when i tried to open the file *.fsh, i have an error message '' the file you are attempting to open is not a valid elocrtonics art shp file''
i used the fsx v.0.0.5

hey how do I get portrait files I've downloaded and imported into the .viv file into the game for created players? What do I change in the .dbf files?

Hello, Kevin/everyone...

I followed your steps in changing cyberfaces and it went okay. But when I started to play the game, my player have a pink head. Did i miss any steps?

I also wanted to clarify, is this tutorial used to change the portrait (ex. the picture displayed when a player take free throws) or the actual face of the player (in gameplay)?

Yup, you missed every single step in the tutorial that doesn't exist. This is for player portraits only, not cyberfaces. If you don't have a cyberface installled for a new player, it will show up pink in the game.

Ummmm....duh? The title of the tutorial is "Player Portrait Tutorial," not "Cyberface Tutorial." If you click through the reference pics, or actually read through the tutorial, you would see that this is strictly for portraits.

For future patching newbies who visit this thread, can you please just read through the tutorial and look through the refernce pictures before you post questions. As far as I can tell, everything has been covered. Whether its the process of creating the image, installation, dbf editing, it has all been covered at least once, and in most cases, several times.

good tutorial , only problem is when I click on most of the example links it gives me a pic of you doing somting in 3d studio max or Maya , why is that? its kinda throwing me off

ya, sorry, I accidently overwrote those 3 pics in that webspace, but I'll try and fix those. Fortunately, they're steps that do not really need a picture, they're pretty straightforward.

Ok dude Im all lost now , ive got what you said , adn as far as i can tell ive followed it to the "T" , the problem Im having is the image sizing , If I have the Image at 128 x 128 it cuts off the left half of his face , if i got higher i loose more and more of his face , if i go lower then 128 x 128 it looks like this

So what i might be not getting is the option in the FshX to adjust the image size coupled with what Im saving the image size as. Note that ivew tried it several ways , were as both the Image size is exactly the same as the size options in FshX.

The offset values change a couple times when you click "Rebuild" in bugui, when you are finishing the portrait *.big file. Th estep simpley means that when you click that rebuild button several times, you can stop when the values stop changing.

I think it must have to do with the ebo file. If you have used the ebo file from an existing portrait file, ensure that that existing portrait file is 128x128. If it isn't, creating a 128x128 file would create these problems, by either resizing itself, or restructuring the picture oddly. Try opening another players portrait file (use someone common, like LeBron or Melo) and extract their ebo file into your new players .big file, after you do the editing mentioned in step #14.

um...everything works except then I will with the players that I created the portraits for, their whole head is pink...

any ideas why its like that? and how I could fix it?

Everyone who read this tutorial, note that this is the last time I will say this, so if you ask that same question and don't get a response, you'll know why.

This tutorial is only for making :frontend playerportraits," not cyberfaces. If you do ont have a cyberface installed, the head will be pink. Simply install an existing cyberface, download one that someone has made, or make one yourself. I would suggest that you do not use a portrait without a cyberface, because it may cause your game to crash at an unexpected time, or it will just make your game look odd.

Does anyone no a site with good clear nba player pictures on it. I have went to gettyimages and there pictures are still kinda blurry when you zoom in on them. Does anyone no where i can find some good pictures? Anyone? :D

ok so in the EBO file , which i changed the line from someplayer1 to someotherplayer1 , there is also a line in there that specifies the image size?

Good tutorial!! Thank you.

But a strange thing happened. I used Zydrunas Ilgauskas's file for a custom player from mine who has black beard around mouth (sorry, forgot its english name, in spanish "perilla"), long hair. I rename and place the new portrait.
Everything fine. Then the CURIOUS effect comes into play: his head design has changed! Now his head is Tony Kukoc!
Guess the origin player viv has to be choosen more carefully, but it's strange his head is not his or Ilgauskas's but Kukoc :o funny.

I've done some tries about moving some of the editing intermediate files to the sgsm folder. If I move only the plyrprtrt~MYPLAYE.big it's the same, if I move everyone I get the pink head effect. again this happens if I move only the ebo, fsh and big to that folder (I have there all those three extensions because of other patches).

If I do further discoveries about this I'll tell you.

Hey im a bit slow at this but i have done my portait for myself thats all good but i cant get it onto my created played. I have created him and he is saved in the rosters and i know thats wrong and i dont have a clue what to do. PLZ HELP

no that is not possible, unless you also have a cyberface.

it is the lack of a cyberface which causes the head to be pink

How do u do tha process with the created player. Like wat do u but in the database for the created player. And how do u get to see ur player when u open up the C:/Program Files/EA Sports/NBA Live 2005/fe/plyrprts.viv file.

in players.dbf you change the iscreated column entry for that created player from true to false, you give the created player a 7 digit id, e.g. Shaquille O'neal is shoneal.
if you have a cyberface, you also change the database entry for facepatch to true.

to see the portrait of a players from the plyrprts file, you need programs eagraph (to open plyrprts.viv and extract the plyrprts~xxxxxxx.big file), biggui (to open the plyrprts~xxxxxxx.big file and extract the xxxxxxx.fsh file) and fshx (to ope the fsh file) and there you see your player.

Actually these are steps 1 to 4 from Kevin's tutorial.

I am having a problem adding the missing picture/portrait for a player (Yuta Tabuse) in the game. Here is what I was able to do so far, just to let you know what I did right so far:

- Created the player image and succesfully importing all necessary files into fe/plyrprts.viv

- Rechecked the user ID and changed all needed files (including inside .ebo file)

- Tried to change the files into Yao Ming's ID (YAMING_) and see or it worked in game, and it did. Appearently, the ID YUTABUS isnt beeing read in the plyrprts.viv.

So I figured I still did something wrong in the DBF files. I did refer everything to Kevin's quote earlier:

After you have created your player, open your DBF editor, and find your roster files plaers.dbf and appearance.dbf files. In players.dbf, change the ISCREATED, FACEPATCH, ISGENERATE, ISHISTORIC fields to false, and enter your players id into PLAYERPKG field, ex. Maurice Evans = MAEVANS.
In appearance.dbf, change the FACEID field to -1, and the ID7 field to the same id that you used in the PLAYERPKG field, ex. MAEVANS.


I suppose I was doing everything well so far except getting NBA Live 2005 to see that the player Yuta needs the portrait files. I did tried to figure it out for 5 hours straight like I didnt had anything else to do. But just to let you know that I at least tried.



** Updates **

I managed to do the same thing to created players now (instead of replacing Yao Ming's portrait). After some DBF editing it went out great. Still trying to get the original Yuta Tabuse player portrait added in game.

I think I'm getting closer to it. Appearently, the portret does shows in-game as the player commites a foul you will see the picture of him. Although when trading the player or showing his stats, the picture stays with the unknown/rookie picture. So it works half until now.
