if its so easy, let me see you write a rap and post it here
everybody will laugh at you because it turns out to be not so easy as you thought, rhyming is easy but writing a rap isnt just rhyming

LOL easy there tiger, if you read the rest of my post you'll realise I was just poking fun at all genres! And I'm sure a rapper like Chingy struggles to come up with his deep masterpieces!
And shit, I can rap, just ask some of the people who talk to me on MSN

Jae I wasn't neccessarily talking about you....

The fact that most of the people I have heard talked about on this board was Talib Kweli. People that try to like rap and try to be cool listen to HIP-HOP. People who really like rap and know what real rap is, listen to RAP. The song with Houston is really an R&B song because I call singing R&B. Like I said, listen to music from Mike Jones, Michael Watts, Paul Wall, Triple 6 Mafia, like some southern rap. 106& Park sometimes have good songs on it, but most of it is kind of like an R&B thing.

You can listen to Nelly's latest song, "My Place" with Jaheim on it. I think that's more R&B than hiphop  If you listen to Houston's song, do you think he is singing or rapping? Chingy is HIPHOP, but not rap. He is more of a club rapper (made up word  ) where he like have beats that people like to dance to and sing the chorus too.

I know he is releasing 2 albums, you don't have to tell them. The fact is, he still isn't a true rap artist. Even in his sweat album, those songs arent just true rap. "Flap your wings" is nothing but hiphop.

no doubt, but as far as the general public is concerned rap is about hoe's, rims, money and wearing 10 pounds of jewelry. You have to search for good rap that isn't shit, all the good rap is conscious, with a few exceptions. Nappy Roots for example make more references to chicken than any rapper does to guns.

You do know that a lot of this rap is made for clubs, you can't really have Pac's Brenda's Gotta Baby playing in a club you need some stupid generic music that all the stupid teeny boppers with nod their air filled heads to.

10-20, OK. I'll name 24 actually if you don't want to count a few of the deceased names I mention. BTW more big respected names in rock comes from it being around for about 3 times as long. So people mention the same few people, maybe that's because they don't want to list 20 names every time they bring up a point. I hear Nirvana, AC/DC, Led Zeppillen (or however you spell it) all the time when people talk about rock.

Biggie (deceased)
2Pac (deceased)
Big L (deceased)
Eazy E (deceased, NWA)
Rakim
Nas
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
RZA (Wu-Tang Clan)
Method Man (Wu-Tang)
Raekwon (Wu-Tang)
Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang)
Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest)
Scarface
Guru (Gang Starr)
Chuck D. (Public Enemy)
Cormega
Havoc (Mobb Deep)
Prodigy (Mobb Deep)
Andre3000 (OutKast, not his singing, but when he actually raps)
Kurtis Blow
Grandmaster Flash
Ice Cube (NWA)
MC Ren (NWA)

By saying there's all these crappy artists that bring down hip-hop, are you suggesting that 'bands' like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and Billy Talent don't to the same thing to rock.

Biggie (deceased) - Dead bloke, also talked about bitches and ho's...
2Pac (deceased) - Dead bloke, respectable rapper #1
Big L (deceased) - Who?
Eazy E (deceased, NWA) - NWA are one of my favourite groups (Y)
Rakim - Decent, not great
Nas - I think I'm the only person who's got Illmatic but not Stillmatic. Bandwagoned.
Talib Kweli - I'm so sick of hearing about him
Mos Def - Rubbish
RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) - Can't really separate all the Wu-Tang guys...
Method Man (Wu-Tang) - Just talks about getting stoned
Raekwon (Wu-Tang) - Same as RZA
Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang) - Same as above
Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) - Sucks big time (N)
Scarface - Good (Y) I got one of his CD's for $2, and its good
Guru (Gang Starr) - Another one in a group?
Chuck D. (Public Enemy) - Another one in a group? Not even that good.. is this hip hop or rap
Cormega - Sucks (N)
Havoc (Mobb Deep) - ANOTHER one in a group!?!?!?!?
Prodigy (Mobb Deep) - AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH
Andre3000 (OutKast, not his singing, but when he actually raps) - IN... A.... GROUP... HIP... HOP... NOT... RAP
Kurtis Blow -
Grandmaster Flash - I'll sorta pay this one
Ice Cube (NWA) - (Y)
MC Ren (NWA) - :?

You can't really give all of these separate guys, considering alot of the guys in groups don't particularly have big solo careers. It'd be like if we listed every member of Led Zepplin separately or somethin, or every member of AC/DC, Nirvana etc etc... the whole group yes, individuals in a group no

Hehehehe, I absolutely knew that this thread would degenerate into a Rock vs. Hip Hop argument. As a long time Hip Hop fan let me say this, they BOTH are equally as hard to master and takes a great amount of skill.

A rock fan will say: "Rap sucks dude, they don't even play instruments! All they do is talk about money, guns and jewelry, they aren't the least bit creative."

A Hip Hop fan will say: "Man, all rock music is just a bunch of screaming and long hair flying around. Who the hell can dance to that bullshit? Who can even understand what they are saying?"

The fact is that Hip Hop and Rock music are more alike than we all care to think. They represent the voices of the frustrated youth, the oppressed and the often unheard. They speak to people's inner most emotions in a way that is innate to them, and both have bridged gaps racially, socially and politically.

Why is it that we always feel this need to put down other people's likes and dislikes? Regardless of what music touches us on a personal level we can never deny the impact of both artforms on the musical landscape. As for myself, I'm waiting more on Nas' album "Streets Disciple" and Talib Kweli's "The Beautiful Struggle" more than I'm awaiting new stuff from Opeth, Soilwork or Good Charlotte.

But it doesn't mean that my stuff is better, it just means that we're different, that's all. I gleefully look forward to the day when we celebrate differences as opposed to hating them..... :)

Don't worry there's not too many rock fans waiting on that album either.

 Okay so Good Charlotte gets replaced with Children of Bodom or Skyfire, but you see my point don't you? We're all so concerned with puitting down other forms of music that it makes me think that it's a way of validating our own. I don't need to criticize any one's music to feel better about an artform I've loved since I first heard "Rapper's Delight" back in 1978.

That music spoke to my inner most being as it continues to do today, even at the ripe ol' age of 30. The funniy thing about both artforms is how there is sort of a civil war within both. For instance in Rock it seems like you're not a "real" fan if you like Good Charlotte, Blink 182 or Creed. In Hip Hop, "real" Hip hop heads despise 50 Cent, Ja Rule and any other commercial act. Why?

Look, there's enough room for all of us to live and love. I'll never feel rock the way you do Jae but I'd never say your feelings or the artform you love are foolish. Catch my drift?

BTW, let's stop using the word "wigger" to describe caucasian Hip Hop fans. White folks were definitely down in the beginnings of the artform back in the 70's, a guy like Rick Rubin (who produces rap and rock) is a LEGEND. Does him loving Hip hop music make him a "wigger"? And what exactly is a "wigger" if the definition of one is a person who attempts to imitate black culture? White niggers? Are we now calling all black people niggers?

Granted the word nigger or more specifically "nigga" is a prevalent one in the world of Hip Hop as well as in the black community but it's reserved for people who truly understand the meaning and intent behind the term. BLACK PEOPLE. Let's keep the "niggas" to a bare minimum (Riot) in this thread, thank you.
