RsRp - Is it Worth Defending your Opinions Online?

Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:16 am

RsRp = Random Stat, Random Poll. But mostly Random Poll, who wants to find stats every other day?

1st Poll: Which would you rather give up? Cell Phone - 89% | Sex - 11%
2nd Poll: Who is more important to a game's success? Creator - 63% | Community - 38%

A whole day and a half without a reply?! GENERAL TALK IS DEAD

New Poll Is it worth defending your point of views on the internet? Yay vs Nay

With that girl signing up to terribly defend her jobless state with her Prius and $100 sunglasses, is it even worth defending your point of views on the internet? If someone shits on your opinions, can you let it go, or do you fight for it?

Vote foo'

Well they're both forms of serving connection really aren't they, haha. But with sex being the ultimate connection, and the internet serving as a decent form of communication anyway, surely ya gotta vote for cell phone!!!!!!!!

I really doubt anyone will vote for sex, being a full male forum. (although i wouldn't be surprised if someone like benji was a-sexual)

luckily for you, that little checkbox that lets people change their vote is ticked

I didn't reply or vote yet since it's a non-issue for me. I live in an area of barely any cell service, and when I do get it, it's not that fancy shmancy 3G or 4G.

Pretty much everyone under 30 is living in the text generation. At this point the average teenager sends more than a 100 damned texts a day. Last year, an astounding 6.1 trillion text messages were sent worldwide. Yes, we said trillion, with a "T." Now think about the sheer repetition of the thumb motions a person makes while texting on a number pad phone -- the average 16-year-old can probably send a text in her sleep.

Jeez...I do text, but I don't send anywhere near 100 per month, let alone per day.

Re: Who is more important to a game's success? The Creator vs The Community.

I voted for the creator. It's pretty obvious in my mind. If the creator produces a shit game it's not going to be successful, if it's good, then it's more successful. Sure, the community is significant, no doubt about it. But c'mon. It's all in the hands of the creator.

Minecraft is a pretty unique situation, since it's so dependent on its users. But i would attest that minecraft is almost less of a game and more of a software. Whatever you call it though, if it had not been created in the first place then it can't be successful.

Carnival Games disagrees. Just Dance too.
if it's good, then it's more successful.

Bulletstorm, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, etc. disagree.

He's a jerk for being sued by a massive corporation who thinks it can trademark the word "scrolls" forever?

He even offered to settle it in Quake!

He opened that can of worms anyway for trying to trademark that simple word, now them lawyers for a company who has bigger pockets than him smelled it and wants blood.

Quake 3. Smart man. Like Kevin Garnett. I like Kevin Garnett.

I'm going to say the creators as well. Significant as a video game community is, it's on the developers to put in the hours, utilise the tech available to them, etc. If the developers are putting out a product that the consumers want or establish brand recognition, there will be an online community there for it. However, I also think it's on the developers to keep tabs on those communities and make the best possible use for them. Even though it doesn't always go smoothly or garner the desired results on either side, I think the increased interaction between developers and their customers through online communities is one of the best things to happen with video game development.

I'm sure if I beat this thing a bit harder, I might get a few more inches out of it  .

New Poll.

I like the new poll question.
I honestly think it is worth defending yourself. No matter how stupid, smart it is.Someone is always going to shit on or agree with it.

It is better than not defending your opinion at all and acting like a :seriouscat: .

You're supposed to post the poll results, silly jaosming.

As for new question, yes, i guess so... isn't that the point of online discussion?

The first option should be 'Yea', not 'yay'. The two words mean entirely different things.

As for the question itself, what Nick said.

Top of the first post has the results of past polls

koberulz wrote:The first option should be 'Yea', not 'yay'. The two words mean entirely different things.

You are correct sir. But I'm pretty sure if I change the options it clears the poll

If you enjoy discussion and debate, sure it is. As already mentioned, that's the whole point of online discussion.

Having said that, if you're making too big an emotional investment in defending your opinion online then you might have a problem because in the long run, it's not a hill worth dying for. With all the trolls and..."interesting" people out there, it's important to be able to recognise when it's no longer a quality discussion and either back away or go tongue-in-cheek. It's fine to get involved in a discussion and argue a point of view passionately; just don't treat it like a life or death matter and don't feed the trolls.
