I got this off of their website

"Charlotte will have a Salary Cap in its first season equal to 66% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league and a Salary Cap in its second season equal to 75% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league."

for reference http://www.nba.com/bobcats/news/draft_c ... mmary.html

I don't know why they punish an expansion team with the lower salary cap... That's just weird in my mind as it makes it tougher to build a competitive team of an expansion team.

I would think that the expansion teams should have higher caps to start with so they could really go after some hot free agents etc. to make their team more appealing to the public and thus bringing in more cash along with the superstars...

Rules are rules... Ofcourse I see the financial downside to it too... If you got players worth 60 million and the people could care less about your basket ball playing team... It would lead quickly into financial doom, but with a star or two the team might create more buzz and get more people excited about the club and thus more attendance/income...

Higher salary cap would probably be a bad idea, but limiting the salary cap isn't such a great idea either... But I guess they have their reasons.

There is merit to that, but just imagine one team using tthe expansion team to off-load their highly-paid and not needed players. The expansion team would get talent, surely , but the team that managed to get rid of some fat contracts would have all the edge in the upcoming FA market.
Just think of what you are doing in NBA live dynasty when you want to get rid of salary. You just dump them to the Bobcats, right?

Well not in my case....
You see in my dynasty i edit the salary of Bobcats to make them have the allowable salary for the expansion team..

here's what i've done.
Bobcats salary was 23M something, which mean they just 5M plus in their salary cap.. salary cap of other team was 43.84M so Bobcats salary cap will be 29M (66% of 43.38)
But in Live they have 20M to used to sign players...
so what i do i add 15M in their salary so their salary in live would be 38M.
with 5M under the cap, the Bobcats were unable to sign decent Free agent. the results they sucks in my dynasty, finishing worst in the league.
well it make my dyansty somehow realistic. also i cant dumped dumped players with big salary to them.

Metsis, you don't need to get the fans excited in an expansion market, fans don't expect their team to win their first year, they are just happy to have a team. NBA must make the new owner understand that, and ensures some stability to the league. From a business perspective, its just common sense. Fans will allow 3 or 4 loosing season without much complaint, its well documented within the market research Charlotte did to get the team in the first place. NBA must capitalize on this and force the expansion team to build from within by taking advantage of something all other 29 teams wish they had... fans that will show up excited about the team no matter what the result of the game will be, win or lose.

And Micchy, I think I will have to do the same because this is just bad to simply have this huge hole in there, and see them sign Ben Wallace, Damon Stoudamire, and a few other starsat every dynasty I start.

I haven't done that... And besides there are always the guys with the bad contracts available at each expansion draft. The teams don't protect them cause they would be happy to get rid of their contracts... I don't know if the salary cap is the cap of players chosen in the expansion... There were many established NBA players available with more or less bad contracts that haven't been performing up to par lately. Antoine Walker was available, Allan Houston etc. The Bobcats could have gone the other way and get a star or two to their team to start with, but they chose not to and because they chose not to, they will have cap space for the next couple of years to work the free agent market or some trades...

Charlotte has been playing rather good this season... I would have expected them to be worse, but the emergence of Brezec, Kapono and others has them winning a couple more games than I would have thought... Okafor is just good... They just need to get him some quality help and get it soon if they wish to improve...

It's easy to exploit the AI's stupidity as it does not have a set plan when heading for the off-season or does not think about the long term effects of trades etc. Sometimes you have to make a bad deal to players and then just trade them away before it bites you up the rear end. It's easy in the game, not so easy in real life...
