starter, but he would be a huge impact in the paint and on the glass, and bring spark off the bench with his low post presence and rebounding. The Celtics will be on a lookout here for the needed size inside since Perkins left.

Celtics open season at home against Bynum, Philadelphia

Image

The Boston Celtics will face Andrew Bynum and the Philadelphia 76ers on the 1st of November, opening night. This game will be a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals, wherein the Sixers pushed the Celtics to 7 games, but the Celtics won the series and lost to Miami the next round, also, in seven games.

The Sixers have acquired Bynum, arguably the second-best Center in the present time, including G Jason Richardson, in a 4-team deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers and Bynum and Richardson to the Sixers. They (Sixers) also signed Nick Young during the offseason and has also acquired Forward Dorrel Wright from the GS Warriors.

Projected Starting Lineup for the Sixers

PG: Jrue Holiday
SG: Jason Richardson
SF: Thaddeus Young
PF: Spencer Hawes
C: Andrew Bynum

BREAKING NEWS: Oden set to return, joins Celtics

Image

BOSTON -- 24-year old Center Greg Oden set to return from injury signs a 5-yr contract worth $34.56M with the Celtics. Earlier this month, Oden considered returning, with either of these three teams: Miami, Boston and Cleveland. Now he has made his decision and signed with the Celtics, let us see his statement.

"Many of you guys are asking why I signed with the Celtics... well, I want a true point guard playing with me. I want to get better defensively and there is Coach Doc and KG by my side in Boston to guide and develop me into a much, much better defender. And I felt like, no matter how deep this Celtic team is right now, I feel like I'm the missing piece of this team. My size and low post presence which they have missed the past couple of years from Kendrick (Perkins) is what I have, and I'm willing to give it to them." he answered. " I'm ready to play again, I love basketball."

"Coach Doc told me when I told him we were gonna sign Greg that he'll limit Greg on the floor the first couple of games, then if he sees he's ready, he'll start him." Celtics GM Danny Ainge told the press during the introductory press. Ainge was asked why he signed Oden, "Like he said, we missed Kendrick, what he gave us in the post and his reboundings and efforts, we're gonna get it back through Oden. And I also felt it's time to start and build a younger team and still keeping our core in Rondo, Pierce and KG."

Oden, who has missed more than many games you can imagine throughout his career, is coming to Beantown and shall play the preseason and will officially return to action, on opening night, November 1st against Division rival, Philadelphia 76ers.

76ers upset Celtics' home-opener, win 63-61

Image

The Celtics lose their season home-opener losing by 2 against the 76ers. One of the newest Sixers acquisition G Jason Richardson and F Thaddeus Young lead the Sixers in a comeback win after trailing by 8 late in the third. Andrew Bynum added 8 points and 9 rebounds in their win. While the Celtics, they struggled to find their shot, only Brandon Bass seemed to find the bottom of the net.

The Celtics' scoring leader was Paul Pierce, 16 points, while making only 4 of his 21 attempts, but he made 7 free throws which made him have 16 points. Bass had 11 points and 9 boards and KG had 10 and 8, Rondo added 12 assists. Many didn't produce for the Celtics, Jason Terry only had 7 points in 2 for 5 shooting.

The game was tight the whole night until when the Celtics pulled off a 12-0 run midway through the third and ended the quarter 49-48, Sixers. Heading in to the fourth, the Celtics lead by at least 6 points in the final 2 minutes of the game, but the Sixers never did give up, Richardson hit two consecutive three-pointers to tie the game with less than a minute left. The ball is back at the hands of the C's, Pierce tried to do a stepback jumper but it went in and out, the miss was held by Bynum. 61 all with half a minute left, Bynum was posting up and Holiday dished the rock to him... the crowd was chanting defense the whole possession, Bynum was pushing Garnett to the rim, he faked to the left and hooked to the right and it went in, 63-61 Philadelphia. The crowd was silent and anxious as there was only 18.4 seconds left on the clock, and the home team was trailing by two. The Celtics will inbound the ball at the sidelines after the timeout, and they hit it to Pierce who consumed half the time left before making a move, he tried to post up and then drove to the hoop and put up a stepback J that bounced on the front iron as the buzzer sounded. The Sixers bench celebrated as they defeated their division rivals by two, while the Celtics bench and their home crowd was in defeat, heads down and anxiously walked away from the arena.

"I didn't know what happened, we were leading by at least five or six in the last two minutes and we still lost. It was all so fast, I can't believe it." Pierce said during the post game conference. "It was a nice game and all, but we lost and that's the bitter part of it. I'm definitely sure there's gonna be a lot of criticisms about us again this game, like: 'They're too old, they lost because they had no Ray Allen.' I don't like that, and to all of them, we're gonna prove them wrong." Garnett said.
"After the game, I already told myself I love Philadelphia, 'cause I already feel like we've played together before, it's like we had chemistry already." Richardson said.

