H Rock did an awesome job of incorporating my 2021 Laker Dynasty into his 2014 Spurs Dynasty environment and we decided to go head to head/IP to IP/best of seven game all out brawl. Obviously, we're still in experimental mode so we don't know how this will turn out but we thought we'd post our results here.

...all we know is that it's pretty frickin exciting...just imagine if you were playing Dynasty and realized that the team you're playing was actually controlled by someone/something other than the computers AI!

note: If anybody here is interesting in partaking in the fun, please let H Rock or myself know...the only real requirement is that the vast majority of your team has to be drafted/genome/comp-gen players.

Lawson proves to be a handful as Lakers down the Spurs
Having your secret weapon come off the bench is sometimes a good thing. The Spurs found this out the hard way. Despite Joe Erwin's amazing triple double and Center Dakota Erwin's 28 rebounds, the Laker's 6th man Rashidi Lawson was too much to handle as Los Angeles defeated San Antonio in Game 1 of the NBA Dynasty vs. Dynasty Finals(series 1 best of 7).

Image
Erwin uniquely fights for position against Gordon.

Despite the 125-112 outcome, it was pretty much a see-saw battle for most of the first half until the Spurs went on an amazing scoring run to start off the third quarter leaving the Lakers behind by 12. The Spurs seemed to have the game in hand especially when L.A's starting point guard, Serge Hoyle went down with an elbow injury late in the third.

The Lakers sixth man, would have nothing to do with that as Lawson scored 30 of his 37 points in the second half and along with 11 rebounds, pushed the Lakers into cruise control, passing the Spurs before the end of the quarter.

Image
This time it was Jones experiencing the vapor trail of Lawson.

"We just didn't have an answer for Lawson and I think that really hurt us not getting back on defense," said Spurs Kurt Walker who himself had a team high 36 points- none more amazing than a no-look 10 foot reverse layup which got the SBC crowd in a state of disbelief.

"I was going to hand him the game ball after that...," said veteran Kwame Brown. Brown ended the game with one block and one rebound because...well he sucks.

Image
At 7 foot 6, Thomas Goldberg's hands are like catcher's mitts for any basketball.

However, Rashidi didn't suck and the Spurs must now find a way in Game 2 to prevent his ability to quickly get out on the break- as most of his points were based off of Spurs turnovers.

"I was like, Oh [expletive] we're [expletive] down by [expletive] 12. That [explexitive] bites. All Coach said during that 3rd quarter time-out was to allow the game to open up and you'll find opportunities in the paint. "

Image
Not even Walker's 7 treys could save the Spurs from losing home-court advantage.

Game notes: X-rays to Serge Hoyle's elbows were negative after the game and he is listed questionable for the remainder of the series.

Game 2 is on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

The Blog of Zack Ferguson
Pre-Game

This game isn't going to be no contest at all. We've won the title the past four years. The Lakers can't even dream of winning one. How can you win when you have a 38-year old as your starting power forward? He was washed out 10 years ago. Kwame doesn't stand a chance against Joe Erwin. We're going to pulverize them.

We, of course, doesn't include me. You don't play white guys with goggles in the NBA Finals. Oh well, at least I'm being paid to sit in the best seats of the house. Since it’s a bit boring to sit for two-and-a-half hours, I might as well start a blog. My eighth-grade English teacher always wanted me to do it, so I suppose I'll do it now. It's a little too late to hand it in for homework, but whatever.

Argh, now I have to do those stupid pre-game warm-ups, and look like I'm actually ready to play. Every time I get up off the bench, my knees creak a little louder. Someday, they're going to go crack, and that'll be the end.

1st Quarter
Have you ever seen a crowd go silent? I mean, pin-drop silent? Well, if you came to SBC tonight, you heard it all right. I'm still speechless myself, and my hands are shaking. What made it? Well, I don't even need to tell you, since it'll be all over Sportscenter, and be on the highlight reel for years to come, but I'll tell you anyway. Kebu Jones lofted a half court alleyoop, but got tipped on the way. But my MAN, Kurt Walker, just twisted in mid-air, caught, and flipped it behind his back for the score. Dude, you gonna see this for the rest of your life, cause, in all my seven years, and in all the 749 games I've viewed from the bench, it's the best play I've ever seen. Dr J and MJ got nothing on Walkman.

EDIT- There he goes again. Downtown three. We got the lead.

