The fact that most of the people I have heard talked about on this board was Talib Kweli. People that try to like rap and try to be cool listen to HIP-HOP. People who really like rap and know what real rap is, listen to RAP. The song with Houston is really an R&B song because I call singing R&B. Like I said, listen to music from Mike Jones, Michael Watts, Paul Wall, Triple 6 Mafia, like some southern rap. 106& Park sometimes have good songs on it, but most of it is kind of like an R&B thing.

I know he is releasing 2 albums, you don't have to tell them. The fact is, he still isn't a true rap artist. Even in his sweat album, those songs arent just true rap. "Flap your wings" is nothing but hiphop.

Hehehehe, I absolutely knew that this thread would degenerate into a Rock vs. Hip Hop argument. As a long time Hip Hop fan let me say this, they BOTH are equally as hard to master and takes a great amount of skill.

A rock fan will say: "Rap sucks dude, they don't even play instruments! All they do is talk about money, guns and jewelry, they aren't the least bit creative."

A Hip Hop fan will say: "Man, all rock music is just a bunch of screaming and long hair flying around. Who the hell can dance to that bullshit? Who can even understand what they are saying?"

The fact is that Hip Hop and Rock music are more alike than we all care to think. They represent the voices of the frustrated youth, the oppressed and the often unheard. They speak to people's inner most emotions in a way that is innate to them, and both have bridged gaps racially, socially and politically.

Why is it that we always feel this need to put down other people's likes and dislikes? Regardless of what music touches us on a personal level we can never deny the impact of both artforms on the musical landscape. As for myself, I'm waiting more on Nas' album "Streets Disciple" and Talib Kweli's "The Beautiful Struggle" more than I'm awaiting new stuff from Opeth, Soilwork or Good Charlotte.

But it doesn't mean that my stuff is better, it just means that we're different, that's all. I gleefully look forward to the day when we celebrate differences as opposed to hating them.....

Okay so Good Charlotte gets replaced with Children of Bodom or Skyfire, but you see my point don't you? We're all so concerned with puitting down other forms of music that it makes me think that it's a way of validating our own. I don't need to criticize any one's music to feel better about an artform I've loved since I first heard "Rapper's Delight" back in 1978.

That music spoke to my inner most being as it continues to do today, even at the ripe ol' age of 30. The funniy thing about both artforms is how there is sort of a civil war within both. For instance in Rock it seems like you're not a "real" fan if you like Good Charlotte, Blink 182 or Creed. In Hip Hop, "real" Hip hop heads despise 50 Cent, Ja Rule and any other commercial act. Why?

Look, there's enough room for all of us to live and love. I'll never feel rock the way you do Jae but I'd never say your feelings or the artform you love are foolish. Catch my drift?

BTW, let's stop using the word "wigger" to describe caucasian Hip Hop fans. White folks were definitely down in the beginnings of the artform back in the 70's, a guy like Rick Rubin (who produces rap and rock) is a LEGEND. Does him loving Hip hop music make him a "wigger"? And what exactly is a "wigger" if the definition of one is a person who attempts to imitate black culture? White niggers? Are we now calling all black people niggers?

Granted the word nigger or more specifically "nigga" is a prevalent one in the world of Hip Hop as well as in the black community but it's reserved for people who truly understand the meaning and intent behind the term.