The Celtics next game will again be at home against the Blazers.

Pierce, Celtics, bounce back against the Blazers

Image

The Celtics have won their first home and season win against the Blazers, winning by 10 points, 60-50. Pierce, who struggled from the field last game in their season opener loss against Philadelphia, scored 17 points and had 3 blocks. The Celtics lead most of the game, leading by 8 after three. LaMarcus Aldridge and Wes Matthews led the Blazers in scoring with 13 points each.

"It was not really a start you'd like to have in a season, but we managed to get the W. Our team is deep as usual, so it will be easier for us starters because we'll get enough rests in this grueling NBA Season." said Pierce who shot 8-19 from the field. Jason Terry once again struggled from the field missing 6 of his 7 shot attempts. Kevin Garnett has shown he still is not running out of gas, despite his age, as he scored 14 points and 14 rebounds. Rajon Rondo helped score 10 points and only managed to dish out 6 assists. "Like I said the other game, we're gonna prove our critiques wrong by telling that we are way too old to compete for a championship, and tonight, I just proved them wrong and it's gonna continue for the rest of the season, or at least, as long as I am here." Garnett told the Post-game Press.

Shawne Williams had a very terrible night despite scoring 9 points and grabbing 6 rebounds, he took many shot opportunities for his team as he took 18 shots and only managed to make 4 and shooting 14 shots behind the arc and making only 1. LA and Wes Matthews had 13 points each, LA also grabbed 8 rebounds and Matthews shot 3 treys. " I'm not a fan of blaming anyone for a loss, but Shawne totally let this game slip away for us. We were getting the touch during the 2nd quarter then he just jacked shots after shots, it's Kobe-like." Aldridge said after the game. His criticism on Williams is very unusual of him and we'll see later in the season how his comment will affect the team's chemistry.

The Celtics' next game will be on the road against the Pacers who are currently 0-2.

BREAKING: Terry, Green traded to Nets, Celtics get Wallace in return

ImageImage Image

This trade was a shocker! This wasn't even rumored to happen, but because a lot of people think that Terry wasn't a really nice fit in Boston and Green not producing well like Terry, the Celtics have decided to trade them to the Nets which includes a 2012 2nd round pick for Gerald Wallace. Terry wasn't really affected by the trade as he's only played 2 games with the team and he'd get to play with two other stars again and still can compete for a championship. But Green, on the other hand, was not happy of the trade, and in fact, he was actually mad at the team for trading him. The former-Net F/G Wallace was also surprised by the trade, but is ready to be a part of a new organization. The Celtics have gotten a solid scoring option and rebounder in Wallace, but they lost two main scoring options off the bench from Green and Terry. The winner of this trade: the Nets.

Trade Grades

Nets
A-
Nets get: Jason Terry
Jeff Green
2012 2nd Round Pick

The Nets have acquired a solid sixth-man, along with Marshon Brooks in Terry, although Terry is already aged 34, he still can produce at least 15 points a night and tehy have acquired a nice, versatile forward in Green. A pretty good starter in him and produce solid numbers too, especially with D-Will by his side and dish out the ball to him with him cutting.

Celtics
B
Celtics get: Gerald Wallace

The trade wasn't really that bad for both teams, but the loser here was the Celtics. They lost a 2nd Round Pick, although it's not really not that valuable but they need youth. Wallace is also turning 30 next season but he still sure will be an effective down the stretch. Maybe JT needed time to adjust, Green was also coming off from an injury too so he needed time to adjust, too. But let's see how this trade pans out for both teams throughout the season.

First team meeting (PT.I)

Sat Oct 20, 2012 12:58 pm

The day after the trade, Coach Doc called up a team meeting on his house, the players were the only ones allowed to come, that includes newly acquired Gerald Wallace. The players only had one thing in their minds: they were about to discuss new lineups, rotations and game plans for the future. The squad hasn't had a practice yet with the new team because they hadn't discussed their strategies yet.

"Alright, I'm glad everyone's able to come on this meeting I called early this morning. I guess you already know what this is all about, yes?" Rivers started the meeting, "This is all about our new roster, lineup changes and welcoming our new family member, Mr.Wallace, at least that's how I'll call you right now." Everybody clapped their hands, except for Bass, he wasn't really enthusiastic about the acquisition of Wallace. His mood wasn't happy, it wasn't sad either, it was more like he didn't want Wallace on the team. He was mad, not on Wallace though, no one knows yet. "Good morning, to you folks. You're gonna be my teammates now, I'm glad to be a part of this team and I'm excited on how I can help you guys on winning a championship." Wallace introduced. Wallace wasn't the only one excited, almost everyone was because they felt even stronger now, more confident on winning the crown.

