Opening Night Preview

Hello everybody and welcome to the Seattle Sonics Pre-Game show. Tonight is the opening night for the Seattle Sonics as they go into the Pepsi Center and try to knock off a heavily favoured Nuggets team still stinging from last years playoff exit against eventual champion San Antonio Spurs. Usually around this time we would rattle off some intersting stats about both teams and its players but since both teams are playing their first games tonight I will keep you up to date with what's happened around the league so far in this short season. Last night there were three games to start the season with Houston dropping 120 behind Yao's 33 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks to the Los Angeles Lakers 108, Kobe having an off night with just 13 points being in foul trouble for most of the contest. San Antonio kicked off their title defense in grand style with a 101-83 victory over the hapless Trailblazers, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combining for a mammoth 62 points, 21 assists to shut out a rampant Brandon Roy who dropped 31 of his own. In the final game of the night Golden State exacted revenge on the Utah Jazz 104-97, Baron Davis shining with 21 points and 11 assists, Carlos Boozers 13 point, 15 rebound, 7 assist effort left in vein.

Well we are nearing the tip-off to the Sonics-Nuggets game and all eyes will be fixated on one match up in particular, the battle of the young, talent, high scoring small forwards, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant, though Durant is yet to play a full paced NBA game yet, it is hard to ignore his potential to fill it up any given night, just look at his college and summer league numbers. Melo comming off a steller scoring season last year will be hoping to kick his season off to a good start by a) getting the win and b) showing this upstart rook a thing out two about really filling it up, Durant is only 19 after all and yet to fill into his body so expect Melo to take him on the block on more than one occasion tonight to get some easy in close buckets.

All in all, I expect it to be close contest in the early stages of the game, but Denver will overwhelm Seattle with the bigger bodies of Kenyon Martin and Nene and the scoring prowess of Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson [Did'nt meantion him at all until now.] and add the defensive presence of Camby and a J.R Smith hotstreak, can you prove me wrong?

Verdict: Nuggets by 15+

Nice! I was planning on making a Sonics dynasty also, and I'm leaning towards buying Live 08 for the 360 this year. Maybe you'll have competition in the Live 08 Xbox 360 Seattle Supersonics division.

Anthony/ Nuggets Destroy Sonics On Opening Night

In the Pre-Game show I told you all to watch the battle of the small forwards, Durant putting up solid numbers in his debut game offensivly, but what he did on the offensive end pales into comparison on what he could'nt do to stop arguably the best small forward in the game, Carmelo Anthony, not only was 'Melo pushing Durant off the ball defensivel, he was beating Durant up the court for fast break flushes, fade away jumpers from the wing, and a nasty slam on Kenny Thomas in the third. Netting a career high 20 field goals, Durant being smacked left, right and center in hard picks set by Nene and Camby took its toll on the 19 year old as he looked banged up, slumped on the bench in the final quarter. Since losing Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis last season, Seattles shooting would take a beating and it showed tonight especially from behind the arc, shooting just 5-20, Durant the main culprit.

Trailing by just eight at half-time, 'Melo turned it on pouring in 25 of Denvers 39 points in the third, sending the home crowd into histerics and a Sonics team scratching their heads trying to find the right match up. "Melo was great tonight," said J.R Smith, still trying to comprehend what happened in the third, "He was in some sort of zone out there, we just gave him the ball and isolated him on Kev, he took him apart," Smith had no problem shooting the three-ball tonight, making five of his six attempts from deep en rout to 21 points.

One of Seattles shining lights tonight was Luke Ridnour, though he did'nt shoot the ball well [5-17], he finished the game with 16 points and a game high 11 assists. "We have to refocus now," said a somber Ridnour, "We can't dwell on these type of losses, we have Phoenix tomorrow night, and if we are stuck thinking about this game then we will lose by alot more against a higher scoring team,"

Carmelo Anthony: 20-30 FG 45 Pts, 6 Rebs, 4 Asts, 3 Stls

Tough loss dude, Melo torched you. I forget, do you watch the CPU go at it (ie both teams set as CPU controlled) or do you just simulated from the Dynasty menu?

i just sim it from the dynasty mode, its alot quicker than sitting there watching the 12 minute quarters, plus the comp would probly score 150 on eachother if i let them go lol

Sonics Vs. Suns Preview

Image Image

Hello everybody and welcome to the Seattle Sonics Pre-Game show. Tonight is the opening night for the Phoenix Suns as they head to the Key Arena to face Seattle who return home on their second game of a back-to-back where they got trounced by a high scoring Denver Nuggets.

Tonights game is the first of three to be played tonight, Houston travel to Utah to play the Jazz, and the Pistons head to Miami to face the Heat. And with no new news around the league we will just get stuck straight into tonights firt contest and match-ups.

Seattle are expected to stay with the same team the lined up against the Nuggets last night with Kenny Thomas at center, Chris Wilcox and Kevin Durant at the forwards role, and Wally Szczerbiak and Luke Ridnour in the back court. The Suns, going with the line up that has worked best for them over the last couple of seasons with Stoudemire in the middle, Shawn Marion and Boris Diaw playing the 3 and 4, and Raja Bell and Steve Nash rounding out the back court.