2nd Quarter
I can't believe it; these guys are still with it. Them fans out there ain't so happy. When you win four titles in a row, your fans get a little greedy. But no matter, my man Walkman is still out there, and he's lighting it up. And Joe Erwin is showing those suckers what he does to "slashers". And talk about rebounding machine, Dakota Kerwin is Rodman minus the groin kicks. Seriously, 16 rebounds AT HALFTIME.

The coach is giving us a halftime speech, about staying focused, defending the fast break, cutting down on turnovers, etc. I'm away in my little corner typing away. That stuff never applies to me. I haven't gotten of the bench, surprise, surprise.

3rd Quarter
I told you, I told you. We be pulling 'way. I love Kebu. He's a quicker than lightning, and twice as deadly, too. 20 points off the bench. Up by 9 in the third. I got nothing more to say than we're kicking rump right now.

4th Quarter.
I feel like launching expletives. Those guys can play. They don't quit. But our guys quit. Man, even Kurt Walker couldn't hit. And I winced every time we made a pass. 38 turnovers. Seriously, that is no good. I can't even rejoice over the fact that Dakota had 28 rebounds, and Joe had a triple-double. Seriously, this is one time I wish I could have played. These young guys need some lessons in staying calm.

What's that guys name, Rashidi? He's got game, as much as I hate to say. 37 points off the bench, 30 in the second half.

Argh, I can't write. This is too frustrating. I'm going to put this behind me. We shall overcome.

Game 2:
Lakers don't have a prayer against Mohammed
Point Guard scores 30 as San Antonio evens the series with a 141-126 triumph over the Lakers.

Image
Mostly forgotten in game 1, Mohammed drives it home last night.

Thomas Goldberg's 34 points wasn't enough as San Antonio cruised to an easy victory as Los Angeles couldn't defend San Antonio's fast break and three point barrage. As the Lakers were easily down a whopping 39 points, the 16 year veteran shook off some of the bench rust and willed the team back into respectability.

Image
Give you four Lakers and one Z. Ferguson, and they still can't defend him along the baseline.

With Rashidi Lawson ankle injury side-lining him in the 2nd quarter, fellow veteran Spike Faulk also was called into action to defend the 3 point barrage of J.Ward. Nevertheless, J.Ward outdueled Faulk 31 to 23 in PER for the game.

Image
J.Ward would constantly keep their spacing honest- hitting 5 threes in the game.

Image
Gerald Owens the only solid game- 23 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast, 5stl, 4blk.

"We really had no answer for C.Mohammed...where did come from? Did he even play Game 1?" exasperated Serge Hoyle, who was largely ineffective with San Antonio's adjustments and spend the majority of the second have riding the Laker pine.

Image
Even role players such as A. Kinney took their turn taking stabs at Los Angeles.

Image
Thomas Goldberg unveils his former All-Star form, scoring 34 in the game.

Pre-Game
I can feel it. The place is rocking. The Lakers are being booed to high heaven, and then some. The crowd's behind us. Plus, I feel like someone is going to break out that had a bad first game. Who will it be? We shall see.

1st Quarter
Remember what I said before last game? You know, pulverizing them, and we shall overcome. Well, I know the we would overcome them. But after the first game I wasn't so sure we would pulverize them. Well, my guys sure proved me WRONG. We overcame them, and we pulverized. Even I, who's middle name is Cocky, didn't expect us to score 51 in the first. The arena is blowing its roof off. And Cyrus Mohammed...Man, he's been great. He hardly played first game, and he just exploded now. He's been dishing and scoring, or dishing and passing. And when he's dished to John Ward, John has been scoring.

EDIT- Oh, great, now Joe is dwon. Now we have Asong Kinney in. No offense to him, but he's no Hall of Famer.

2nd Quarter
Can you believe it? First Joe went down, and Asong. Now we have no centers. But yet we're still leading by 30. In the second quarter. If it gets worse (if that's possible), I might even play. I still don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. My knees are already feeling pangs of pain.

3rd Quarter
What can I say? We've been leading. That's all. We've kept up the 30-point advantage, and they aren't making a run, and this has to be the most boring thing I've ever seen. It's nice to get revenge, but when you're watching from the bench, then it's not so interesting. I think some of the unfaithful are already heading home

EDIT- Can you believe it, Poppy is calling me out. I'm actually going to play! Now my knees are really killing me.

4th Quarter
Now that it's all said and done, I still think it was a boring game. The Lakers made a run to get it down to "only" 15, but we scored a few baskets, and then the game was sealed. I actually scored six points, which has to be the most in a few years for me.

