i love this forum...

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

He'll always be Jackal to me, no matter what his new name might be. Just like I call CK or whatever his name might be right now cyriel, and I always called D-Weaver that, no matter what his name change might have been.

At least the fad of changing your name and avy to a superhero is over.

<bleep> all you mother<bleep>ers. You can't have finger terets (sp?) that make you type out random swear words.

The new mods bore me. Do something fun please.

Just kidding. I love the new mods. Especially cyanide.

ah, the fourm rules already do refer to the issue of poranity. the rules say something to the effect that above all we should have fun and be CIVIL.

Civility, according to dictionary.com, refers to being courteous and polite.

polite and swearing dont mix.

fourm rule.

there are rules that must be followed in basketball. otherwise the game would be a mess.

rules are...

rules, and we need to play by them.

Is that supposed to be philosophical or something??

Look, the moderation team handles any issue where we feel things are no longer civil. If there's an issue you feel we don't see, by all means, drop one of us a PM and we'll look into it.

If you want a forum that strictly forbids any and all profanity, please feel free to look elsewhere. This is the hand the forum has dealt you. Take the good with the bad, or you're more than welcome to check in elsewhere.

So, let the sleeping dog lie. There's a rule for ya. Play by it.

let us (the mods) do our job, and you can do yours (posting).
I won't sit here and tell you how to post so please don't tell me how to do my job.

Yes, the forum rules do address profanity, and we should all be civil about it, but did you happen to also read:
Profanity

Profanity is tolerated on the forum, but we ask that you try not use it in excess or unnecessarily. If you direct profanity towards other members, it will be treated as flaming and you will be asked to cease such behaviour.

yes, profanity is tolerated.

"tolerated", according to dictionary.com, refers to permission, and a lack of prohibiton.
tol·er·ate (tl-rt)
tr.v. tol·er·at·ed, tol·er·at·ing, tol·er·ates
1. To allow without prohibiting or opposing; permit.
2. To recognize and respect (the rights, beliefs, or practices of others).
3. To put up with; endure.
4. Medicine. To have tolerance for (a substance or pathogen).

so "polite and swearing" do mix, as swearing can be a way to express frustration without directing it towards someone else in the forum.

so once again, like you say, let's play by the rules...
and let the moderators decide when profanity goes over the line. thanks.

Ignoring the sarcasm detector, I think it's a shorthand way of saying ROFLCOPTER.

I don't get it. A helicopter made out of letters, with "LOL" and "ROFL" making the blade things? I mean... its like when people make a big heart out of letters, but that has a point. What does a helicopter have to do with anything?

It just evolved that way. I'm not a fan of rofl or lmao or lol's for that matter, but it just got to the point of making fun of those abbreviations as actual words rather than abbreviations. Instead of thinking of "laugh out loud," we start thinking of "lol" as just that: "lol" as in "lollipop." Then people just made fun of it by attaching words to it and all that. No biggie, really. More like inside jokes.