I have singled out a player from each team who I expect to make a big impact off the bench for their club. Earl Watson was Seattles best player off the bench last night scoring in double figures and four assists off a double double. Expect him to come off the bench again tonight and score a fair share of Seattle bench points. On the other side of the scale, I'm predicting a big game from Grant Hill, with something to prove to his new club and tough relagation to the bench behind Diaw, expect Hill to make the most of his opportunity playing opposite Durant, seeing what Melo do to him last night will give the savvy vet all the confidence he needs.

After last nights dismal shooting performance, it's hard to pick Seattle over the high scoring, fast breaking Suns, expect Phoenix to gain a big lead early and never look back, I can see Stoudemire, Nash and Marion all getting double doubles tonight.

Big Three Sink Sonics

I had a feeling at the start of the game that Phoenix's big three of Stoudemire, Marion and Nash would have double double games, Stoudemire finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and seven blocks, a near quadrupil double game! Marion was two rebounds off a double double of his own with 20 points, eight rebounds, and Nash with a near triple double himself with 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. "Our guys played out of their skins tongiht," said Suns coach Mike D'Antoni during the press conference. "We had Barbosa comming off the bench with a great all round game of his own, it's eral helpful to see if the starters don't play well then we have capable players on the bench who are just as hungry,"

It only took two games for Kevin Durant to get his first 20 point game of his young career, going for 8 for 21 from the floor, but would have had a better shooting percentage if he wasnt as trigger happy from behind the three point line going for just 3-11. Luke Ridnour might have set a new Sonics record putting up 17 shots in 19 minutes, getting in early foul trouble and with Seattle getting blown out in the first half, Ridnour tried to save the game with a number of long bombs, none of which were going in the hoop.

Game Breakers

Amare Stoudemire: 12-23 FG 29 Pts, 10 Rebs, 6 Asts, 7 Blks
Steve Nash: 9-19 FG 25 Pts, 9 Rebs, 7 Asts, 1 Stl
Shawn Marion: 9-20 FG 20 Pts, 8 Rebs, 3 Asts, 2 Stls, 1 Blk

Kevin Durant: 8-21 FG 26 Pts, 9 Rebs, 2 Asts, 3 Blks
Chris Wilcox: 6-13 FG 15 Pts, 9 Rebs, 1 Ast, 1 Stl, 4 Blks
Wally Szczerbiak: 4-9 FG 10 Pts, 4 Rebs, 7 Asts, 1 Stl

Other Game Top Performers

Shaquille O'Neal: 16-24, 33 Pts, 10 Rebs, 7 Asts, 5 Blks, In Miami's win over Detroit

Dwyane Wade: 8-17, 21 Pts, 5 Rebs, 11 Asts, 1 Stl, 1 Blk In Miami's domination of Detroit

Chauncey Billups: 11-22, 27 Pts, 6 Rebs, 12 Asts, 1 Stl, 8 TO's In Detroit's Loss to Miami

Deron Williams: 12-22, 29 Pts, 1 Reb, 9 Asts, 2 Stls, 7 TO's In the Win against Houston

Tracey McGrady: 15-27, 36 Pts, 3 Rebs, 8 Asts, 4 Stls, In the loss against Utah

PHO is definitely on another level (for now anyway) and poised for a Championship run so that's a fairly predictable outcome; KD's gotta start driving to the hole if that trey isn't falling for him; GL next game and hopefully get that first W

Sonics Vs. Clips

Hello everybody and welcome to the Seattle Sonics Pre-Game show. Tonight we have the slow starting Seattle Sonics against the 1-0 Clippers. The Clippers picking up their first victory in their season opener against the Golden State Warriors, 111 to 89. The star of that game was Elton Brand with 37 points going 17-21 from the floor, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

Seattle on the other hand, still winless after two games, against in all fairness tough opposition in the Nuggets and Suns, young star Kevin Durant setting good career highs early in 28 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. For Seattle to win games, they will need Wally Szczerbiak to put more points on the board, averaging just 12 points per game, Luke Ridnour to start taking more smart shots, and to play some semblence of defense. Delonte West looks set to play his first game in Seattle colours tonight, sitting out the first two games with injury, he will be hungry and a very capable back up to Ridnour at the point spot.

News around the NBA is Boston have made an offer to Pape Sow, Boston schedualled to have a press conference tomorrow to name their signing, possibly to fill up roster space in the event of Garnett and his back ups go down with injury, Sow averaged 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in his 76 games with the Raptors.

The injury report is Josh Howard of the Mavericks has a sore thigh muscle and is listed as day-to-day, he has been playing through injurt in recent games. Mehmet Okur of the Jazz has a bone spur in his foot and will miss a week, Juwan Dixen of the Raptors will play through a bruised thigh for the next few days, Vince Carter of the Nets also has a bone spur in his foot and will sit out a week, Andrew Bynum of the Lakers has a bone spur in his ankle and will miss two to three months! Ruben Patterson will take place in tonights game but has a lower back strain so expect him to struggle somewhat, Baron Davis and
Mikael Pietrus of the Warriors will be out of the line up with a strained thigh and sore thumb respectivly.

I actually think Seattle have it in them to pull out their first win tonight, with Delonte West and Nick Collison back playing, and another big game from Durant, I think the Sonics will win this in a tight contest, it's going to be a cracker.

Ouch, 8 for 21 from the field from Durant. Nice recaps of the game, although I'm hoping for you to get the actual game first. A Durant/Green combo is definitely going to be a nice tandem to watch. Fingers crossed for Durant to bounce back from his poor shooting game.
