I think it's safe to say the speculation won't be going anywhere until LeBron signs a new contract with the Cavs or one of the major players in the 2010 free agent bonanza, so we'll probably get sportswriters overanalysing every little thing that could possibly be twisted into being a sign that he's leaving Cleveland. Especially anything that could point to New York.

Lebron's Best Chance of winning a championship at this stage lies with the Cavaliers.

Seriously? A lot of users seem to agree with you but I don't get it. Not that they suck that bad but take LeBron out of the picture and what would be left? How many games would they win you think? Make it to the playoffs? I doubt it, maybe.

My point being that LeBron can make any decent team a contender (let's say .500).
A decent point guard, two big guys that can defend & rebound plus an outside shooter and you have your supporting cast.
Just imagine any mediocre - just didn't make it to the playoffs - team, add LeBron and assess how far they could go.
Especially works great for teams that are weak at the SF position.

I'd love to see him play in the Chicago line-up with Derrick Rose and a few young guys up front like the ones they have.
I have no idea if they can pay him but I think it would be a great fit and two young players you can build on with great competitive personalities. Seems to me they have a better 'supporting cast' if you will than Cleveland.

There are probably more teams like that, young fresh that could make a real shout if they had LeBron James.

Well, that's the thing. If LeBron stays with the Cavs, he's not going to be out of the picture. As it is they've got a team that has a shot, particularly with Shaq on board. I wouldn't carve it in stone, but they've got to be up there on the shortlist of legit contenders.

I can't speak for everyone else but when I said I think Cleveland currently offers him the best shot at winning a championship, I'm also comparing them to the teams that would actually be able to sign him and will be pursuing him the hardest next year. If they kept the current team together for another year or two, I think they'd at least remain in contention for those couple of seasons. If he was to go New York on the other hand, it would probably take at least two or three years to get to where the Cavaliers are at right now, because who knows what shape the Knicks' roster is going to be in as they try to amass expiring contracts for cap space in 2010.

I agree that Cleveland has a legitimate chance, particularly with Shaq but even without, but him and four other legitimate pro's would have a shot, that's the cruel truth.

It's about how much he sees himself that way. If he sees a team with a couple of players he really likes and he thinks he can win with and they can afford him than maybe he goes somewhere we least expect him to go.
Shaq could have a lasting impact on this. If they win next year he won't feel like they lost despite him, you know he must feel a little bit like that. With a ring under his belt he won't panick and maybe go for the sure winner but be loyal reassured by the fact that winning with the Cavs is possible.

I have no idea which teams are linked to him besides NY & Nets or have the cap space btw.

Bosh/draft pick (I think they need to get rid of Yi to offer two $17M contracts)

err... Anything could happen, but still... the chance looks pretty good for Cavaliers at the moment. If the expriment with Shaq fails, I think it can play a factor for Lebron to leave the city or at least used as a excuse to go sign somewhere else. Personally, I'd like to see him stay a Cav to see rare loyalty you see now days for the franchises. If not, I'd still respect his decision, but wouldn't like him as much, I think.

They should have enough cap space to be able to sign LeBron and another big name, but the rest of the roster could be quite thin and there wouldn't be much left over, with only a couple of players likely to have trade value (and those that do, they'd probably want to keep).

I'm convinced that Sean Williams can be on that list, somewhere. And now that it's pretty guaranteed the Nets are a bottom five team this year, I would absolutely be thrilled if they got Greg Monroe in next year's draft.