All the same, I think the Lakers have been stung, just like we were last game. I think Game 3 will be a classic. Which means I won't be playing, which now I know isn't a good thing. My knees are permanently damaged (not that they weren't already).

Have you heard of Michael Goldberg. More probably you're seen him. That guy is a freak. He overshadows both Joe and Dakota put together. He certainly was effective. You can't beat 34 points and 12 rebounds.

They beat us before, but we have overcome. Now the question is who will be more motivated next game.

It wasn't that bad. Honor Glow was only down by seven at one point, but then Joe Erwin blocked the Hulk...err Michael Goldberg at the rim, and then again on the next possesion. I scored both times, and he never got back to single digits. He hung around, but then the CPU kicked in, and I pulled away. He quit the game with about 7 minutes left and the lead at 16.

Anyway, the very, very important Game 5 will be played tomorrow morning. Maybe it will be like the 05 Finals- the first four games blowouts, and then Game 5 a classic. I hope so, because I'll be supremely disappointed if there isn't at least one close game this series.

Yeh we haven't had one close game...we tend to go on these phenomenal runs that the other can't suppress. Mohammed and Erwin have definitely made a name for themselves during this season...as have Owens and Lawson on the Laker end.

After this searies is done, we should definitely go back to our respective Dynasty universe and go through another offseason to pickup new blood. Right now I'm on game 42 of 2021.

Which basically means I should have an edge in Game 5 for our next series! Yeh!

Game 5: San Antonio 118 Los Angeles 115

Walker's shot at the buzzer...wow. Rashidi came up with a new move, dribble cross over out of bounds... costly costly costly mistake.
Funniest play: Block shot off of an Alley-Oop.

There was some pretty awesome team play on both ends. Lots of Phoenix type kick and drive stuff.

I was right about it being a classic. I was down by as much as 17 in the third, but I came back. Joe Erwin had another great all around game- 35 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 steals, and 3 assists.

And when I shot the three at the buzzer...I really thought I wouldn't make it. I mistimed it, and two guys were in Walkers face. Plus he was only shooting 1-7 from three before that. But a clutch shot from a great player.

Yeh, the reason I don't feel bad for losing is that my Lakers we're pretty much in it the whole game as oppose to the blowout the game before. We kept the turnovers to a minimum...frustrated Erwin on the inside...shot decently from midrange and beyond...and kept San Antonio's fast breaks to a minimum as well as balance attack to keep the Spurs guessing. Things that were'nt happening at all in the game before.

In the next series, now that you know you can cut and paste an entire row during DB editing, should probably be an exciting one as well. I guess we'll wait untill you get a promising rookie like my Gerald Owens...he's on the cusp of being an All-Star.

Of course, there was the fact that you were up by 17 in the third, and still up by double-digits in the fourth, but blew the lead.

Since you took a 10-point lead before the first quarter ended, I was struggling to get back almost the whole game. I worked my tail off, and when the excitement of the buzzerbater wore off, I just felt exhausted.

And I wouldn't say that you frustrated Erwin inside. After all, he had 35 points on 59% shooting and 14 rebounds. You kept him from dunking every possession by putting Hulk on him, but he still scored on some nice moves in the post.

I was surprised, though, that Goldberg took only 7 shots. Erwin was giving up 8 inches on him inside.

I was using him pretty much as a decoy the whole game and usually he wasn't playing center....notice that I had some pretty balance scoring? Frustated Erwin meaning that I kept him guessing the whole game...it wasn't always a Erwin/Goldbern matchup.

I started blowing the lead once I put Lawson at the point, which he is decent but not as natural as Hoyle that was my downfall.

Oh yeh, shame on the Spurs for allowing a 5'3" guard dunk all those facials on Mohammed!

Actually, Cyrus only played 6 minutes due to that injury (by the way, I think I'm lowering the injury settings to zero. I really hate those nagging injuries to key players). It was Kebu who played most of the minutes.

By the way, I vaguely remember that block off the alleyoop, but I don't remember exactly what happened? What made it so funny?

Game 5- pictorial recap
Rashidi Lawson costly turnover pushes LA to the brink of elimination
Image
The game started out with a bang, however the Lakers pulled away with an early lead and with the block shot triple threat in Elwood, Gaston and Owens. San Antonio was so bombarded that they felt they were actually 7-footers in disguise. Although he's only listed at 6'8", Gaston blocked 5 shots in addition to Elwood's 3. Said Coach Popvavich, "It's really annoying to have my guys coasting in, and then [the Laker] guards swatting it." In addition, starting guard Mohammed exclaimed in exasperation, "It would be more legitimate if the opponent didn't steal the ball every time it came withing five feet of them. But whatever, I can't change, I'll just have to adjust."