"Alright, chitchat's enough right now, you'll get to talk later after this meeting. So, let's begin with our starting lineups. It was hard to do, a lot of you guys are good and t'was real hard to adjust your minutes. But I'm telling you there are lots of changes." Rivers began, whispers can be heard at the meeting table. "So what're the changes?" Rondo eagerly asked. "Your minutes have increased, I'd expect you to be happy. Paul, you're moved to the 2 spot, your original position before Ray--" he suddenly stopped, the thought of Allen made him sad, but he continued, "Before Ray was traded here in Boston, you'd get the second most playing time, Paul. Gerald will still be playing a Small Forward, that's where he's best at, that's where he's playing." "But, Doc, I'm kinda old now, I can't compete with the much faster guys than me right now, there a lot of good guards now." Pierce complained. "Are you a Celtic?! If you are, you should be up to the challenge, you must never, ever give up! That's what we are!" KG, who has been the firepower if this team, exclaimed to Pierce. "Yeah, you're right." Pierce replied. Doc then looked at Oden, then at Bass, whom he gave a sad look at.

"Brandon, you've played well last season at the last couple of games, but Greg has proved himself worthy of the starting position. I'm sorry, Greg, you're now the starting Center, congratulations! Kevin, you're the 4." Doc announced. Everyone was happy for Greg, except for Bass.
"After everything I've contributed to this team, you're goin' to move down?!" After Bass said this, he walked out the door and slammed it and drove away.
"Don't you guys worry about him, guys. He was just shocked of the change, he's gonna feel better, I know." Doc said.

First team meeting (PT.II)

Sun Oct 21, 2012 1:15 am

After Bass left, most of the guys were laughing because of his childish act. They thought a 6"8 basketball dude being a crybaby?! Man, you're the next 'Big Baby'. "Alright, let's get back to business" Doc continued, "So we've had the new lineups, Avery will have the most minutes off the bench. He's proven to be a terrific defender and an excellent offensive player as well." Bradley was glad that his talents were recognized by the team, Rajon's glad that Avery would still be getting quality minutes. They had great chemistry playing together when Allen was out with his ankle injury.

"So the past couple of games we've been playing zone defense, I wanna try and experiment with this new lineup. So the majority of our next games, we'll play the typical ball defense, y'know, man to man D." Doc told his team, and he continued, "That's our defensive plan, alright? Now on the offensive side, I want the ball to come down the post, specifically to Greg and space him out. Paul will be a spot-up guy most of the time and KG will stay around 15 feet away the rim. Gerald will mostly cut to the basket, got it?"

Doc has been recognized to play zone defense in last year's playoffs and it worked well for him. So going back to the typical man defense is kinda unusual if they're defense has been working. Especially with teams that has multiple stars in them. But it might work out good too, since their next game will be the Pacers who are like the Spurs in the East.

The Celtics are scheduled to have team practice the whole week and the next week will be their game against the Pacers.

Will be posting the Pacers game in a while, Oden had a monster game, I'll tell you that.

Bad trade for you in my mind, Jeff Green has a lot of upside still, while Crash is past his best days. And giving up Terry as well...

Yeah, I regretted the trade myself, Wallace isn't who you expected him to be. Maybe I just needed time to get used to both Green and Terry.

Oden leads C's to crush Pacers (2-1)

Sun Oct 21, 2012 5:25 am

Oden has big game in first game as starter
Image

Greg Oden has debuted for being a starter and he sure has proven he is worthy of the position as the C's blowout Pacers 90-70. He had a very efficient game, scoring 18 points, wrapping up 12 boards too and shooting 6-9 FG. Pierce also had his best shooting night of the season scoring 18 points and 8-12 FG. The Celtics took charge since the first quarter starting the game with a 12-0 run, then the Pacers answered back with 16-8 run, but finished the quarter 25-19. On the 2nd, the game started to go Celtics' way as they finished the half leading by 11, 45-34. The third quarter was when the Celtics pulled away outscoring the Pacers by 10 in the quarter and lead by 21 after 3.

Gerald Wallace scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, had 1 steal and block each in his Celtic debut. KG was the second highest scorer for the Celtics with 12. Pierce seems to be guarding his match-ups well as Granger struggled shooting the ball, 5-20, despite scoring 18 points. The other game, Pierce held Shawne Williams to 4-18 shooting.
"I just seem to be fired up for the season. I don't want guys shooting on me. I felt under-confident myself last week when I was moved to the 2 spot, but the good thing was KG was there to support me." Pierce told the media after the game.

"What do you think of your new team, Mr. Wallace?" a reporter asked F Wallace. "I feel confident, just like they all are. Two future Hall of Famers is with you to guide you in your career. I like this team and I hope I could stay here for a long while." he replied. Greg Oden, on the other hand, wasn't able to be in the press conference due to personal reasons and went back to the hotel right after the game.

The Celtics' next game will be a rematch against last year's ECF and NBA Champions, the Miami Heat. This will also be the first game the Celtics and Ray Allen meet since he signed with the Champions last July.
