Game ending play (Great programming by EA (NOT) )

Postby over_it on Fri Dec 12, 2003 12:44 pm

Hi all,

Well, I am playing Wolves v Bucks and the score is locked at 94 all, 30 seconds left, Bucks have the ball. The PC decide to work the ball around and drive to the basket with 4 on the shot clock. Reed drives and Spree comes across to draw the charge, great D I think to myself!! So the screen changes to the sideline and instead of my team inbounding, the Bucks have it on the sideline (This is a pathetic bug and I don't understand how EA let this slip). I'm a programmer and would be fired if something I did was not tested and worked to specification and not put in a known Buig report.

To make matters worse, with about 4 seconds left on the clock Reed this time takes a 3 and hits the shot, leaving me with 1 sec to throw up a mid court airball and loose the game. Yeah I was very happy with the outcome of this game (NOT).

I don't understand why EA had to change the module of code which handles Offensive Foul/Inbounding of the ball, as it worked fine in the previous versions of Live.

Apart from this, I'm finding the game play fine, sliders help a lot, but the only thing that can fix the inbound problem I figure will be Live 2005 and a new programmer/tester.

i feel for you too......it happened to me just now.....almost the exact situations.... i was up by 1....i'am using 93'bulls of ben's rosters against the western all-stars....garnett was called for a charge when the screen shifts....they called somewhat a violation on my part even if i was doing nothing.....then it's there ball...they inbounded it quickly to duncan before i can even react then he drills in a fade-away j at the buzzer...i was so stunned about what happened  i hope EA can fix this problem with a patch..

But the worst mistake of this kind is drawing the offensive foul and then the game gives the player 2 points on continuation. I mean this is the major goof of live 2004.

No continuation on offensive fouls is like a very basic rule of basketball. This demands an official patch!

I am not 100% sure about the NBA rule there, but I am pretty sure the FIBA rule was (and maybe still is) that the basket counts if the charge happens after the shooter has released the ball.

In Live2004 the basket counts even if the charge takes place clearly before the player has released the ball.

actually in the nba.. if say mcgrady shot a 3.. and then a whistle for a charge on like gooden or sumthin.. the basket will count
ya i've experienced bugs like.. its a shooting foul then i get the ball out of bounds or werid plays where i get call for a charge but get the ball back..

alexlive - I totally agree, no basket is counted in the NBA after a charge has been called, otherwise big guys like Shaq would waste some fouls in the last few mins of a close game to run through people and get easy dunks/layins.

I don't know how they stuffed the Offensive Foul situation so much. Maybe that's why Toronto have a great home record as they get the ball back and free baskets for committing offensive fouls :)

Maybe the guys who demo the game should actually follow the NBA and know the rules before EA release it onto the market for us users to put up with. To get it right in 95,96,97,98,99,00,01,02,03 and then to stuff it in 04 makes me wonder if EA hired some ex Microsoft programmers!!!

i have the same bug not only in 2004, also in 2003.

example:

when i was defending my opponent.
Thay missed a shot and one of them did a lose ball foul.
(His name's showed on the screen)

But i don't know why they can had 2 free throws..

On the other hand, sometimes i was the LUCKY one who called a foul and also stepped on the line ~~
