Football Manager 07

Bah, I said I would update a thread with impressions on the 8th of september when the embargo on information ended. But I didn't. So now I do.

I guess most of you have read the SI-blog on myspace, so you know what to expect in ways of new features. And you might know that the testing is in it's final stages and the demo should land in about a week. But what you don't know is how the bugger plays.

For starters, the blog doesn't cover all of the features by a longshot. A lot of the new stuff might actually not be new "features" as such, but a good step up when it comes to how information is presented and sorted. Almost all screens have some customisation to offer. Even if this is just the way stats are GUI:d or how they're sorted - you will get the option to have the game show you the information you want in the way you want. Without mucking about in the .xml-files. That's something good.

The home-page for example, all of the diffrent widgets can be changed. Don't want the table? Well then, choose to see all the latest transfers, or maybe managers under pressure if you're getting tired of your current club or just want to stay informed.

Three things stand out in 07. Scouting, presentation/flexibility and "fred"/newgens. The scouting, in a word, kicks ass. The flexibility really makes the game more enjoyable. And "fred" or the newgens are just amazing. Gone are the regens of fornlorn, and in comes a new systems that's just amazing. Playing 20-odd seasons will now be an absolute joy!

Short summary of my impressions so far.

Can you expand a bit on what they've changed/done with the regens? I've found in FM 06 all of the regens I get have selectively good stats (like they'll have 9 things rated 20 but everything else will be 5-10, yet teams will still pay 15 million for them) and the last names are always from the country you're managing in... there's alot of Germans and Brits in my game at the moment with Italian last names. It's a bit dodgy to be honest.

That system is completly replaced. No more regens (regeneration of previous players or characteristics) and in with newgens.

I have not seen anything of the things you mention, and no more world-class players in division 3 teams after 5-10 seasons. They've added several checks against todays db, not for names or nationalities - but for a general distribution of potential and current ability. No more strikers that rock at corners but cannot get the ball on net either. The extreme ratings are somewhat still in my unpolished db with a whole fuckload of 19 year old brazilians with 20 in way too many categories. This will have changed I've been told.

The name-problem you've mentioned also seems to be gone. I'm not sure how they did it, but I have not seen any Guiseppe O'Learys or Thierry Stekelenburgs.

I'd like to hear a bit more about scouting and negotiations.

Negotiations differ between the diffrent types of negotiations you're involved in from time to time. Hard to give a good answer there.

The scouting though, in one word: finally.

Just started a season with Man U and I was wondering, is it just me or is there still no pics for the main players. I have selected show player pictures too :? Anyone got this problem or know what to do?

I dunno but I would just go to sortitout or something and get the facepacks myself. Its also fun when you make them yourself.

So I went into DB Editor to see if there were any changes because I may wanna do a transfer update thingy in the future. To my surprise it has been redone and is so much easier to use and doesnt slow your pc down to a slug. I had to leave immediately before I was tempted to mess up stuff though.

FM 07 looks good. And all I've done is loaded it up and went to preferences.

I downloaded it yesterday.

It same as 2006, and it so patethic that it has Baseball Manager and NHL Manager installations on CD.
I get bored to easily with this game... I can wait for FIFA Manager 07...

Sweet! I didn't realise it was 'gettable' yet. I'll have to get onto that soon.

Although it might be worth actually buying it, just to reward their efforts.

If only EA compiled a team like theirs...

Okay, I've had the game for 10 days. Played as Real Madrid for around 40 hours, up to 2007 offseason. I'd post my story later if anyone's interested. Not really a story but rather a quick recap and shit that i found interesting.

Anyways, the point of this post was to say this game is fucking awesome and I'm mildly addicted to it (accoring to FM)

Play it a bit. I love it but it is so time consuming, which sucks cause I don't have that kind of time at the moment.

Exams finish on monday, so hopefully I can rack up another couple of hours.

Stopped playing when I moved here. I need to study, so no games for me now. Besides, I don't know how to play in windowed mode :? .

I PLay it in windowed mode Drex, just go to Options - Preferences - Display & Sound - and untick the fullscreen box. It should change.

What a great game, started with my favourite team Universidad de Chile, got them a three-peat and won the "Copa Sudamericana", now I'm with Atlético de Madrid, in 2009!!!

Yeah, that what games are for. Making your dreams come true...Universidad de Chile actually winning something

I know, but it says that my system doesn't support the screen settings :?

Oh No Drex.... Don't tell me you're a "Zorra"... or worse... a "Monja"...

I had a good opinion of you...

Shame you cna't play in Windowed mode, it's actually made this game playable for me, so I can be on MSN, listen to music, play FM and study at the same time... It's so time-consuming that if it couldn't be played on Windowed mode I wouldn't probably play it.
