Your worst basketball injury

Postby joejam999 on Sat Feb 10, 2007 6:03 pm

What is the worst injury you have got while playing b-ball? I will go first.

August 2005, Some friends and I were playing dunk ball at my house when I was going to dunk on my friend he came towards me and I kinda stepped/jumped of his foot and cracked two bones in my foot and who knows what else. I was on crutches for 3 weeks then in a boot for about 3-4 weeks after that.

February 2006, A friend and I were playing a "Tip it" game in the church gym and I had to throw up a wild 3 it missed, we went for the rebound. He is 6-1 and I am like 5-6 so I got up higher for the Reb so when we came down my feet were higher so my toes came down on his foot and the same thing happend (owned) only not as bad. I was on crutches for 3 weeks then the boot for 2. I was playing 5 weeks later.

Ouch man, that sounds painful.

My worst I have right now and have had for about 7 months. I made a thread about it a while back asking if anyone had the same type of pain in their knees for extended periods and if they healed.

Last week I found out it was patellar tendonitis. The problem is, once you get it, you need to rest your knee for 6-8 weeks and then begin rehabbing it. I injured it, sat out 3 or so days, played again, re injured it and so on, and that is why I have had it for so long. I rested about 5 weeks at one point, and went straight back to basketball and re injured it, because the knee was so weak from so much rest and it hadn't yet gone through the rehabbing stage to get strong again.

I have just started back at school and am taking P.E where we do a 3km run 4 out of 5 days of the school week. My teacher said I can sit out for the time I need before I begin rehabbing it but I decided to test it on the run and was very happy because I was almost completely painfree. The second day, same thing. I'm pretty excited to get back to playing again and will be going to physio starting next week so he should be able to let me know where I am at and if it is safe to start rehabbing and keep on running.

Other than that, I once went up for a layup, got swept from underneath in midair and landed in a handstand position. Severely sprained both my wrists.

Torn meniscus in my right knee with a stretched ligament. Haven't got it fixed yet because I had just turned an age where my insurance stops covering me if I am not a full time student, and I was only part time. Guess what? Been playing for 8 years, haven't got it fixed. I still can't completely straighten my knee. I need to fucking get on with it. I'm figuring it isn't as bad as it sounds, it might have healed in some way because I haven't had any pain for several years.

luckily, i have never had any serious injuries ffrom bball. the worst is proabably a bruised hip for 2-3 weeks from diving on the floor for a loose ball. man it was purple for the first 1-2 weeks, and it was sore for a good 3 weeks. I still have a slight scar from that. my skin is a lil darker where i landed. I get all kinds of scrapes on my knees and elbows every game.

I broke the 2 bones on my right forearm back at 2003. My forearm formed a ^ shape. :x

I underwent surgery wherein they had to put 2 steel plates on the 2 broken bones. I know possess 2 big scars on my arm. :x

A little more than a year ago I sprained my ankle, and since I didn't bother taking enough care of it, it ended with a ligament getting very stretched, which lead to a bone in my foot going out of place. That bone then pinched a nerve in between another bone... It was extremely uncomfortable and took a few months to get completely rid off.

Sprained ankle is my worse, happened in our playoffs we were in the 2nd round and it was like the 3rd quarter and i got the ball on the fast break i charged down the court with 2 guys ahead of me one of them put up a screen to take the charge but i crossed him over but as i got half way i clipped his leg and fell into the other guy where my foot rolled off of his foot and i put all my weight on it and then i just felt pain lol. I missed the rest of the playoffs but we lost the next round anyway.

I got surgery on my left knee (patella) when I was eight. Happened while playing soccer though: if I remember correctly some kid just kicked my knee with the sole of the shoe. He had to pay for my surgery.

Last year I had a few dislocated fingers and I have a sprained ankle every two or three months (I have weak ankles but I do magnotherapy on a thing called NEMES two times a week to fix that).

My worst basketball injury was my back. I dont know how to call it in English, Im not actually even sure how to say it in Lithuanian :D In a game, when I jumped for a lay-up, i some how twisted (not sure what word to use, Im not a doctor) my back muscle. The pains really lasted for long, for about a month, and the injury renewed a few times. I havent got back pains for a while now. In the worst time I didnt even go to school, the pains were terrible.

gedas i think your looking for strain...

Anyway not from ball but it would affect my bball career: tendonitis in both shoulders since march and since im in a wheelchair impossible to rest it...at this point i'm just sucking it up and playing through the pain.

Worst injury I got was a deep knee bruise which didn't even come from playing a sport. I've never played basketball, but I used to play soccer a lot.

I dunno, I can't remember too much about injuries. I know I broke a bone in my shooting hand (right) when I was on a fast break and after I laid the ball in, we both came down and his momentum pushed me into the wall behind the basket and I tried to put out my right arm to stop myself, but yeah.. crack.

I did cause a pretty serious injury though. I was under our own basket and one of my teammates broke away from his man and busted downcourt. I threw a high baseball pass to him, he caught it in midair and put it in, but upon coming down from it, he landed strangely and tore his ACL.

caught an elbow once that knocked my front top tooth out. the thing that made it so bad was, i just had a a post incerted into my root and a fake tooth put into the front(tooth was pretty bad before this). so when he knocked it out it only knocked out the fake tooth and the post leaving my root. the root itself was shattered into 4 pieces though and left in my gums. it hurt like hell and i could not get to the dentist for 3 days. so that was the worst injury(if you can call it that) i have ever received from bball.

My worst was when I almost broke three toes. I was playing basketball and guarding a 6'2" almost 220 pounds adult, he was posting up, he slipped and fell on my right foot, painful...

Also, I read somewhere that some Euro guy back in 1993(I think), knocked his head to a corner of the basket because of anger(he got a 5th foul) and broke his some neck thingy(can't remember how to call it) and couldn't move his legs, nor his hands for the rest of his life...

I never really had major basketball injuries.
Jammed fingers here and there, a bruise on my kneecaps, and a couple basketballs to the nose.

Wasn't caused during a basketball game but it has prevented me from continuing to play basketball at a competitive level.

In hockey I went knee-on-knee with an opposing player and dislocated my knee cap and broke my shin. I landed side ways and split my shin bone in half down the middle, so half of my shin bone is on the outside of my knee cap while half is underneath.

Compared to most people I have had it easy. The worst things I had wass a few jammed figures that swelled up to twice there size, a minorly sprained ankle once or twice but I still played that game, and once I had a head to head colision and my nose swelled up twice its size and I couldn't wear my glasses.

I went up for an up and under layup and landed on someone's ankle, Bruce Bowen style. What made it even worse was that I was finally getting off the bench to show what the coach I could do and I was actually playing well.

I don't play for my school team anymore though, after that injury my parents think I'll turn into Penny Hardaway.
