I liked Raph initially because of his weapon (sai). Now it's because of his kickassery.
I buy shoes that I think could stand the fury of a thousand suns!!! but it gets worn down fast anyway.
I always try to twist and bend the sole of the displayed shoe with my hands when choosing a pair to buy, at least not to be noticed by any sales person.
It's durability first for me, then comfort.
The oldest shoe I still have today is my black low cut suede Chucks, it still alive after 12 years. The All Star logo in the heel part of the sole have fallen off, the logo inside the sole that is seen below the shoe moved towards the instep and isn't visible anymore . Parts of the plastic in the edge of the shoelace have already cracked/disappeared, and the white color of the rubber parts have turned to light brown or that old look in rubber, but it is still comfortable to wear.
The only reason I don't wear it now is because the light gray laces gets smudged with dirt so easily and is noticeable when that happens, so it's aesthetics. It's a bitch cleaning sneakers.
The next one would be a 10 year old custom made brown nubuck strap on shoe. Its sole is made from recycled tires. I don't use it now because the metal part that is used to hold the strap on belt is now broken. The metal gave up even before the shoe did.
My favorite would have to be my slipon Nike ACG shoe that's colored black, with some gray streaks, and the sole colored yellow. It's light and comfortable but unfortunately not as durable. It has a wagging tongue now.