Image
Fatigue wasn't a factor in this game as both teams ran back and forth with the immediacy of a Game 5 victory. However as the series pushes on, Game 6 may see more of the benches logging in more minutes.

Image
Lawson's dribble out of bounds with only seconds remaining was crucial. Said Lawson, "I really hate it when you want to do one thing and then your body just goes and does something else, and that's what happened there. It wasn't like anybody significant was guarding me, they're all robots when it comes to defending my crossover. But apparently they did a good job of it this time. However, it wasn't them really, it was me who pushed myself out of bounds.

Image
The came the fateful buzzer beating 3 pointer by Walker. After the post-game celebration, Walker was still in disbelief with the last moments of the contest, "I was so suprised when the punk turned it over with 2.3 seconds left. That, obviously, was huge. But I'm still hyped over that three. OK, whatever happens next, Game 5 just filled every expectation. That was amazing."

Image
Teammate Erwin, always the historian basketball buff, further compared it with the Hall of Famer, Gilbert Areas, "And you know what? Walker hit that three almost at the same time that Gilbert Arenas hit the three to tie in Game 6 of the 2006 playoffs. And almost the same place too. Amazing."

Image
If the Lakers want to get back into the series, hopefully, Game 6 will be a repeat. While the Lakers could only contemplate, maybe this time it will be Lawson making three.

Game 6:
San Antonio has troubles closing it out, L.A. pushes series to the limit...115-96

Image
The battles are won or loss on the inside success of both teams

The champagne will have to wait and the parade rescheduled, at least for now. Despite the hot shooting of Walker and Erwin, San Antonio failed to shutdown the L.A. Inside out game as the Lakers escaped elimination Sunday at Staples Center.

Image
This somewhat sums up the game, Spurs are a beat ahead or a beat behind.

"I just didn't want it to end on our home floor," said Thomas Goldberg, who in himself, may be seeing the last games of his illustrious career. "I know I can't give 100 percent night in and night out anymore. But what was at stake, everybody had to put in 150 percent to buy us a ticket back to the Alamo."
Image
unsung: Gaston spreads the defense as nailes the 3ball

With noone on the roster logging in more than 23 minutes, the Lakers as a team gave everything they could muster out of their veteran bodies. Even seldom used formet Finals MVP Clement Stack chipped in what he could- two out-of-nowhere threeballs in the first half. Coincidentally, his cousin who plays for the Spurs also chipped in 6 points. The Laker lead fluctuate between 10 - 20 points
Image
Now this is a dunk...

Game 7 will be played back in San Antonio next Saturday. Both teams will go back to their respective Dynasty universes to prepare for the finale.
Image
Owens takes the fastbreak opportunities very seriously

Said Goldberg, "I'll have to check my schedule but I think Lil' H and myself are playing the all-star weekend back in 2021. It's been tough hoping back between Dynasty universe. The jet lag just kills you" Little H as most know is ineligible to participate in the Dynasty vs. Dynasty series due to violation of the league drug policy. Added Goldberg, "He says caffeine and you know what? I believe him."
Image
"I can't believe what I just saw! I saw man imitating a 1991 Jordan!"

Nevertheless, L.A. will have to face the raucaus San Antontio crowd come next Saturday and are wondering what type of adjustments the Spurs will be making. The Laker guards have yet to deter the passing abilities of Mohammed who once again had a strong showing with 7 assists- giving 5'3" Serge Hoyle all he could muster.
Image
You know the Spurs are having it hard, when Goldberg and crew can cut through the laws of phyics and block all the way from the other side!

Image
Ho hum, Hoyle serves the facial. When the Lakers do well, Hoyle appears to play significant minutes.

...more posted later, wanted to get this up before I hit the sack.

Well, I'm glad someone is reading this. I was getting a bit worried.

And this game didn't show the pain I was in. I jammed my finger playing basketball before, and it was aching the whole game. I played through the pain, but alas, I failed. :(

Nah, it was a fair game. I kept on coming back, but he kept on rebuilding the lead. I was down 20, then cut the lead to 10, but he extended it back 18. I cut it to 11, but he pulled away again. I made a last gasp effort with four minutes left, but got no closer than 12, and the last minutes were basically me jacking up threes...and missing.
